Abstract

The urgency of implementing the One Health approach to overcome zoonotic diseases cannot be overstated. By recognizing the interconnectedness of human health, animal health, and the environment, we can effectively prevent and respond to emerging infectious disease threats. This correspondence provides information on the importance of generating research on zoonotic diseases, especially in Indonesia, where research is still relatively scarce. The Indonesian government has taken steps to implement the One Health by establishing the One Health Coordinating Unit and the National Zoonosis Committee; however, implementation has not been optimal. The urgency and challenges are focused on critical implementation aspects in the community. The urgency of implementing One Health includes that Indonesia has experienced several outbreaks of zoonotic diseases, high environmental degradation, and the antimicrobial resistance (AMR) issue in Indonesia has increased. The challenges faced in implementing One Health are overcoming fragmentation due to incohesive communication between important sectors, securing funding and resource investment, aligning policies to eliminate regulation barriers, capacity building to increase awareness and professionals, and addressing critical socioeconomic factors. By prioritizing implementing the One Health approach and addressing existing challenges, Indonesia can build a more resilient and integrated system to protect the well-being of all species, protect ecosystems, and prevent the devastating effects of zoonotic diseases on global health. In this review, we present the urgency of One Health implementation and its challenges comprehensively.

Abstract

This review aimed to provide an understanding of the importance of implementing green education in primary, secondary, and higher education. Green education is important in primary, secondary, and higher education because it promotes environmental conservation and sustainability. It integrates various disciplines and fosters ecological awareness, responsible citizenship, and sustainable practices. Green education in primary education introduces basic environmental concepts, whereas secondary education delves deeper into environmental issues and emphasizes critical thinking. Higher education provides specialized programs and courses in environmental studies, sustainability science, and green technology, equipping students with the expertise necessary to address global environmental challenges. Green education facilitates evidence-based learning, enabling individuals to make informed decisions and take action toward a more sustainable world.

Abstract

Tinjauan sistematis ini mengevaluasi efektivitas dan keamanan strategi vaksinasi polio di berbagai populasi dan setting. Data dari beberapa studi antara tahun 2015 hingga 2023 dikumpulkan secara sistematis dari basis data PubMed, Google Scholar, dan ScienceDirect dengan menggunakan kata kunci seperti "vaksinasi polio," "serokonversi," dan "pengeluaran virus." Data ini dianalisis untuk menilai tingkat serokonversi, pengeluaran virus, dan kejadian ikutan setelah vaksinasi. Hasil menunjukkan variasi yang signifikan dalam tingkat serokonversi dan pengeluaran virus di antara populasi studi yang berbeda, menekankan pentingnya pendekatan vaksinasi yang disesuaikan. Meskipun variasi ini, efikasi keseluruhan vaksinasi polio, terutama dengan vaksin poliovirus inaktif (IPV) dan vaksin poliovirus oral bivalen (bOPV), terbukti meningkatkan kekebalan populasi dan mengurangi transmisi virus. Temuan ini menegaskan pentingnya menjaga dan memperkuat program vaksinasi polio global untuk mencapai dan mempertahankan upaya eradikasi polio global. Penelitian masa depan sebaiknya difokuskan pada optimalisasi strategi vaksinasi dan mengatasi hambatan terhadap penerimaan vaksin untuk memastikan terus berkembangnya progres menuju eradikasi polio global.

Abstract

Background: Each year, dengue hemorrhagic fever has grown. Clinical hematological examinations and blood preparations are used to confirm the diagnosis. Purpose: To detect, assess and characterize dengue hemorrhagic fever blood smear at Bali Royal Hospital. Method: Cross-sectional descriptive observational study-was conducted in April at Bali Royal Hospital on 37 patients with dengue hemorrhagic fever, clinical hematological tests and the manufacture of blood preparations identified using inclusion and exclusion criteria. Platelet counts, hemoglobin levels, hematocrit values, leukocyte counts, clinic degrees, gender and age, and blue plasma lymphocytes, are all used in hematological analyzed by univariate, ANOVA and BNT tests to analyze data. Result: Patients with dengue hemorrhagic fever are mostly toddlers and children (35.13%), women (54.0%), and dengue fever degree I (64.86%) with positive blue plasma lymphocytes (51.36%). Platelet counts, hemoglobin levels, hematocrit values, and leukocyte counts are significantly changed on days 3, 6, and 9, with probability values (p=0.000) less than p=0.01. The findings of the BNT test indicate that the number of platelets and haemoglobin on various days is significantly different (p<0.01), but the hematocrit value and leukocyte calculation are not significantly different (p>0.01). Conclusion: Clinical hematological tests and blood preparations reveal a blood component anomaly in Dengue Haemorragic Fever (DHF) patients at Bali Royal Hospital on days 3, 6, and 9.

Abstract

Background: Refilled drinking water given by depots that currently have a permit for operation can be used to meet the community's drinking water demands. However, the quality of refilled drinking water has been tainted with pathogens that can cause health problems. Purpose: To assess the quality of replenished drinking water in Sesetan Village using Most Probable Number (MPN) Coliform and Escherichia coli as indicators. Method: A qualitative approach to descriptive observational research. The Ministry of Health standard 492/Menkes/PER/IV/2010 is used to assess drinking water quality. In this investigation, ten samples were used. Sampling was conducted in Sesetan Village, South Denpasar, Bali. Result: MPN Coliform was found in four samples: 96 MPN/100 mL (X1), 38 MPN/100 mL (X7), 15 MPN/100 mL (X8), and 5 MPN/100 mL (X10). Meanwhile, all of the samples tested negative for Escherichia coli. Conclusion: Based on drinking water quality criteria, 4 (40%) refilled drinking water depots (DAMIU) did not meet quality requirements (Ministry of Health Regulation number 492/Menkes/PER/2010).

Abstract

Berbagai kelompok masyarakat termasuk petani di UD. Lumiti, Desa Awen telah melakukan budidaya udang vaname. Permintaan yang tinggi akan udang vaname menjadikan proyeksi kebutuhan mengalami peningkatan signifikan. Dalam proses budidaya yang baik diperlukan teknik yang sesuai guna menghasilkan produk yang sesuai dengan harapan konsumen. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengiidentifikasi teknik budidaya udang vaname (L. vannamei) di UD. Lumiti, Desa Awen, Kabupaten Jembrana, Bali. Desain penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan pendekatan observasional. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan wawancara terarah dan observasi secara langsung selama bulan April 2021. Data dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian diperoleh teknik budidaya udang vaname tergolong sudah baik dan telah memenuhi standar operasional dalam pengelolaannya meliputi persiapan wadah, pembersihan tambak, pengeringan terpal, persiapan air media, penebaran benur, pengelolaan air media, manajemen pakan, panen, dan pascapanen. Sistem budidaya dilakukan secara intensif. Temuan menunjukkan terdapat empat petak tambak dengan padat tebar yang berbeda disetiap petak tambak, jenis tambak HDPE dengan sistem pengairan menggunakan pipa, air berasal dari sumur bor, bersifat alkali serta menggunakan sistem sirkulasi, pemberian pakan dilakukan dengan jumlah berbeda bergantung kapasitas dan kepadatan tebar, serta tingkat kelangsungan hidup (SR) mencapai 65%. Teknik budidaya udang vaname di UD. Lumiti perlu ditingkatkan dalam hal sarana prasarana, ketersediaan alat budidaya dan kualitas SDM guna meningkatkan kapasitas produksi dan kualitas produk.Kata kunci : Budidaya perikanan; udang vaname; produk perikanan; sistem intensif.

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji proses budidaya Citrus reticulata di Kusuma Agrowisata, Kota Batu dengan fokus pada tantangan, potensi, dan prospek pengembangan. Melalui pendekatan observasional dan analisis deskriptif kualitatif, studi ini mengidentifikasi proses budidaya Citrus reticulata di dataran tinggi, termasuk adaptasi terhadap perubahan iklim, manajemen hama dan penyakit, serta optimalisasi praktik agronomis. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di Kusuma Agrowisata, Kota Batu pada bulan Mei 2024. Temuan menunjukkan proses budidaya Citrus reticulata sangat kompleks dan diperlukan perawatan intensif mencakup pemilihan lokasi yang tepat, pengaturan jarak tanam, pemupukan seimbang, pengendalian hama dan penyakit terpadu, serta manajemen air yang efisien. Tantangan perubahan iklim, serangan hama dan penyakit serta kompetisi pasar. Integrasi teknologi pertanian presisi, pengembangan varietas unggul lokal, praktik budidaya ramah lingkungan dan diversifikasi menjadi kunci keberhasilan proses budidaya disertai dengan manajemen budidaya yang melibatkan petani, peneliti, dan pemerintah untuk memastikan keberlanjutan dan daya saing industri jeruk di Kota Batu.

Abstract

Antimicrobial resistance represents a critical global health challenge, necessitating the exploration of alternative therapeutic agents. This study investigated the antimicrobial potential of amla fruit tea (Phyllanthus emblica L.) through comprehensive phytochemical characterization, antibacterial assessment, and computational modeling to identify potential mechanisms of action. LC-HRMS analysis was employed for phytochemical profiling, antibacterial activity was evaluated via disk diffusion method against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, and molecular docking studies were conducted against tyrosyl-tRNA synthetase and FimH adhesin proteins. Analysis identified 89 bioactive compounds, with oxidized hydroxytetrahydrofuranyl acetate, L-α-palmitin, and ellagic acid predominating. Antibacterial activity against S. aureus and E. coli was evaluated via the disk diffusion method, revealing that moderate inhibition increased at higher concentrations (25%) and with extended exposure, with E. coli exhibiting greater susceptibility than S. aureus. Molecular docking studies against tyrosyl-tRNA synthetase (S. aureus) and FimH adhesin protein (E. coli) identified the W-18 benzenesulfonamide derivative as the most promising compound, which demonstrated strong binding affinities of -11.01 and -7.48 kcal/mol, respectively. While all five principal compounds met Lipinski's drug-likeness criteria, toxicological assessment revealed varying safety profiles, with two compounds classified as "possibly hazardous" and two as "toxic when swallowed." These findings suggest that amla fruit tea has antibacterial properties through two mechanisms: disruption of protein synthesis and bacterial adhesion. However, its efficacy remains considerably lower than that of conventional antibiotics, suggesting potential applications as complementary therapy rather than antibiotic replacement.

Abstract

Rabies is a fatal zoonotic disease caused by Lyssavirus of the Rhabdoviridae family. Timor-Leste experienced a rabies outbreak in March 2024, with a 100% fatality rate, primarily affecting dogs as the main reservoir. Bobonaro Municipality has reported an increasing number of confirmed cases, necessitating spatial approaches for effective control strategies. This study aimed to identify confirmed rabies case distribution patterns and predict transmission risk zones via GIS buffer analysis within the Bobonaro Municipality. This study utilized secondary data from 39 confirmed rabies cases from the Bobonaro Municipal Agriculture Service between January and June 2025. The analysis was conducted via the Buffer and Multiple Buffer tools in ArcGIS 10.8 software. The geographic coordinates of confirmed cases were mapped to generate distribution maps with transmission movement predictions on the basis of locations in each administrative post, village, and hamlet. Mapping revealed that the majority of confirmed rabies cases were concentrated in the northeastern Bobonaro Municipality, comprising the Cailaco administrative post with the hamlets of the Meligo village, such as Bereleu, Daulelo, Liabote, and Mude, plus the Maliana administrative post. Buffer analysis with a 2 km radius identified tendencies for animal movement at risk of local rabies transmission that could spread to humans and other animals, including neighboring municipalities sharing land borders with Bobonaro. GIS-based buffer analysis successfully identified high-risk zones for rabies transmission within a 2 km radius of the average confirmed case locations. These findings provide an evidence-based foundation for policymakers to implement effective and specific rabies control strategies tailored to Timor-Leste's resource-limited environment.

Abstract

This study aimed to explore the importance of green education in Indonesia by investigating the opportunities and challenges that arise from a literature review. Learner constructivism emphasizes students’ active involvement in exploring environmental concepts, whereas critical thinking enables them to analyze, synthesize, and evaluate information to make sound judgments. There are several opportunities to implement green education in Indonesia, particularly to address environmental challenges, promote sustainability, and foster the generation of environmentally conscious individuals. However, there are challenges to implementing green education, such as limited resources, insufficient teacher training, and resistance to change. In the future, green education should be integrated into educational curricula and programs to foster environmental awareness, promote sustainable practices, cultivate critical thinking skills among learners, and minimize actions that harm the environment.
