Abstract

This research aims to describe students' learning styles and teachers' teaching methods at SMA Negeri 1 Hiliran Gumanti. The background of this research is based on the importance of understanding students' learning styles in supporting the effectiveness of the learning process. The research used a descriptive quantitative approach with a questionnaire instrument filled out by 50 students in grades X and XI. The results showed that auditory learning style is the most dominant learning style, both in class X (24%) and class XI (25%), followed by visual and kinesthetic learning styles. However, the teacher's teaching method still tends to be lecture-based and has not accommodated variations in students' learning styles. This finding indicates the need for the application of varied, multimodal and differentiated learning models to improve student engagement and learning outcomes. Recommendations are addressed to teachers to adjust teaching strategies based on students' learning style tendencies in accordance with the principles of Merdeka Curriculum.

Abstract

Differentiated learning in geography education requires innovative digital resources that cater to diverse student learning styles. This study aimed to design, validate, and evaluate the effectiveness of a digital teaching module that supports differentiated instruction based on visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning preferences for Phase E students at SMAN 2 Sungai Apit. This research employed a Research and Development (RD) approach using the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The product was validated by three experts (subject matter, media, and instructional design), tested for practicality through small and large group trials, and evaluated for effectiveness through pretest-posttest experimental design involving 63 students divided into experimental and control groups. Validation results showed the module was highly valid, with expert ratings of 91.5% (content), 90.15% (media), and 83.25% (instructional design). Practicality scores from student trials reached 81.35% (small group) and 83.21% (limited group), both classified as "very practical." The module's effectiveness was confirmed through a significant difference in posttest scores between the experimental group (M = 80.21) and the control group (M = 73.03), with p 0.001. The average N-Gain score for the experimental group was 66.45%, indicating moderate improvement. These findings suggest that the developed digital teaching module is a valid, practical, and effective tool to enhance differentiated learning in geography. Its structure supports personalized learning experiences and can serve as a scalable model for other contexts.

Abstract

This study explores social science teaching strategies implemented under the Merdeka Curriculum at Madrasah Tsanawiyah. The Merdeka Curriculum grants schools autonomy in designing educational approaches to meet specific student needs while aligning with overarching objectives. A qualitative case study approach was employed, incorporating interviews, observations, and document analysis to examine the strategies used by social science teachers at Madrasah Tsanawiyah. The research focused on understanding how educators navigate the curriculum's flexibility and address challenges. The findings reveal that teachers adopt diverse strategies tailored to their students’ needs, emphasizing creativity and engagement despite limited resources and time constraints. These strategies demonstrate educators' commitment to maximizing the potential of the Merdeka Curriculum while overcoming implementation barriers. The study provides valuable insights into the practical application of the Merdeka Curriculum in social science education, particularly in resource-limited contexts. It highlights the importance of teacher adaptability and innovation in achieving curricular goals. These findings have implications for curriculum development, professional growth initiatives, and the broader improvement of social science education. This research contributes to the understanding of curriculum autonomy by illustrating its implementation challenges and opportunities within Madrasah Tsanawiyah. Future studies could explore specific teaching strategies in greater depth, evaluate the curriculum's impact on student outcomes, and identify global parallels to enhance the effectiveness of autonomous educational models in diverse contexts.

Abstract

This study examines the contribution of Francis Bacon's epistemological thinking to the development of modern science and its relevance to the foundation of social science, especially in Social Studies education. The main issue of this research departs from the scientific paradigm shift from the speculative scholastic tradition to a scientific approach based on observation and empirical experience. By using qualitative methods through literature study and historical-philosophical analysis, this research traces how Bacon's inductive method shapes a scientific mindset that is rational, objective, and systematic. The results show that Bacon's principle of empiricism is not only the basis for natural sciences, but also provides a methodological framework for modern social studies. His concept of idola mentis emphasizes the importance of freeing the mind from bias and prejudice in the process of acquiring scientific knowledge. Bacon's thinking is also relevant in the context of modern education through the application of inquiry-based and experiential learning models that encourage students' critical and reflective thinking skills. Although this research is conceptual in nature, the results open new directions for empirical studies that examine the application of Bacon's principles of empiricism in contemporary social research and pedagogy. Thus, Bacon's intellectual legacy affirms the importance of balance between rationality, empirical experience, and moral responsibility in building the progress of science and civilization.

Abstract

This study analyzes the Problem-Based Learning model in Sociology Learning through an educational philosophy approach covering ontological, epistemological, and axiological dimensions. Through the literature study method, this study aims to analyze how the PBL model reflects the ontological dimension in sociology learning, knowledge is constructed epistemologically through PBL, and axiological values that emerge from the application of PBL. The results of the literature study show that ontologically, PBL reflects real and contextual social reality as a source of problems to be analyzed. Epistemologically, PBL emphasizes the construction of knowledge through the process of scientific inquiry, orientation of students to problems, organizing students for learning, guiding students in individual and group investigations, improving and presenting the results of student work, and analyzing and evaluating the problem-solving process. Meanwhile, axiologically, PBL instills the values of creativity, critical thinking, independent learning, motivation, responsibility for learning, collaboration, and group cooperation. Thus, the application of the PBL model in sociology learning has a strong relationship between the dimensions of ontology, epistemology, and axiology. The limitation of this study is the lack of direct empirical validation. Therefore, further research is recommended to test the implementation of PBL through classroom action research or experiments to obtain concrete evidence regarding its effectiveness.

Abstract

The Limas House at the Balaputra Dewa Museum is a cultural heritage site that must be preserved. The Limas House has been a typical Palembang traditional house since 1930. The first owner of the Limas House was Syarif Abdurachman Alhabsi, who later purchased it from the Palembang City Government. This Limas House is divided into two parts facing opposite directions. The owner of the rear house is Syarif Ali. The characteristic of the four-story Limas House building is called Bengkilas. At major events, seating positions depend on family status. In 1995, Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands visited the Balaputra Dewa Museum. The Limas House was legalized as an icon on the 2005 Rp. 10,000 banknote, along with an image of the South Sumatran hero, Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II. Since the 2005 Rp. 10,000 banknote was issued, the number of national tourists visiting Palembang and the Balaputra Dewa Museum has increased. Students and schools in Palembang have involved the Balaputra Dewa Museum in learning about Local Wisdom and contributing to school activities. Each structure in the Balaputra Dewa Museum holds meaning and value for the people of Palembang. This research aims to raise awareness among the people of Palembang and the younger generation of the city about the need to increase their knowledge of Limas Houses and promote traditional tourism. The researchers used interviews with tour guides and secondary data from a literature review.
