Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of the Show and Tell method in improving the Maharah Kalam skills of grade X students of MAN 2 Bandar Lampung. Using Classroom Action Research (PTK) and a mixed method approach (70% quantitative, 30% qualitative), this study collected quantitative data through oral tests of Maharah Kalam at the pre-action stage until cycle 2 to measure the numerical improvement of students' speaking ability. Qualitative data, obtained through observation and descriptive questionnaires, was used to understand more deeply the perceptions and reasons behind students' interest in learning. The results showed significant improvement in Maharah Kalam proficiency, as evidenced by the increase in the average score of the oral test from pre-action to cycle 2. The qualitative data provided context that reinforced these quantitative findings, explaining how Show and Tell impacted on students' motivation, confidence and interaction in learning Maharah Kalam. This study concludes that Show and Tell is an effective learning alternative to improve students' Arabic speaking skills.

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji penerapan metode muhadharah dalam mengembangkan keterampilan berbicara bahasa Arab (mahārah al-kalām) santri di Pesantren PTQA Umniyati Bandar Lampung, sebuah lembaga pendidikan Islam nonformal yang memadukan tahfizh dan pembelajaran bahasa Arab. Permasalahan yang diangkat dalam penelitian ini adalah bahwa penelitian-penelitian sebelumnya umumnya berfokus pada capaian muhadharah, seperti kepercayaan diri dan kelancaran, tanpa memberikan deskripsi rinci tentang pelaksanaannya sehari-hari, faktor pendukung dan penghambat, atau respons psikologis santri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan struktur dan proses muhadharah, mengidentifikasi faktor-faktor yang memengaruhi efektivitasnya, dan mengeksplorasi persepsi santri terhadap kegiatan tersebut. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif, data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara semi-terstruktur, observasi langsung, dan dokumentasi yang melibatkan satu instruktur dan tiga santri putri yang dipilih secara purposive sampling. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa muhadharah dilakukan secara sistematis melalui pembukaan, resitasi, penyampaian pidato, istinbāṭ, umpan balik, dan penutup, dan secara signifikan berkontribusi terhadap perkembangan linguistik, psikologis, dan retorika santri. Faktor pendukung meliputi bimbingan aktif dari instruktur, fasilitas yang memadai, dan lingkungan berbahasa Arab, sementara faktor penghambat meliputi keterbatasan kosakata, rasa gugup, keterbatasan waktu, dan ketidakkonsistenan kehadiran. Para santri merespons secara positif, menunjukkan antusiasme, rasa senang, dan motivasi yang meningkat untuk berbicara bahasa Arab. Hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa muhadharah berfungsi sebagai strategi pembelajaran performatif yang efektif untuk memperkuat kemampuan berbicara santri dan menumbuhkan rasa percaya diri di lingkungan pesantren.

Abstract

This study aims to compare the Arabic writing skill (maharah kitabah) using the imla’ method between students from MTs and SMP backgrounds in grade XI A1 of MAN 2 Bandar Lampung. This quantitative comparative research involved 28 students selected through purposive sampling, consisting of 14 MTs alumni and 14 SMP alumni. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and a written imla’ test. The results of the Shapiro–Wilk test show that the data from both groups are normally distributed, and the Independent Sample t-Test revealed that the average score of SMP alumni was higher than that of MTs alumni; however, the difference was not statistically significant (p = 0.207 > 0.05). These findings indicate that prior educational background does not significantly influence students’ Arabic writing ability at the MA level. The learning process at MAN 2 Bandar Lampung appears to equalize students' abilities regardless of their previous schooling, suggesting that teaching strategies should focus on strengthening writing skills across groups.
