Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the culinary sector have significant potential to support economic growth, particularly in generating employment opportunities, increasing income, and fostering local economic independence. However, the optimization of this potential is still constrained by several challenges, including limited access to capital, low production capacity, weak marketing strategies, income fluctuations, and inadequate supporting facilities and infrastructure. Therefore, an assistance program was conducted for culinary MSME actors in collaboration with Manggala Sakti Sejahtera, located in Kober Village, West Purwokerto District, Banyumas Regency. This assistance was implemented through a direct, participatory approach, using an integrated framework that includes identifying key problems, analyzing business needs, and evaluating program implementation. The program also focused on enhancing the capacity of business actors in production management, strengthening marketing strategies, and optimizing the use of available facilities and infrastructure. The results indicate that the integrated assistance program effectively improved business readiness, enhanced managerial practices, and significantly strengthened the sustainability and competitiveness of culinary MSMEs.

Abstract

Children of migrant workers often face limited access to basic services and health education, which can negatively affect their personal hygiene practices. This community engagement initiative aimed to enhance self-efficacy and improve hygiene knowledge and behaviors among migrant children through simple, enjoyable, and contextually relevant approaches. The program was implemented at Sanggar Belajar Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia, in July 2025, involving a total sample of 30 children aged 7-13 years. The intervention combined interactive lectures, demonstrations of the seven-step of proper handwashing, or what is commonly known as CTPS or Cuci Tangan Pakai Sabun, and toothbrushing techniques, as through a modified educational board game based on Snakes and Ladders. Monitoring was conducted descriptively through baseline and final observations, along with informal oral questioning (without formal questionnaires) to assess changes in knowledge, attitudes, participation, and signs of self-efficacy. The results indicated meaningful practical improvements: over 80% of participants could identify 3-5 correct hygiene practices; children showed increased confidence in demonstrating the seven CTPS steps and expressed commitment to brushing their teeth at least twice daily; and high levels of active participation were observed (≥25 children engaged in discussions, Q&A, and games until the end of the session). The program was well received by both participants and facilitators, suggesting that a combination of brief lectures, simulation, and gamification is practically effective for promoting hygiene in migrant community contexts Keywords: Personal Hygiene, Migrant Children, Indonesia, Self-Efficacy, Malaysia

Abstract

Traditional fishermen face a high risk of skin health disorders due to extreme exposure to ultraviolet radiation and sea salinity. This study aims to capture the occupational safety culture through the practice of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) usage and the prevalence of skin disorders among traditional fishermen in Tanjung Balai Asahan. The research method used was quantitative with a cross-sectional design. A total of 110 fishermen were selected as samples using the total sampling technique. The results showed that PPE usage practices were still low and partial, with 54.5% of fishermen only wearing two types of PPE while working. The majority of fishermen prioritized the use of boots (68.2%) and hats (62.7%), but ignored long-sleeved clothing (54.5% did not use) and gloves (52.7% did not use). The prevalence of skin disorders was found to be very significant at 64.5%, with the dominant types being dermatitis (32.7%), followed by scabies (18.2%) and tinea corporis (13.6%). The conclusion of this study indicates a correlation between low comprehensive PPE compliance and high skin morbidity rates. Occupational safety education interventions focusing on changes in risk perception and improvement of personal hygiene are needed to reduce morbidity rates in the fishing community.

Abstract

Stunting remains a major public health issue in Indonesia. Preventive efforts should not only focus on toddlers but must also target adolescents as future parents, equipping them with adequate knowledge from an early age. This community service program aimed to empower university students through the "Mahasiswa Penting" (Students Who Care About Stunting) program, positioning them as educational agents to deliver stunting prevention information to high school and vocational school students in Medan City. The activity was conducted through training sessions for students as educational facilitators and the implementation of interactive health education sessions in schools. The materials covered included an introduction to stunting and the importance of adequate nutrition during adolescence. This program aimed to broaden adolescents' understanding of stunting, including its causes and how they can actively contribute to its prevention. It also sought to enhance students' communication skills in delivering health information. The activity was carried out in three high schools/vocational schools in Medan, reaching a total of 71 adolescent participants representing each school. The results showed an increase in knowledge, with the average score rising from 52.67 to 77.74. This indicates a significant improvement in adolescents' awareness of stunting and its risk factors. The program demonstrated that involving university students in stunting prevention can be an effective and sustainable promotive and preventive strategy. It is expected that this initiative can be expanded and replicated more broadly through cross-sectoral collaboration. Keywords: Stunting, University Students, Health Education, Adolescents
