Abstract

Introduction: Diabetes Mellitus is a disease that occurs because the body is unable to produce insulin or the body cannot use insulin effectively. The purpose of this study was to find out the effect of Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR) on stress and blood glucose decrease in patients who have diabetes mellitus type 2 disease.Method: The design of this study is quasi-experimental study. The population of this study were the patients who have type 2 of diabetes mellitus disease at Puskesmas Kedungdoro and Puskesmas Medokan Ayu. There would be 70 respondents chosen based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. The researcher chose the purpose sampling technique in choosing the participants in this research. The independent variable in this study was Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR). The dependent variable in this study were stress and blood glucose decrease. The data in this study were collected using questionnaires and measurement of pre-prandial blood glucose level. Data were analyzed using analysis of Wilcoxon and paired t-test for pre-post measurements, then for the inter groups the researcher used Mann-Whitney analysis. Results: The results showed that there was an effect of PMR on stress (p = 0.001) and in decreasing blood glucose (p = 0.021).Discussion: PMR is a relaxation focused on the patient’s attention in distinguishing the group of muscle when they relaxed than while in contraction condition. Thus, the patients are expected to be able to manage the body condition in managing stress and blood sugar decrease. For health officers, they are expected to use the PMR as the combination in reducing stress and blood glucose to improve the quality of life of the patients who have diabetes type 2 disease.

Abstract

Introduction: Diabetes resilience is a condition where people with diabetes can accept their incurable disease as well. It is characterized by regular blood sugar, a diet-controlled, active, and not stressful. However, various kinds of feelings must be passed to become diabetes resilience. The study aimed to know what adult type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) felt before becoming resilient. Methods: A qualitative phenomenology design was conducted to observe the experience of adult T2DM before becoming resilient. The total participants were ten T2DM patients obtained through snowball sampling. The data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews with interview guidelines and analyzed using qualitative thematic analysis. Results: The results of the study found two major themes namely psychological response and diet. Participants felt quite severe stress when diagnosed with diabetes mellitus and felt difficulty when undergoing diabetes mellitus treatment. In addition, changes in diet are also felt very difficult by participants in undergoing a diabetes mellitus diet. Conclusions: Psychological responses and diet are the hard parts felt by the participants. Increasing understanding, support, and acceptance can be one strategy to increase diabetes resilience in participants.

Abstract

Introduction: Treatment that must continue, control, and diet that must be obeyed by people with DM can cause boredom (burnout) - inability to care for themselves, and blood sugar that is not controlled. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of diabetes resilience training on self-care, glycemic control, and diabetes burnout of adult type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods: This study was a quasi-experimental design. The total samples were 70 respondents (treatment and control) obtained by cluster sampling. The independent variable was diabetes resilience training and dependent variables were self-care, glycemic control, and diabetes burnout. The intervention provided for one month with four meetings. Instrument used self-care questionnaire of Self-Care Inventory-Revised (SCI-R), glycemic control questionnaire used an observation sheet for fasting blood sugar, and diabetes burnout questionnaire used Diabetes Distress-Screening Scale (DDS17). Data were analyzed with Wilcoxon signed ranks test, Mann Whitney U Test, Independent-sample t-test, and 1-Sample K-S. Results: There was an effect of diabetes resilience training on self-care (p = 0.003; p <0.05), glycemic control (p = 0.020; p <0.05), and diabetes burnout (p = 0,000; p <0.05). Conclusions: Diabetes resilience training provided by researchers to respondents can improve good self-care behavior, decreased glycemic control values, and decreased distress (diabetes burnout) in adult type 2 diabetes mellitus.  Based on the results, it is recomandation to nurses and health care provider to implementation the diabetes resilience training regularly.

Abstract

Introduction: Nurses who work full time require religious support in patient care and professional documentation tools. The purpose of this research was to test a model development of patients’ satisfaction through nurse performance with an empirical study on innovation in nursing services and shariah ethics. Methods: A quantitative design was used with a cross-sectional approach. The samples were 420 postoperative patients. Respondents were obtained through multistage sampling. The independent variables were innovation service with Electronic Nursing Documentation and shariah-based ethics. Nurse performance was the mediating variable and the dependent variable was patient satisfaction. Data collection was performed using a questionnaire and data analysis with SEM version 22. Results: The results of this study indicated there was use of standard operating procedures in patient care about shariah-based ethics, which can improve the quality of nursing services where nurses can document the patient's nursing process comprehensively using Electronic Nursing Documentation (END). All the variables tested in the model development, namely service innovation, shariah ethics, and nurse performance, affects patient satisfaction. SEM test results obtained GFI (Goodness of Fit Index) values which should be within the expected cut-off value range (p Value ≤ 0.05). Conclusion: The use of SOPs on shariah ethics with END is interrelated between service innovation, shariah ethics and nurse performance and affects patient satisfaction. It is expected that nurses will be able to provide shariah ethics-based services and documentation to improve patient satisfaction.
