Abstract

This article reports on ossifying fibroma (OF) which was established based on panoramic radiographic, CBCT and histopathological examination and treatment performed on a 31 years old male patient. The diagnosis is made by comparing with existing theories in the literature. Case Report: A 31 years old man was referred to the Oral Surgery Department of Al Ihsan Hospital. The patient complained of swelling in the lower left jaw. On palpation it feels hard and cannot be moved. Panoramic radiograph examination showed loss of teeth 34-35 and a radiolucent lesion mixed with radiopaque in the left mandible which resulted in a shift in the position of teeth 36 and 37 more superiorly. The CBCT examination performed revealed a mixed radiolucent and radiopaque lesion of teeth 33-38. Histopathological examination also showed the presence of cellular fibrous with a mineralized component. The patient has been treated in the form of excision of the lesion. Conclusion: CBCT can be used as a reliable supporting examination in helping to diagnose cases of benign neoplasms involving hard bone tissue such as ossifying fibroma. OF has distinctive features on radiographs, one of which is the presence of mixed radiolucent and radiopaque lesions with wispy septa which result in resorption and displacement of the teeth involved. The accuracy of the diagnosis of OF can be enforced by a combination of clinical, radiographic and HPA examinations, so that the treatment given to patients is according to the procedure.

Abstract

Lebar saluran nafas faring dapat dipengaruhi pola skeletal wajah dan posisi tulang hyoid. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis perbedaan lebar saluran nafas faring atas, bawah, dan posisi tulang hyoid antara pasien maloklusi skeletal kelas I dan kelas II ditinjau menggunakan radiograf sefalometri. Penelitian ini berupa deskriptif analitik yang menggunakan arsip data sekunder radiograf sefalometri pasien di Instalasi Radiologi Kedokteran Gigi RSGM UNPAD. Sampel penelitian ditentukan dengan metode purposive sampling dengan jumlah 44 arsip radiograf sefalometri. Rata- rata lebar saluran nafas faring atas pasien maloklusi skeletal kelas I 14,814,08 mm dan kelas II 12,273,16 mm dengan nilai P 0,0026 (P 0,05). Rata-rata lebar saluran nafas faring bawah pasien maloklusi skeletal kelas I 11,662,57 mm dan kelas II 10,621,77 mm dengan nilai P 0,202 (P0,05). Posisi tulang hyoid kelas I dan kelas II menunjukkan hasil yang sama, 7 posisi segitiga positif dan 15 segitiga negatif dengan nilai P 1,000 (P0,05). Terdapat perbedaan signifikan lebar saluran nafas faring atas antara pasien maloklusi skeletal kelas I dan kelas II ditinjau menggunakan radiograf sefalometri. Tidak ditemukan perbedaan signifikan lebar saluran nafas faring bawah dan posisi tulang hyoid.

Abstract

Abstrak. Estimasi Usia Manusia Pawon melalui Identifikasi Gigi dengan Metode Johanson pada Radiograf CBCT 3D. Manusia Pawon merupakan manusia prasejarah yang ditemukan di Gua Pawon. Di dalamnya, terdapat sisa tulang yang telah rapuh dan gigi yang masih tertanam pada tulang alveolar meskipun telah tertimbun tanah ribuan tahun lamanya. Gigi tersebut kemudian dijadikan sebagai alat identifikasi primer dalam penelitian forensik odontologi. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui estimasi usia Manusia Pawon melalui identifikasi gigi menggunakan metode Johanson pada radiograf CBCT 3D. Jenis penelitian yang dilakukan adalah deskriptif. Pengambilan sampel menggunakan purposive sampling. Sampel sebanyak 21 gigi yang tertanam pada tulang alveolar dan tidak terdapat pada garis fraktur. Pengukuran estimasi usia dengan metode Johanson dilakukan dengan perangkat lunak Ez-Implant menggunakan teknik non-invasif CBCT 3D. Hasil penelitian pada Rangka I (R.I) menghasilkan estimasi usia dengan kisaran antara 32,00-33,92 tahun, Rangka III (R.III) dengan estimasi usia 32,94-36,28 tahun, Rangka IV (R.IV) dengan estimasi usia 34,42 tahun, dan Rangka V (R.V) dengan estimasi usia 27,36-31,35 tahun. Simpulan penelitian menunjukkan estimasi usia Manusia Pawon dengan metode Johanson pada radiograf CBCT 3D berkisar antara 27,36-36,28 tahun. Kata Kunci: Manusia Pawon, Estimasi usia, Metode Johanson, Radiografi CBCT 3D, Perangkat lunak ez-implant   Abstract. Pawon men are prehistoric humans who lived in Pawon cave. The skeletons found in the cave consist of remains of brittle bones and teeth which are still attached to alveolar bone even though it had been buried in soil since thousands of years ago. The teeth are then used as primary identification in forensic odontology research. This research’s aim is to compare the existing age estimation of Pawon men with more recent method, namely Johanson method through CBCT 3D Radiograph. Previously, the age estimation was only based on visual observation of posterior molars’ attrition by Brothwell method. This research is a descriptive study using purposive sampling. The samples are 21 teeth that are intact and attached to the alveolar bone without any fracture line. The age estimation with Johanson method using Ez-Implant software is non-invasive age measurement by Cone Beam Computed Tomography 3D radiograph. The results showed that the age of the first Pawon man is 32-33.92 years old, the third Pawon man is 32.935-36.275 years old, the fourth Pawon man is 34.42 years old, and the fifth Pawon man is 27.36-31.35 years old. The second Pawon man is not included in sampling criteria. The measurement using Johanson method through CBCT 3D is more specific and detailed in yielding the age estimation compared to the Brothwell method. Abstract

Objectives: The aim of this case report is to describe radiographically the specific features of maxillary sinusitis on CBCT radiograph. Case Report: A 20-year-old female patient came to RSGM UNPAD with a consul letter from Oral Surgery specialist for a CBCT radiography examination to see impacted teeth. The results showed radiointermediate images in the maxillary sinus which showed thickening of the sinus mucosa and an inverted impacted teeth on the right maxillary. Conclusion: Maxillary sinusitis could be assessed using extra oral radiography and CBCT. CBCT examination was used in determining the source of the lesion, the extent of the lesion, and the thickness of the maxillary sinus mucosa.

Abstract

Objectives: The purpose of this case study is to report the postoperative evaluation of a case of Mucoepidermoid Carcinoma occurring in the maxilla using CBCT. Case Report: A 44-year-old woman came to the Dental Radiology Installation of the Padjadjaran University Dental and Oral Hospital with complaints of swelling in the right maxillary region since 1 year ago accompanied by pain and could not open her mouth. The patient brought a referral letter for CBCT photos with a clinical diagnosis of Maxillary Tumour Dextra Post Biopsy Excision in the Maxillary Dextra region with HPA Mucoepidermoid Carcinoma a.r Maxillary Dextra. CBCT results showed tooth loss in areas 16, 17, and 18 accompanied by trabeculae loss at the posterior alveolar process support and partial bone thinning at the maxillary tuberosity. The loss of some hard tissue was likely part of the tissue taken for biopsy. The average density in these areas was ± 49 HU. Conclusion: Lesions can be analysed using qualitative and quantitative methods with 3D CBCT.

Abstract

Objectives: In a previous case study, we reported an incidental finding of florid osseous dysplasia with osteomyelitis, which was identified on panoramic and CBCT imaging. Case Report: A 53-year-old female patient came to the Radiology Department of Dental Hospital Padjadjaran Bandung with the chief complaint of recurrent pain one year ago; there was swelling from the cheek to the left mandible; the swelling reappeared one week ago with clinical pus mixed with blood in the swelling area. The patient had previously seen an oral surgeon and was referred for panoramic and CBCT radiographs. The results of the panoramic radiographs were that there was an irregular radiopaque lesion with ill-defined borders in the posterior region affecting 4 quadrants; in the sinister mandibular region, there was cortical destruction, root resorption, and the lesion appeared to extend to the canalis mandibular area. The CBCT examination showed multiple globular radiopaque lesions affecting 4 quadrants in the posterior area. There were sequestra with lytic lesions on the sinistra mandible resulting in buccal and lingual cortical bone discontinuity and buccal-lingual expansion. Expansion of the lesion area resulted in discontinuity of the canals mandibular sinistra and decreased bone density of the trabeculae up to the mandibular ramus; there was apical resorption trabecula bone density. From the Panoramic examination and CBCT results, the suspect radiodiagnosis was Florid osseous dysplasia associated with osteomyelitis. Conclusion: An examination of panoramic and CBCT images revealed FOD that had been secondarily infected with chronic diffuse osteomyelitis.

Abstract

Objectives: This case report aimed to describe radiographic features of suspect multiple odontomas in an incidental case. Case Report: A 32-year-old man non syndromic patient was referred to the Dental Radiology Unit of RSGM Unpad for panoramic examination. He was complaining about a pain in lower mandible and was clinically diagnosed with an impacted 48. Radiographic findings appeared irregular radiopaque with radiodensity that resembles enamel and dentin, surrounded by a thin radiolucent capsule in the left and right regions body of the mandible. Additionally, there is radiopaque that resembles a para premolar supernumerary tooth, inferior from the lesion to the mandibular cortical bone. Conclusion: In this case, irregular radiopaque areas with radiodensity that resembles enamel and dentin, surrounded by thin radiolucent capsules, were found as the radiographic features that led the radiodiagnosis of odontomas.

Abstract

Objectives: Cleft lip and palate (CLP) are one of the most common types of congenital maxillofacial lesions. Cleft lip and palate patients often deal withspeech, masticatory and hearing problems, dental and craniofacial anomalies, and psychosocial issue. The aim of this study is to determine the role of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) in diagnosing CLP. Case Report: A 25-year-old female was referred to dentomaxilllofacial radiology department in Universitas Padjadjaran Dental Hospital for a CBCT examination of a cleft palate. Three-dimensional image analysis provides superior and more detailed information compared with conventional plain two-dimensional (2D) radiography, with the added benefit of 3D printing for preoperative treatment planning and regenerative therapy. The result showed a radiolucent area between teeth 21 and 23, agenese teeth 22. These findings led to cleft palate unilateral complete at sinistra region. CBCT imaging provides a detailed picture of the cleft in three dimensions view that can helps for determining the treatment plan based on the classification of cleft lip and palate. Conclusion: Available evidence implies that 3D imaging methods not only can be used for documentation of CLP patients, but also can determining the treatment plan. 3D CBCT radiograph are more informative than conventional 2D.

Abstract

Objectives: Odontogenic cysts are pathologic cavities filled with fluid originating from the odontogenic epithelium remnants forming teeth. Dentigerous and calcifying odontogenic cysts are examples of cysts that form during development. Based on how they form, they are one type of odontogenic cyst. Many lesions have similar characteristics, making it challenging to differentiate them. Case Report: An oral surgeon referred a 19-year-old male patient for a CBCT radiographic examination of the maxilla, which revealed a dentigerous cyst in the patient's clinical report. The patient's overall health was delicate. An intraoral examination revealed no edema, symmetrical, painless facial structure, and no clinical signs of periodontal disease nor dental caries. A panoramic radiograph showed a multilocular, well-defined, and corticated radiolucent lesion that made teeth 11–12 and 21–23 shifted. Conclusion: Clinical and imaging variables play essential roles in the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of odontogenic cysts. CBCT radiography could be a suitable modality for diagnosing odontogenic cysts, although histopathology is the gold standard for a definitive diagnosis.

Abstract

Introduction: Abnormalities of the dental pulp can have several different diagnoses. Therefore, the dental pulp characteristics must be known in more detail and clear so that diagnosis be established more precisely and accurately.  One characteristic of the pulp can be seen from the density value through the 3D Cone Beam Computed Tomography (3D CBCT). Methods: The study  was  conducted  with  a  simple  descriptive  method.  The population is all the data 3D CBCT of patients who visited the Universitas Padjadjaran Dental Hospital (RSGM Unpad) in 2012. Samples of the research were 75 pulps  with normal, inflammation, and necrosis conditions and calculate the average density value. Results: Density values for dental pulps in the normal teeth between 465 - 775 HU, the inflammation teeth between 243.5 - 396 HU, and necrosis teeth between - 461.5 - -170 HU. Conclusion: There are differences in dental pulp density between the normal pulp, inflammation and necrosis through 3D CBCT.
