Abstract

Digital transformation in hospitals has enhanced access to treatments; nonetheless, many individuals continue to encounter challenges in comprehending administrative procedures, engaging with the Social Security Agency, and utilizing digital services. This community service initiative seeks to enhance health administration literacy among the users of Malahayati Islamic Hospital in Medan, thereby fostering greater independence and accuracy in executing administrative procedures. The activity occurred in August 2025, aimed at patients and/or their accompanying families who were willing to engage in the program. The intervention methods encompassed community education via interactive counseling and discussions, dissemination of science and technology through concise guides/leaflets and video tutorials, training through reflective simulations on the utilization of hospital digital services, mediation to elucidate administrative barriers with pertinent units, and advocacy through recommendations for enhancing information services. The evaluation involved administering pre-tests and post-tests to 30 participants, with skill observation throughout the simulation and collection of participant feedback. The results demonstrated a substantial enhancement in knowledge post-intervention, with an average pretest score of 9.63 (SD 2.512) rising to 19.10 (SD 1.094), signifying an improvement in health administration literacy among the service users of Malahayati Islamic Hospital in Medan following the intervention. Hospital service users increased their awareness of necessary paperwork, the patient registration process for both new and existing patients, and developed enhanced confidence in utilizing digital services. This effort significantly enhanced health administration literacy and is advised to persist through ongoing education, mentoring for digitally disadvantaged populations, and the availability of readily accessible digital resources

Abstract

The assessment aims to demonstrate the level of competency mastery of students and the effectiveness of the learning methods applied by educators. Based on interviews conducted with Indonesian language teachers of eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Sumbang, it was found that the level of student achievement of the minimum passing grade (KKM) in the Final Year Assessment was still relatively low. The quality of the questions greatly determines the effectiveness of assessing student competency. This study aims to analyze the quality of the final assessment questions for the Indonesian language subject for eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Sumbang for the 2024/2025 academic year. This study used a quantitative approach with a descriptive method. The research object consisted of 45 PAT questions with a sample of 144 students. Data were obtained through documentation techniques and analyzed using a classical test theory approach assisted by the Anates application. The analysis focused on the aspects of validity, reliability, difficulty level, discriminating power, and effectiveness of distractors. The results showed that the quality of PAT items still varied and did not fully meet the criteria for a quality assessment instrument. Some items were not valid, the test reliability coefficient was low, the difficulty level distribution was not balanced, the discriminating power of some items was still weak, and most distractors did not function optimally.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Test anxiety is a common problem experienced by students and can negatively affect concentration and academic performance when it occurs excessively. This study aims to examine the effect of systematic desensitization techniques on the anxiety levels of eighth-grade students at SMPN 14 Mataram. This research employed a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design using a one-group pre-test and post-test model. The population consisted of 60 students, with a sample of 8 students identified as having high levels of anxiety based on initial assessments. Data were collected using questionnaires as the primary instrument, supported by observation, interviews, and documentation. The data were analyzed using a t-test to determine differences in anxiety levels before and after the treatment. The results showed a decrease in students’ anxiety levels after the implementation of systematic desensitization techniques. This is evidenced by the calculated t-value of 7.031, which is higher than the t-table value of 2.365 at a 5% significance level (df = 7). Therefore, it can be concluded that systematic desensitization techniques have a significant effect on reducing students’ anxiety in facing examinations. These findings indicate that the technique can be used as an alternative strategy in guidance and counseling services in schools. ABSTRAK Kecemasan dalam menghadapi ujian merupakan masalah yang umum dialami siswa dan dapat berdampak pada penurunan konsentrasi serta performa akademik apabila terjadi secara berlebihan. Abstract

Lymphatic filariasis remains a public health problem in North Sumatra Province, but research focusing on adolescents as a “hidden reservoir” in the transmission chain is still very limited. Most previous studies have focused on adult populations or small endemic clusters, thereby neglecting the specific risk dynamics in younger age groups. This study aims to analyze environmental and behavioral determinants that influence the incidence of filariasis specifically in the adolescent population in North Sumatra using provincial-level data. We conducted a cross-sectional analytical study using secondary data from the 2018 Indonesian Basic Health Survey (Riskesdas). A total of 13,860 individuals were included from all 33 districts/cities in North Sumatra using a census block sampling method. The dependent variable was filariasis incidence. Independent variables included demographic characteristics, ventilation adequacy, waste management, and mosquito prevention practices (e.g., repellent use, insecticide-treated nets). Data analysis was performed using chi-square tests and binary logistic regression to determine significant associations, with statistical significance set at p < 0.05. Among households surveyed, only 50.2% had adequate bedroom ventilation, while 91.4% had uncovered garbage, serving as potential mosquito breeding grounds. Insecticide-treated net usage was low (38%), and nearly half of the adolescents did not use repellents. Garbage disposal was significantly associated with filariasis incidence in all demographic groups (p < 0.001). Repellent use showed a protective association among rural residents (p = 0.02) and females (p = 0.018). Homes equipped with window screens had lower infection rates. The risk of filariasis in adolescents in North Sumatra is predominantly triggered by the failure of the household waste management system and the lack of physical protection of residential ventilation. The insignificance of mosquito net use confirms that transmission among adolescents occurs more through interaction with vector habitats outdoors or during nocturnal activities. Health interventions should shift from mass treatment to improving environmental sanitation and educating adolescents on adaptive self-protection behaviors.

Abstract

Introduction: The global climate crisis poses an unprecedented threat to human health, yet in highly religious societies such as Indonesia, integrating Islamic values into public health strategies for environmental behavior remains largely unexplored. Objective: This study aims to analyze the relationship between religiousness, pro-environmental attitudes, and environmentally friendly behavior among Muslim adolescents in North Sumatra Province, Indonesia. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 1,291 students from Islamic universities in Medan, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a validated online questionnaire to measure religiosity, attitudes toward the environment, and self-reported pro-environmental behavior. Because the data distribution was not normal (p < 0.001), Spearman's rank correlation was used to test the hypothesis with JASP version 19 software at a 95% confidence level. Results: A statistically significant positive correlation was found between religiosity and pro-environmental behavior (r = 0.501, p < 0.001). In addition, a stronger positive correlation was observed between religiosity and attitudes toward the environment (r = 0.565, p < 0.001). These results indicate that higher levels of religious commitment are systematically associated with greater ecological awareness and action. Conclusion: Religiosity is a significant determinant of pro-environmental attitudes and behaviors among Muslim youth in Indonesia. Integrating environmental fiqh (Fiqh al-Bi’ah) into public health interventions offers a powerful and culturally rooted strategy for reducing climate-related health risks. Keywords:  Islamic, Public Health, Pro-Environmental Behavior, Religiosity.

Abstract

Children of migrant workers often face limited access to basic services and health education, which can negatively affect their personal hygiene practices. This community engagement initiative aimed to enhance self-efficacy and improve hygiene knowledge and behaviors among migrant children through simple, enjoyable, and contextually relevant approaches. The program was implemented at Sanggar Belajar Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia, in July 2025, involving a total sample of 30 children aged 7-13 years. The intervention combined interactive lectures, demonstrations of the seven-step of proper handwashing, or what is commonly known as CTPS or Cuci Tangan Pakai Sabun, and toothbrushing techniques, as through a modified educational board game based on Snakes and Ladders. Monitoring was conducted descriptively through baseline and final observations, along with informal oral questioning (without formal questionnaires) to assess changes in knowledge, attitudes, participation, and signs of self-efficacy. The results indicated meaningful practical improvements: over 80% of participants could identify 3-5 correct hygiene practices; children showed increased confidence in demonstrating the seven CTPS steps and expressed commitment to brushing their teeth at least twice daily; and high levels of active participation were observed (≥25 children engaged in discussions, Q&A, and games until the end of the session). The program was well received by both participants and facilitators, suggesting that a combination of brief lectures, simulation, and gamification is practically effective for promoting hygiene in migrant community contexts Keywords: Personal Hygiene, Migrant Children, Indonesia, Self-Efficacy, Malaysia

Abstract

Traditional fishermen face a high risk of skin health disorders due to extreme exposure to ultraviolet radiation and sea salinity. This study aims to capture the occupational safety culture through the practice of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) usage and the prevalence of skin disorders among traditional fishermen in Tanjung Balai Asahan. The research method used was quantitative with a cross-sectional design. A total of 110 fishermen were selected as samples using the total sampling technique. The results showed that PPE usage practices were still low and partial, with 54.5% of fishermen only wearing two types of PPE while working. The majority of fishermen prioritized the use of boots (68.2%) and hats (62.7%), but ignored long-sleeved clothing (54.5% did not use) and gloves (52.7% did not use). The prevalence of skin disorders was found to be very significant at 64.5%, with the dominant types being dermatitis (32.7%), followed by scabies (18.2%) and tinea corporis (13.6%). The conclusion of this study indicates a correlation between low comprehensive PPE compliance and high skin morbidity rates. Occupational safety education interventions focusing on changes in risk perception and improvement of personal hygiene are needed to reduce morbidity rates in the fishing community.

Abstract

Stunting remains a major public health issue in Indonesia. Preventive efforts should not only focus on toddlers but must also target adolescents as future parents, equipping them with adequate knowledge from an early age. This community service program aimed to empower university students through the "Mahasiswa Penting" (Students Who Care About Stunting) program, positioning them as educational agents to deliver stunting prevention information to high school and vocational school students in Medan City. The activity was conducted through training sessions for students as educational facilitators and the implementation of interactive health education sessions in schools. The materials covered included an introduction to stunting and the importance of adequate nutrition during adolescence. This program aimed to broaden adolescents' understanding of stunting, including its causes and how they can actively contribute to its prevention. It also sought to enhance students' communication skills in delivering health information. The activity was carried out in three high schools/vocational schools in Medan, reaching a total of 71 adolescent participants representing each school. The results showed an increase in knowledge, with the average score rising from 52.67 to 77.74. This indicates a significant improvement in adolescents' awareness of stunting and its risk factors. The program demonstrated that involving university students in stunting prevention can be an effective and sustainable promotive and preventive strategy. It is expected that this initiative can be expanded and replicated more broadly through cross-sectoral collaboration. Keywords: Stunting, University Students, Health Education, Adolescents
