Abstract

Milk fatty acids are largely affected by genetic factors. Acetyl-CoA Carboxylase Alpha (ACACA) gene is one of the important genes in regulation and metabolic function of milk fatty acids in dairy cattle. The objective of this study was to find out the relationship of single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) ACACA gene with milk fatty acid trait in local dairy cattle. A total of 277 samples of Holstein Friesian (HF) were collected from Indonesian Research Institute for Animal Production (IRIAP), Animal Breeding Center and Forage Feed of Baturraden (ABCFFB), Central Java Province, Animal Husbandry Training Center of Cikole (AHTCC), West Java Province, Singosari Artificial Insemination Station (Singosari AIS), East Java Province, and Lembang Artificial Insemination (Lembang AIS), West Java Province, Indonesia. Genotyping of this SNP marker (g.2203G>T) was analyzed using the real-time Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) based on the hybridization TaqMan probe as the method for allelic discrimination. Milk samples were analyzed using Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry (GCMS). The results of this study revealed the GG and GT genotypes. The proportion of the GG genotype frequency (0.88) was higher than the GT genotype (0.11) and the G Allele frequency was shown higher than the T allele in all locations, i.e., 0.942 and 0.08, respectively. The ACACA gene g.2203G>T SNP was significant (p<0.05) for lauric (C12:0) and dodecanoic (C17:1) acids. It was concluded that the ACACA gene g.2203G>T SNP could be useful as a marker selection for milk fatty acid such as lauric and dodecanoic fatty acids.

Abstract

Budidaya itik di Desa Slorok Kecamatan Doko Kabupaten Blitar produktivitasnya rendah. Program pelaksanaan Pengabdian Kemitraan Masyarakat (PKM) ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan produktivitas itik hibrida yang dipelihara oleh kelompok Peking dan Sido Makmur. Metode yang digunakan dalam pelaksanaan ini yaitu survey terhadap masalah, analisis masalah dan penentuan fokus masalah. Pelatihan budidaya itik meliputi managemen pakan, sanitasi dan kesehatan itik hibrida. Hasil dari pelaksanaan PKM yaitu managemen pakan dilaksanakan diberikan pukul 06.00 WIB dan pukul 15.00 WIB. Pakan yang diberikan harus memenuhi syarat gizi pakan. Managemen sanitasi dilaksanakan untuk meminimalisir terserangnya penyakit pada itik. Penyakit yang sering terjadi pada itik di keompok ini yaitu ND, AI, Snot, CRD dan DHV. Ternak yang terinfeksi penyakit pelru dipisah dikandang yang berbeda dengan ternak lainnya. Kesimpulan kegiatan PKM ini sebagai upaya untuk meningkatkan produktivitas melalui managemen pakan, sanitasi dan kesehatan ternak itik hibrida super.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menganalisis pengaruh LED inframerah sebagai potensi dalam pengawetan kualitas susu formula cair yang termasuk salah satu jenis pangan mudah rusak. Penelitian yang dilakukan adalah penelitian kuantitatif desain true experiment. Data yang diperoleh adalah data hasil uji TPC kelompok kontrol tanpa paparan 0 LED inframerah yang didiamkan selama 2,5 jam dan kelompok pemaparan dengan dipapari 15 LED inframerah juga selama 2,5 jam di tempatkan di atas botol susu formula cair. Hasil rata-rata nilai TPC untuk kelompok kontrol didapatkan 16,93 X 105 CFU/mL. Sedangkan rata-rata nilai TPC untuk kelompok pemaparan didapatkan 2,7 x 105 CFU/mL. Dari hasil analisis uji statistik inferensial One way-Anova post-hoc Tukey didapatkan nilai signifikansi sebesar 0,006 < 0.05. Sehingga terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan pada susu formula cair yang dipapari LED inframerah terhadap penurunan jumlah bakteri dari hasil uji TPC.

Abstract

Milk fatty acid composition determines milk quality and the health of consumers. Stearoyl-CoA desaturase (SCD) gene controls lipid metabolism in the mammary gland, which plays an essential role in catalyzing saturated fatty acids (SFA) into monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA). This study aimed to analyze the genetic diversity of the SCD gene and its effect on the milk fatty acid quality of Holstein Friesian (HF). Genetic variants were identified on 226 HF cattle from various dairy breeding Stations in West Java, Central Java, and East Java in Indonesia. Blood samples were extracted and amplified using Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) technique based on TaqMan Probe to determine the genotype of the SCD gene at g.10153A>G locus. Milk samples were analyzed by Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry (GCMS) on 48 lactating cows. The SCD g.10153A>G produced three genotypes, namely AA (0.112), AG (0.640), and GG (0.271); and two alleles, namely A (0.409) and G (0.591). Genotype polymorphism of the SCD g.10153A>G had a significant effect (p<0.05) on SFA, including propionic acid (C3:0), butyric acid (C4:0), caprylic acid (C8:0), and pentacosylic acid (C25:0); and MUFA including hexadecenoic acid (C16:1) and total fatty acids. The SCD g.10153A>G SNP (AG genotype) could be one of the candidates as a genetic marker to assist selection in reducing SFA and increasing MUFA in the milk content of HF cows in Indonesia.

Abstract

This research aimed to analyze the phenotypic similarity and genetic characteristics of 1st and 2nd generation (G1 and G2) goat of Boer and PE goat yield crossbreeding. The number of offsprings of G1 and G2 was46 and 28 goats, respectively. Data analysis of phenotypic characteristics was estimated by calculating the opportunities of the number of the appearance of G1 and G2 offspring. The result showed that the percentages of the G2 of  W11 similarity (67.86%) more significant than G1 (26.09%).  The W21was the G1 (45.65%) higher than G2 (10.71%), and W31 was G1 (28.26%) higher than G2 (21.43%). It concluded that G2 had phenotypic similarities of the characteristic (color) in total progeny. The G2 goat displays the phenotypic characters of inheritance (color)patterns that had more significant similarity than the results of the G1, as well as similarities in morphological characters that were different from the G1. The characteristics (colors) in the G2 had dark brown head color greater than G1, and body conformation approaches to Boer goat. Other colors like light brown, plain white, black, and straight black on G1 greater than G2.

Abstract

Infrared applications have been widely used to reduce microorganisms in a product and food preservation. Milk is a food product that quickly decomposes, where the changes can be observed organoleptically. This study aimed to test infrared with various wavelengths of milk and observe changes in the organoleptic of milk. The method used was that the dairy milk samples were treated with infrared (IR) exposure of 880 nm and 940 nm. Observation of the changes in milk organoleptic, namely color, taste, and smell. The effectiveness of IR 880 nm has a better ability than IR 940 nm for smell and taste, while for IR 940 nm, color is better than IR 880 nm at 1 - 4 hours, and at 5 hours with 940 nm IR it changes white-brownish.

Abstract

Pembelajaran biologi di abad ke-21 mengalami transformasi signifikan dengan mengintegrasikan teknologi digital dan pendekatan pedagogis inovatif untuk membekali siswa dengan keterampilan abad ke-21, seperti berpikir kritis, kolaborasi, komunikasi, dan kreativitas. Pendekatan berbasis inkuiri, pembelajaran berbasis proyek, serta integrasi lintas disiplin menjadi strategi utama untuk meningkatkan relevansi materi biologi dengan tantangan dunia nyata. Teknologi seperti laboratorium virtual dan platform pembelajaran daring memungkinkan siswa memperoleh pengalaman belajar yang interaktif dan global. Namun, tantangan seperti kesenjangan akses teknologi, kesiapan guru, serta keterbatasan sumber daya menjadi hambatan dalam penerapan pembelajaran modern. Strategi inklusif yang mencakup penyediaan fasilitas, pelatihan guru, dan integrasi konten lokal menjadi solusi untuk mengatasi hambatan tersebut. Pendekatan yang adaptif dan kolaboratif mampu mencetak generasi yang tidak hanya memahami ilmu biologi secara mendalam tetapi juga mampu memberikan solusi terhadap permasalahan global seperti perubahan iklim dan keberlanjutan ekosistem. Artikel ini menyoroti peluang, tantangan, dan strategi untuk meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran biologi yang relevan dan berkelanjutan di era modern.

Abstract

Developing environmentally friendly livestock food provision in Blitar Regency through duck farming is one of the strategic efforts to increase community animal protein consumption while maintaining environmental sustainability. This community service program is designed with a participatory approach, education, and application of appropriate technology. The methods used include surveys, farmer training, implementation of technology to increase livestock productivity, use of biodigesters, and strengthening farmer institutions. The evaluation results showed a significant increase in farmer knowledge and skills, with an average post-test score increasing by 40% compared to the pre-test. The adoption of appropriate technology, such as feed biofermentation, and biodigesters, has succeeded in reducing production costs by 30%. Livestock productivity increased with production, while duck mortality rates decreased from 15% to 5%. Strengthening farmer institutions through the formation of farmer groups also increases the organizational capacity and bargaining power of farmers, including in accessing government financing and support. This program not only has a positive impact on farmer welfare but also contributes to meeting the community's animal protein needs and better environmental management. The sustainability of this program is expected to be achieved through supervision and synergy between the government, academics, and the private sector. This holistic approach shows great potential for replication in other areas with similar conditions.

Abstract

Produksi susu nasional memiliki peran strategis dalam memenuhi kebutuhan gizi masyarakat dan mendukung program makan bergizi yang dicanangkan oleh presiden terpilih. Namun, hingga saat ini, produksi susu dalam negeri belum mampu memenuhi permintaan nasional, sehingga ketergantungan pada impor masih tinggi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis tren kinerja produksi susu nasional berdasarkan data nasional serta mengidentifikasi faktor-faktor yang memengaruhi peningkatannya dalam konteks kebijakan pangan dan gizi. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah analisis data sekunder dari Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS), Kementerian Pertanian, serta berbagai studi ilmiah yang relevan. Analisis tren dilakukan untuk melihat perkembangan produksi susu dalam 12 tahun terakhir, sementara pendekatan deskriptif digunakan untuk mengevaluasi aspek strategis peningkatan produksi susu nasional. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa kinerja produksi susu nasional mengalami fluktuasi dari tahun ke tahun sampai hari ini. Laju pertumbuhan produksi susu masih jauh lebih rendah dibandingkan dengan pertumbuhan konsumsi. Beberapa faktor yang berpengaruh terhadap kinerja produksi susu meliputi populasi ternak perah, lingkungan (pakan), kualitas genetika ternak, ketersediaan pakan, efisiensi sistem peternakan, serta kebijakan pemerintah dalam mendukung industri susu. Program Makan Bergizi Gratis (MBG) menjadi salah satu lompatan untuk memacu produksi susu nasional. Upaya mendukung MBG akan importasi sapi perah sebanyak 200.000 ekor (2025). Modernisasi peternakan dan penguatan kelembagaan peternak juga harus menjadi langkah strategis utama dalam meningkatkan produksi susu nasional. Melalui pendekatan yang terintegrasi seperti ini maka peningkatan produksi susu nasional akan meningkat dan keberlanjutan industri susu.

Abstract

The development of the super hybrid duck cultivation and breeding business in Blitar Regency is a strategic effort to increase the productivity and economy of local breeders. The use of energy-efficient hatching machines in developing super hybrid duck cultivation and breeding businesses in Blitar Regency is an innovative step in the livestock industry. This technology aims to increase efficiency, productivity and sustainability in the duck egg hatching process. The aim is to identify potential, challenges and solutions in developing a super hybrid duck cultivation and breeding business in the region. The research methods used were field surveys, interviews and data analysis. The results of this program show that Blitar Regency has considerable potential to develop a super hybrid duck cultivation business, but is still faced with a number of challenges such as lack of technical knowledge, inadequate infrastructure, and limited market access. Adoption of technology in developing and breeding super hybrid ducks through the use of machines, namely hatching machines designed to be energy efficient, including energy efficiency, reduced operational costs, increased productivity and quality of duck seeds. The implications of adoption of technology can reduce the environmental impacts and improve the economics of adopting this technology, as well as the challenges and opportunities associated. It is hoped that the various solutions proposed, including technical training and infrastructure improvements, can serve as a guide for all groups, including breeders, government and related stakeholders, in supporting the development of super hybrid duck cultivation and breeding businesses in Blitar Regency.
