Abstract

Introduction: Biological hazards remain a primary occupational health concern for healthcare workers, particularly in primary healthcare centers where frequent contact with patients, biological specimens, and infectious medical waste occurs. Limited infrastructure and suboptimal occupational safety and health (OSH) implementation further increase the risk of biological exposure among healthcare workers at the primary care level. Research Methodology: This study employed a mixed-methods, sequential explanatory design at the West Walenrang Health Center. Quantitative data were collected through field observations and structured questionnaires administered to all 48 healthcare workers, using total sampling. Biological risks were identified and assessed using the Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Determining Control (HIRADC) method with a risk matrix. Qualitative data were obtained through in-depth interviews with selected healthcare workers from high-risk units to explore contextual factors influencing biological risk exposure and control practices. Results: The findings indicated that biological hazards were the most dominant occupational risks. High-risk exposures were primarily associated with contact with blood and body fluids, needlestick and sharps injuries, and improper management of infectious medical waste, each scoring 12 on the HIRADC risk matrix. Moderate risks were identified in relation to direct contact with infectious patients and aerosol-generating medical procedures. Existing control measures were largely limited to personal protective equipment and administrative controls, while higher-level controls, such as engineering interventions, were insufficient. Qualitative findings supported these results, highlighting inconsistent use of protective equipment, inadequate waste management, limited training, and weak supervision. Conclusion: Biological risk management at the primary healthcare level remains inadequate. It is recommended that comprehensive HIRADC implementation, improved medical waste management systems, regular occupational safety training, and the integration of higher-level control measures be strengthened to reduce biological exposure among healthcare workers effectively.

Abstract

Abstract

Students can be unpredictable and sometimes do not comply with the No Smoking Area (NSA) policy. At SMK Negeri 1 Parigi Selatan, more than 50 students were found smoking in areas where the NSA has been implemented. This study aims to analyze the factors influencing student compliance with the NSA policy at SMK Negeri 1 Parigi Selatan. The study is quantitative in nature, taking the form of an analytical survey with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 125 male students selected using a total sampling technique. The data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate Chi-Square tests. The results showed significant relationships between student compliance with the NSA policy and attitudes (p = 0.001), facilities and infrastructure (p = 0.005), and peers (p = 0.009), with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) calculated using SPSS. It is expected that schools will organize education on the benefits of NSA to improve students' positive attitudes, provide educational posters in support of NSA, improve facilities and infrastructure, and hold workshops to enhance peer collaboration on the KTR policy.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Tuberculosis disease is still a serious global public health problem characterized by high incidence, morbidity, and mortality that requires special attention and ongoing intervention from various parties.  Therefore, the implementation of  the Directly Observed Treatment Shortcourse (DOTS) strategy is one of the efforts to control TB that has proven to be effective globally in overcoming the problem of tuberculosis disease. The Sangurara Health Center Working Area has a high incidence of TB cases and there are still challenges in achieving optimal treatment success. Of the 13 existing health centers, Sangurara Health Center is the health center with the highest number of TB cases in Palu City.  This condition shows the importance of identifying specific factors that can affect the success of the TB program in this Working Area.  This study aims to analyze the relationship between treatment regularity, knowledge of tuberculosis and DOTS, and the role of PMO with treatment success. This type of research is quantitative with an analytical survey design and a cross-sectional approach. The population in this study is all TB patients who have successfully treated or failed in 2023 in the Sangurara Health Center Working Area of 53 people, with questionnaires as a data collection instrument. The results showed that the variables of regularity of treatment (p = 0.000), knowledge of TB and DOTS (p = 0.000), and the role of PMO (p = 0.000) had a significant relationship with the success of treatment of TB patients. The conclusion of this study is that the Directly Observed Treatment Shortcourse Strategy  has a significant relationship with the Success of Treatment of Tuberculosis Patients in the Working Area of the Sangurara Health Center, Palu City.

Abstract

Background: Central Sulawesi is one of the most disaster-prone regions in Indonesia. In Sigi Regency, Beka Village experienced repeated floods between 2018 and 2021, while post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction following the 2018 disaster reached only 70.77 percent, leading to the issuance of Central Sulawesi Governor Regulation No. 4 of 2022. This study aimed to analyze the implementation of rehabilitation and reconstruction policies in Beka Village. Methods: A qualitative case study approach was used involving informants from the Sigi Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, and the Beka Village Government. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document reviews, and analyzed using content analysis with triangulation techniques. Result: The findings show that policy communication and clarity were generally adequate, although consistency among implementing agencies remained limited. Human resources, budgets, and facilities were sufficient, while leadership commitment and employee incentives supported implementation. However, weaknesses were identified in the bureaucratic structure, particularly the absence of sanctions for SOP violations and the lack of specific SOPs for rehabilitation and reconstruction activities. Conclusion: The implementation of Central Sulawesi Governor Regulation No. 4 of 2022 has not been fully effective, especially regarding communication and SOP availability. Improved coordination among implementing agencies is needed to accelerate rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts.
