Abstract

Diffraction is one of the properties of light in the form of a bending event in the direction of the propagation of the waves through a narrow gap. Research on natural materials as an alternative to grating has been carried out with varying results. Natural ingredients in the form of scallion stems (Allium fistulosum) and banana heart (Musa paradisiaca) were chosen as the diffraction lattice preparations because they have fibers that resemble scratches on the diffraction grating produced by factories. Special care is given to each preparation to obtain the fiber. By using Tracker and analysis of the level of accuracy, the results obtained value m, and an accuracy of 95.81% for the diffraction grating of scallion stems, and the value of d = and accuracy of 90.01%. The results of this study indicate that scallion stalks and banana blossoms have potential and can be used as diffraction grating to explain light diffraction phenomena.

Abstract

AbstractThe amount of sunscreen ability is determined through the value of a person's Sun Protection Factor (SPF) when under the sun without experiencing sunburn. This study aims to measure the intensity of sunlight received by batik textile fabrics and SPF measurements to determine the ability of these fabrics to protect sunlight radiation. The research was conducted at the Sorogenen area in Pekalongan City. Intensity data collection is done during sunny weather with temperatures of 300C - 320C from 10.00 to 14.00 WIB. The SPF value can be calculated by comparing the intensity of sunlight without a protective batik cloth with the intensity of sunlight with a protective cloth. The intensity of the average in the range of 10:00 to 14:00 WIB is 85.160 lux to 113.400 lux.  The  results obtained by fabric with a thickness of  2 mm have a SPF greater than fabric with a thickness of 1 mm. Cotton fabric has the ability to protect against sunlight better than satin and mori cloth. The largest SPF value is owned by a blue cotton cloth with a thickness of 2 mm of 36,06. While the smallest SPF value is owned by yellow cloth with a thickness of 1 mm of 5,24.

Abstract

CuInAlSe2 (CIAS) thin films were prepared using pulsed laser deposition (PLD) and selenization. The PLD process utilized a certain kind of stacking order to deposit elemental films on glass substrates, layer by layer, for precursor preparation. They were designed to be Al- and Cu-deficient and selenized using two different heat treatment steps. According to its precursor compositional ratio, stacking order, and heat treatment, each CIAS film showed different properties and a critical condition. The crystalline phases, compositional ratio, morphology, and optical-electrical properties of the CIAS films are discussed here.

Abstract

Temperature measurement is important in various applications; therefore, various temperature sensors have been developed. Due to its advantages, many optical fiber-based temperature sensors have been proposed. The wavelength modulation-based optical sensor is interesting due to high accuracy. However, the complex fabrication process and high cost limit the advantages of the sensors. Therefore, we proposed a simple and low-cost Mach Zehnder interferometer (MZI) sensor using step-index plastic optical fiber (SI-POF). Performance characterization of the sensor to temperature variation is presented. The sensor consists of two tapers at several distances, forming an interferometer. The first taper was designed to be steep to allow excitation of cladding modes, while the second taper was gradual to suppress power loss. Characterizations were done in terms of sensitivity, hysteresis, and repeatability by analyzing the output spectrums recorded by the spectrometer at various environment temperatures, 35oC to 85oC, with an increment of 10oC. The results showed that the sensor has a sensitivity of 0.0431 nm/oC and a correlation coefficient of 0.9965. Hysteresis of 6.9×10-3 was observed. In terms of repeatability, the sensor shows a maximum deviation, ±3oC, which was mainly resulted from the fluctuation of the oven temperature. Despite its high deviation, the sensor has advantages of simple fabrication, low cost, robust, and low power loss, which make it a good candidate for temperature sensors.
