Abstract

Squid is one of the non-fish resources that have economic value and is a target species in demersal fisheries activities with squid fishing gear and stick-held deep net. This research aims to determine the biological aspects of squid (Loligo edulis) such as length frequency distribution, length-weight relationship, sex ratio, gonadal maturity level, gonadal maturity index, size at first caught, and size at first maturity of the gonads. The method used in this research was a descriptive survey. The sample collection method used systematic random sampling and purposive sampling techniques. This observation was carried out on March 7 to July 30, 2022, at the Belawan Ocean Fishing Port and Tanjung Balai Port. The results showed that the average length distribution of squid was 17.73 cm. The relationship between the length and weight of squid is negative allometric. The sex ratio is 1:1.05. The negative allometric growth pattern is dominated by Gonadal Maturity Level (GML) I and GML II. The highest GML value for male squid was 2.06% at GML III, and the highest GML value for female squid was 1.92% at GML III. The average size of the caught squid length (Lc) is 10.42 cm. Abstract

University life is a demanding transitional period in which academic workload, social change, and financial pressure often disrupt students’ sleep and daily health habits, with direct implications for learning and academic outcomes. This research examines how sleep quality and lifestyle habits affect the academic success of undergraduate students in industrial engineering, using a human factors and ergonomics framework. Utilizing the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) alongside the health-Promoting Lifestyle Profile II (HPLP-II), data from 293 students were paired with institutional cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) records. The results indicate that 58% of the participants suffered from poor sleep quality (PSQI > 5). A significant negative correlation was observed between PSQI metrics and cumulative GPA (r=−0.312, p<0.01). Conversely, stress management (r=0.267, p<0.01) and health responsibility (r=0.231, p<0.01) positively correlated with GPA. Overall, sleep quality and lifestyle behaviors explained 29.6% of the GPA variance (adjusted R2 =0.296, p<0.001), with all predictors meeting multicollinearity thresholds (VIF < 3.0). No significant gender disparities were observed for sleep quality (p = 0.339) or GPA (p = 0.066), although males scored higher in overall lifestyle habits (p = 0.008). These findings demonstrate that lifestyle and sleep are critical determinants of the performance of industrial engineering students, suggesting that universities should deploy data-driven strategies, including schedule revisions and wellness initiatives, prior to longitudinal causal validation.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the zero waste counseling program in improving public health within urban families, specifically in the context of the Kang Pisman program (Reduce, Separate, and Utilize). The research was motivated by the increasing household waste problem in urban areas, which directly impacts community health. A mixed methods approach was employed using an explanatory sequential design. Quantitative data were first collected from 40 respondents through  questionnaires,  followed  by  qualitative  data  through  interviews  and  observations  to strengthen the findings. The results indicate that the zero waste counseling program significantly improves public health, as shown by a correlation value of 0.7494 with a contribution of 59.6%. The program encouraged changes in knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors related to waste management, such  as waste separation, reducing  single-use plastics, and  reusing both organic and inorganic materials. However, several challenges remain, including limited supporting facilities, low participation among some residents, and persistent old habits. Overall, the study concludes that zero waste counseling is effective in fostering awareness and healthy living practices in urban families and has great potential as a sustainable strategy to enhance community health quality.
