Abstract

Backgrounds: Indonesia is the second-largest cigarette market in the world, with an increased smoking rate among young people aged 10-18 years. The latest data show that smoking is increasingly common in youth. Tobacco control will reduce public demand for tobacco products, especially if the supply of tobacco can be limited. Methods: This study, conducted in Tebing Tinggi City, North Sumatra Province, aimed to collect data on the density of cigarette sellers around schools and their impact on students' smoking behavior. The research involved 1914 students from 10 schools, examining factors such as smoking laws, age at first smoking, daily cigarette consumption, location, and advertisements. The study used a cross-sectional design, GPS coordinates, QGIS 3.0 analysis, and in-depth interviews with a Tebing Tinggi City Health Office representative. The findings will be analyzed using the JASP computer program. Results: The study shows that 8.2% of adolescents in Tebing Tinggi City have never smoked, with mixed views on the smoking law. The majority do not smoke, with varying smoking rates and exposure to cigarette advertisements. The study also found a high density of cigarette sellers in junior and senior high schools, indicating a lack of awareness about smoking. Conclusions: Most adolescents in Kota Tebing Tinggi do not smoke, with mixed views on the smoking law. They are exposed to cigarette advertisements in school and home environments, with vendors providing easy access. Increased awareness and effective law enforcement are needed to control cigarette advertising and sales.

Abstract

ISPA is a disease that can attack the upper and lower respiratory tract that can be caused by several infectious agents that not only involve individual morbidity but also burden health services, and a person's productivity. This study aims to understand the prevalence of ISPA and risk factors that affect the community in the work area of the Sunggal Community Health Center, Medan City in 2025. The study used a descriptive analytical method with a cross-sectional design involving 314 respondents. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using the chi-square test. The results of the bivariate analysis showed that age, smoking habits and preventive measures had a significant relationship with the incidence of ISPA. Age correlates with the incidence of ARI (p=0.034), where young adults have a higher proportion of ARI (59.6%) than older adults (47.7%). Smoking habits are significantly associated with the incidence of ARI (p=0.001), respondents who smoke are more likely to experience ARI (66.4%) than non-smokers (47.1%). Preventive action variables are also significantly associated with the incidence of ARI (p=0.002), with a tendency that the worse the action, the higher the incidence of ARI (inadequate action 75.6%, sufficient 54.5%, good 44.2%). Meanwhile, the variables of gender (p=0.215), last education (p=0.066), occupation (p=0.115), knowledge (p=0.313), and attitude (p=0.982) do not show a significant relationship with the incidence of ARI. ARI control efforts should not only focus on case therapy but must strengthen promotive and preventive efforts as well as risk management at the family and community levels. Keywords: ISPA, Determinants, Health Behavior

Abstract

The impacted community's basic requirements have not been met as a result of the natural disaster that struck Aceh Tamiang Regency. In order to guarantee that aid is targeted, particularly for vulnerable populations (toddlers, pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities), the Community Service program aims to distribute integrated logistical assistance and give distribution assistance. Benua Raja Village, Bukit Tempurung Village, Purwodadi Village, and Rantau Village were the four impacted villages where this exercise was carried out on December 7, 2025. Involving the community and volunteers, the strategies employed included gathering and delivering logistical support, distributing bundles of necessities, and offering distribution support all the way to the end. The activity's findings show that, in spite of obstacles brought on by difficult environmental circumstances and restricted access, community-based distribution and the integrated logistics package approach can increase assistance distribution's accuracy, transparency, and accountability. This program not only provides for the basic requirements of the community but also enhances local volunteer talents and humanitarian networks. Aid distribution was more successful thanks to the integrated logistical strategy and field support, which may be repeated in subsequent flood situations. It is intended that this initiative will serve as a template for adaptable and long-lasting community service approaches to disaster relief

Abstract

Children of migrant workers often face limited access to basic services and health education, which can negatively affect their personal hygiene practices. This community engagement initiative aimed to enhance self-efficacy and improve hygiene knowledge and behaviors among migrant children through simple, enjoyable, and contextually relevant approaches. The program was implemented at Sanggar Belajar Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia, in July 2025, involving a total sample of 30 children aged 7-13 years. The intervention combined interactive lectures, demonstrations of the seven-step of proper handwashing, or what is commonly known as CTPS or Cuci Tangan Pakai Sabun, and toothbrushing techniques, as through a modified educational board game based on Snakes and Ladders. Monitoring was conducted descriptively through baseline and final observations, along with informal oral questioning (without formal questionnaires) to assess changes in knowledge, attitudes, participation, and signs of self-efficacy. The results indicated meaningful practical improvements: over 80% of participants could identify 3-5 correct hygiene practices; children showed increased confidence in demonstrating the seven CTPS steps and expressed commitment to brushing their teeth at least twice daily; and high levels of active participation were observed (≥25 children engaged in discussions, Q&A, and games until the end of the session). The program was well received by both participants and facilitators, suggesting that a combination of brief lectures, simulation, and gamification is practically effective for promoting hygiene in migrant community contexts Keywords: Personal Hygiene, Migrant Children, Indonesia, Self-Efficacy, Malaysia

Abstract

Digital transformation in hospitals has enhanced access to treatments; nonetheless, many individuals continue to encounter challenges in comprehending administrative procedures, engaging with the Social Security Agency, and utilizing digital services. This community service initiative seeks to enhance health administration literacy among the users of Malahayati Islamic Hospital in Medan, thereby fostering greater independence and accuracy in executing administrative procedures. The activity occurred in August 2025, aimed at patients and/or their accompanying families who were willing to engage in the program. The intervention methods encompassed community education via interactive counseling and discussions, dissemination of science and technology through concise guides/leaflets and video tutorials, training through reflective simulations on the utilization of hospital digital services, mediation to elucidate administrative barriers with pertinent units, and advocacy through recommendations for enhancing information services. The evaluation involved administering pre-tests and post-tests to 30 participants, with skill observation throughout the simulation and collection of participant feedback. The results demonstrated a substantial enhancement in knowledge post-intervention, with an average pretest score of 9.63 (SD 2.512) rising to 19.10 (SD 1.094), signifying an improvement in health administration literacy among the service users of Malahayati Islamic Hospital in Medan following the intervention. Hospital service users increased their awareness of necessary paperwork, the patient registration process for both new and existing patients, and developed enhanced confidence in utilizing digital services. This effort significantly enhanced health administration literacy and is advised to persist through ongoing education, mentoring for digitally disadvantaged populations, and the availability of readily accessible digital resources

Abstract

The assessment aims to demonstrate the level of competency mastery of students and the effectiveness of the learning methods applied by educators. Based on interviews conducted with Indonesian language teachers of eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Sumbang, it was found that the level of student achievement of the minimum passing grade (KKM) in the Final Year Assessment was still relatively low. The quality of the questions greatly determines the effectiveness of assessing student competency. This study aims to analyze the quality of the final assessment questions for the Indonesian language subject for eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Sumbang for the 2024/2025 academic year. This study used a quantitative approach with a descriptive method. The research object consisted of 45 PAT questions with a sample of 144 students. Data were obtained through documentation techniques and analyzed using a classical test theory approach assisted by the Anates application. The analysis focused on the aspects of validity, reliability, difficulty level, discriminating power, and effectiveness of distractors. The results showed that the quality of PAT items still varied and did not fully meet the criteria for a quality assessment instrument. Some items were not valid, the test reliability coefficient was low, the difficulty level distribution was not balanced, the discriminating power of some items was still weak, and most distractors did not function optimally.

Abstract

Background: Indonesian migrant workers' children in Malaysia face restricted access to formal schooling and reproductive-health (SRH) information. Objective: To design and implement a community-based SRH programme that builds children's self-efficacy using an Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach supported by educational gaming. Methods: A community programme at El Shaddai Learning Centre (Kuala Lumpur) engaged 30 children (7-14 years). The ABCD cycle (discover-dream-design-deliver) informed asset mapping, shared visioning, co-designed content, and delivery/evaluation. The intervention comprised age-appropriate interactive talks and a cause-and-effect “snakes-and-ladders” board game. Formative and summative assessments (structured observation, brief oral quizzes) captured SRH understanding and early self-efficacy indicators. Results: Relative to baseline, participants demonstrated improved ability to define SRH, identify age-appropriate protective behaviours, and articulate consequences of risky choices. Early self-efficacy signals (e.g., refusal of unsafe invitations; concrete steps to maintain personal boundaries) were evident during group work and gameplay. Conclusions: An ABCD-anchored, game-supported format is feasible and acceptable in migrant settings. Sustainability should leverage peer-education, youth-friendly referrals, and light process indicators for ongoing monitoring.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Test anxiety is a common problem experienced by students and can negatively affect concentration and academic performance when it occurs excessively. This study aims to examine the effect of systematic desensitization techniques on the anxiety levels of eighth-grade students at SMPN 14 Mataram. This research employed a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design using a one-group pre-test and post-test model. The population consisted of 60 students, with a sample of 8 students identified as having high levels of anxiety based on initial assessments. Data were collected using questionnaires as the primary instrument, supported by observation, interviews, and documentation. The data were analyzed using a t-test to determine differences in anxiety levels before and after the treatment. The results showed a decrease in students’ anxiety levels after the implementation of systematic desensitization techniques. This is evidenced by the calculated t-value of 7.031, which is higher than the t-table value of 2.365 at a 5% significance level (df = 7). Therefore, it can be concluded that systematic desensitization techniques have a significant effect on reducing students’ anxiety in facing examinations. These findings indicate that the technique can be used as an alternative strategy in guidance and counseling services in schools.
