Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to explore the use of an AI-based platform, Perplexity, in the Basic and Concept of Citizenship course, viewed from the perspective of digital citizenship. As AI technology continues to advance, teaching approaches in the context of citizenship need to be adapted to be more relevant to the dynamics of the digital society today. The research method used is a qualitative approach with interviews and observations conducted with several lecturers and students who have used the Perplexity platform in citizenship education. This study aims to evaluate the impact of AI platform use on students' understanding of citizenship and how this can support the development of critical and participatory digital citizenship. Two main findings from this study are: first, the use of Perplexity allows students to access information faster and more accurately related to citizenship topics, but challenges arise regarding students' ability to filter and analyze the information provided by the platform. Second, while this platform supports students' digital engagement, there is a tendency for students to rely more on instant answers without deeper reflection, which could affect the depth of their understanding of digital citizenship. This study suggests the importance of integrating digital literacy training into the use of AI technology in citizenship education to support the development of a more critical and responsible citizenship

Abstract

Pancasila, as the foundation of the state and the nation's philosophy of life, plays an important role in shaping the younger generation's personalities to be tolerant and civilized. Nevertheless, globalization and the dissemination of digital information can foster intolerance and erode students' national values. This study aims to evaluate how Pancasila values are implemented among students through a socialization program promoting social harmony, organized by the Forum Kerukunan Umat Beragama (FKUB) of Semarang City, and to examine its role in fostering religious moderation and student character. This research uses a qualitative approach, including in-depth interviews with FKUB administrators, school officials, and students involved in outreach activities. Data analysis techniques include data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that the FKUB socialization program is able to implement Pancasila values contextually and practically through dialogue, discussion, and interfaith interaction. This program fosters tolerance, mutual respect, and awareness of the importance of harmony in students' social lives. Despite several obstacles, the synergy among FKUB, schools, and local governments was a major factor in the program's sustainability. This study concludes that FKUB's socialization of harmony is an effective strategy for strengthening Pancasila values among students.

Data were obtained from the Scopus database, where 522 documents were identified, limited to English-language journal articles published between 2016 and 2026. Bibliometric analysis was conducted using VOSviewer to identify publication trends, author contributions, affiliations, countries, and keyword co-occurrence patterns. The findings indicate a significant increase in publications on character education, with character education and civic education emerging as strongly interconnected central themes. The thematic mapping reveals several major clusters, including virtue ethics and moral values approaches, democratic civic education, curriculum and learners, methodological approaches based on human experiences, as well as pedagogical innovations such as project-based learning, empathy, and digital literacy. These findings indicate a shift in character education research from a normative approach toward a more integrative, contextual, and practice-oriented perspective. This study contributes theoretically by clarifying the intellectual landscape of character education research and this study supports policies promoting integrated character–civic curricula, whole-school approaches, innovative pedagogy, teacher professional development, and holistic assessment aligned with 21st-century educational challenges.
