Abstract

Sar-Cov2 infection is still occurring, although in some areas there has been a decrease in infection cases. This condition has become the basis for policy makers in Bengkulu Province to issue a circular letter so that schools can be carried out face-to-face. The condition of facing the adaptation of new habits that are currently being carried out really requires good knowledge and understanding of health protocols. In addition, preventive measures from cases of infection that occur, one of which can be pursued by increasing the body's immune system through meeting the needs of animal protein. The method applied to this Community Service Program (PKM) is through interactive counseling to SMAN 03 Bengkulu Tengah and distribution of dairy products to the academic community at SMAN 03 Bengkulu Tengah. The results of this PKM show that the socialization of adaptation to new habits can provide understanding to teachers and students at SMAN 3 Bengkulu Tengah so that they can implement clean and healthy living behaviors. In addition, the provision of dairy products can be the first step in efforts to meet the needs of animal protein that supports the body's immune system. Based on the analysis of this PKM activity, continuous implementation in increasing knowledge about adapting new habits and fulfilling balanced nutrition must continue to be carried out. This is carried out to prepare the community so that they can continue their activities in the new normal conditions.

Abstract

This research evaluated the effects of papaya leaf and turmeric extract supplementation on the total apparent digestibility of nutrients and methane gas production in Bali cattle. The livestock used were 18 Bali cattle that were distributed into treatment without papaya leaf and turmeric extract supplementation (P0),  Supplementation of 0.0075% turmeric extract g/kg live weight/day (P1), and supplementation of 0.00375% turmeric extract per kg live weight per day + 0.00375% papaya leaf extract per kg live weight per day (P2). The basal diets were 60% elephant grass cv. Taiwan (Pennisetum purpureum cv. Taiwan) and 40% concentrate. The ration provision was three per cent dry matter of body weight. The observed parameters included feed consumption, feces production, dry matter digestibility, organic matter digestibility, crude protein digestibility, crude fat digestibility, crude fibre digestibility, nitrogen-free extract digestibility, and methane gas production. The research results indicated that the treatment did not significantly affect feed consumption (P>0.05) but did affect crude protein digestibility, crude fibre digestibility, nitrogen-free extract digestibility, and methane gas production. This study concludes that the feeding of elephant grass cv. Taiwan (Pennisetum purpureum cv. Taiwan), with the addition of papaya leaf extract and turmeric extract, does not have a positive effect on feed consumption and feed digestibility; thus, it cannot suppress methane gas production in livestock.

Abstract

Genetic data of red junglefowl (Gallus gallus) from southern Sumatra is valuable for conservation efforts in Indonesia. A mitochondrial COI DNA gene sequencing was performed to elucidate its genetic character, single nucleotide polymorphism, genetic distance, and phylogeny. Blood samples (±0.5 ml) from 20 individuals of Gallus gallus were taken from the living collections of the people of Bengkulu Province (Central Bengkulu Regency and Seluma Regency) and South Sumatra Province (North Musi Rawas Regency) from May to November 2021. Total DNA isolation followed the procedure of The Spin-Column Protocol Kit uses the Dneasy® Blood and Tissue Kit, Qiagen. DNA replication using the Polymerase Chain Reaction technique with primers (COIGG_F and COIGG_R) using MEGA 10.0 software and Bioedit for data analysis. The results revealed716 conserved sites, 16 variable sites, 9 parsimony sites, and 6 singleton sites from the 732 bp nucleotide sequence. Six specific sites (SNPs) as barcodes for Sumatran Junglefowl were found at sequences 51, 273, 327, 721, 729, and 732. The mean genetic distance between individuals was 0.1%, between populations was 0.8%, between species was 7.4%, and between genera was 15.5%. The red junglefowlof South Sumatra Province and Bengkulu Province are closely related with 98% bootstrapping and separated from other Gallus in the same group (ingroup) with 100% bootstrap. The Gallus-gallus group is quite far apart from the outgroup species in the Phasianidae family with 47-100% bootstrap. Red junglefowl from southern Sumatra has genetic differences from other chickens in the world and these differences can be used as a species barcode and as origin identification the widely traded red jungle fowl.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the impact of giving 70% ethanol extract of Moringa leaves as a feed additive in drinking water on growth performance and percentage of internal organs in broilers. The design applied was a completely randomized design (CRD) with four treatments and five replicates, where each replicate consisted of eight broilers. The treatments given varied in the levels of moringa leaf extract in drinking water, namely: P0 (drinking water without moringa leaf extract), P1 (0.45 g moringa leaf extract in 1 liter of drinking water), P2 (0.9 g moringa leaf extract in 1 liter of drinking water), and P3 (1.35 g moringa leaf extract in 1 liter of drinking water). The observed variables included ration consumption, body weight gain, final weight, ration conversion, as well as the percentage and weight of internal organs such as liver, heart, intestine, and cecum length and percentage. The results showed that the provision of moringa leaf extract at various doses had no significant effect (P > 0.05) on ration consumption, body weight gain, final weight, ration conversion, percentage and weight of liver, heart weight, intestinal weight, intestinal length, or percentage and length of broiler cecum. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the provision of Moringa leaf extract in drinking water at doses of 0.45 g to 1.35 g does not have a significant impact on the performance of growth and internal organs of broilers.
