Abstract

This study presents a literature review of Ethno-STEAM/Ethno-STEM in chemistry education, focusing on instructional models, digital learning resources, and reported effects on chemical literacy and critical thinking from 2021 to 2025. The review employed a systematic search, screening, and selection procedure aligned with the PRISMA 2020 guideline, followed by a qualitative synthesis using thematic analysis and narrative comparative synthesis. Searches were conducted in Scopus (n = 10), Web of Science (n = 10), and SINTA (n = 30). Following PRISMA 2020, 50 records were identified, 12 duplicates were removed, 38 records were screened by title and abstract, 22 full texts were assessed for eligibility, and 15 studies were included in the qualitative synthesis. The findings indicate that the corpus is dominated by development-oriented (R&D) studies emphasizing the design of digitally supported learning resources—most commonly e-modules and e-worksheets/e-LKPD—alongside a smaller number of empirical studies and review evidence (SLR/meta-analysis). Ethno-STEAM/Ethno-STEM is operationalized through multiple pedagogical pathways, primarily inquiry-based approaches (guided/blended inquiry), project/problem-based learning (PjBL/PBL), practicum-oriented learning (including e-lab designs), and culturally responsive teaching. Local wisdom and cultural practices are typically positioned as a contextual foundation for mapping cultural phenomena onto chemistry concepts and for structuring investigation, design, and communication tasks aligned with STEAM practices. Outcome synthesis suggests more consistent support for critical thinking improvement, whereas direct evidence for chemical literacy remains comparatively limited and constrained by variability in outcome measurement and reporting. The review highlights the need for more robust empirical evaluations with clearer reporting of instructional syntax and implementation fidelity, as well as more standardized measurement of chemical literacy and critical thinking.

Abstract

Language development remains a central challenge for children with special needs, requiring counseling interventions that are both engaging and developmentally appropriate. This study examined the effectiveness of singing therapy integrated into counseling services at SLB-C Santa Lusia Medan, Indonesia, using a quantitative experimental design with a pretest–posttest control group approach. Thirty students with special needs were randomly assigned to an experimental group (n = 15) and a control group (n = 15). The experimental group received 12 sessions of singing therapy over six weeks, while the control group participated in conventional learning activities. Language skills were assessed using a validated language proficiency test covering vocabulary, pronunciation, and sentence comprehension. Data were analyzed using paired-sample and independent-sample t-tests, complemented by effect size calculations (Cohen’s d). The results demonstrated significant improvements in all language skill indicators in the experimental group compared to the control group (p < 0.001), with very large effect sizes (d = 1.39–1.48). These findings indicate that singing therapy is a highly effective counseling intervention for enhancing language skills among children with special needs and can be systematically implemented within counseling services in special education settings. counseling intervention for enhancing language skills among children with special needs in special education settings

Abstract

Parental involvement in early childhood education is a crucial factor in supporting optimal child development. However, this involvement remains limited and has not been directly integrated into learning activities. Parents generally play only an administrative role, even though they have the potential to be a source of learning through their experience and profession. This study aims to describe the implementation of the Parent Teaching Class Program at Baitusshalihin Kindergarten (TKIT) Banda Aceh. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach, with five parents as teachers and one teacher as a companion. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation. While data analysis used an interactive analysis model that includes data reduction, data presentation, and verification. The results showed that the program was implemented through planning, implementation, and evaluation stages. Parents taught according to their professional backgrounds using demonstration methods, direct practice, and question and answer sessions, along with concrete media. This program had a positive impact on children's courage, communication skills, and participation, and helped children learn about various professions contextually. In addition, this program strengthened the partnership between schools and families in supporting early childhood learning.

Abstract

Social interaction skills are an important aspect of early childhood development, but in reality, there are still children who are unable to cooperate, communicate, and obey rules in group play activities. One effort that can be made to improve these skills is through the use of traditional games that are rich in social and cultural values. This study aims to determine the effect of the traditional game Lop-Lop Manok on the social interaction skills of early childhood at TKN 5 Banda Aceh. This study used a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest-posttest experimental design. The research subjects consisted of 18 children in group B. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation and documentation of children's social interaction skills before and after being given treatment in the form of applying the traditional game of Lop-Lop Manok. The data obtained were analyzed using a paired sample t-test. The results showed that the average score for children's social interaction skills increased from 2.13 in the pretest to 2.62 in the posttest. The t-test results showed a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), meaning that there was a significant difference between children's social interaction skills before and after the treatment. It can be concluded that the traditional game of Lop-Lop Manok has a significant effect on improving the social interaction skills of early childhood at TKN 5 Banda Aceh, as well as being an effective learning medium that supports the preservation of local Acehnese culture. The characteristics of the traditional game of Lop-Lop Manok are that it is a game originating from Aceh, has simple rules, does not require special equipment, involves social interaction, has educational value, develops social-emotional aspects, supports motor development, and is enjoyable.
