Abstract

Medan Timur District, covering an area of 8.89 km² with a population of 117,035, serves as a hub for informal economic growth, particularly in the diverse and innovative culinary MSME sector. The shift in consumer behavior toward online shopping via platforms such as GoFood, GrabFood, and ShopeeFood poses challenges for culinary MSMEs due to limitations in technology, digital marketing knowledge, and online business management, which reduce competitiveness and market opportunities. This study aims to examine the impact of e-commerce utilization and innovation on the success of culinary businesses in Medan Timur and provide practical recommendations to support MSME sustainability. The research employs a quantitative descriptive method with a population of 350 culinary MSME actors and a sample of 187 respondents determined using Slovin’s formula with a 5% margin of error. The results indicate that both partially and simultaneously, e-commerce utilization and innovation have a significant effect on business success.

Abstract

A successful marketing plan is essential for piquing customer interest in buying items, pushing businesses to become more competitive with both local and international rivals. BTSA Logistics, an Indonesian shipping firm, began operations in Medan in 2000. According to data on the quantity of containers and revenue, BTSA Logistics Medan has fallen short of its goals. It is believed that this is due to two key reasons: poor service quality and a digital marketing plan that is still underdeveloped. This study included all 608 clients who completed transactions with BTSA Logistics Medan in 2024. The Slovin formula was used to calculate the study's sample size, which was 241 respondents. The study's findings suggest that digital marketing has a limited impact on interest in utilizing BTSA Logistics Medan's services. Service quality has a partial impact on interest in utilizing BTSA Logistics Medan services. Digital marketing and service quality have a combined impact on interest in utilizing BTSA Logistics Medan services.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of green products and green marketing on consumer purchase decisions in culinary MSMEs in Medan Tembung District. The background of the research is based on the low understanding of MSME actors on the importance of implementing environmentally sound strategies in attracting consumers. The research method used a descriptive quantitative approach by distributing questionnaires to 305 respondents through incidental sampling techniques. The data were analyzed using validity, reliability, and multiple linear regression tests with the help of SPSS 25. The results of the study show that green products and green marketing have a positive and significant effect, both partially and simultaneously, on consumer purchase decisions. This emphasizes that the success of culinary MSMEs is not only determined by the quality of taste and price, but also by a commitment to sustainability practices. The practical implication of this study is the need for MSMEs to strengthen green product strategies through the use of local raw materials, environmentally friendly packaging, and emphasizing green marketing with effective communication on social media to increase competitiveness and consumer loyalty.

Abstract

The rising adoption of financial technology, especially payment options like "buy now, pay later," is becoming more common among young individuals, especially students. This trend is very much connected to people wanting to buy more and more things and how well they can handle their own money. This research seeks to investigate how lifestyle and knowledge of financial matters affect whether students at the Faculty of Economics, Prima Indonesia University, Medan use "buy now, pay later" services. In this study, a quantitative method was used, involving a sample group of 363 people, with the number decided by using the Slovin formula. The results indicated that lifestyle and understanding of finance have a large impact on whether people use "buy now, pay later" fintech services, both separately and as a whole. Both factors together accounted for 41.6% of the behavior related to using "buy now, pay later," with financial understanding being a bigger factor than lifestyle. These conclusions highlight how important it is to increase students' knowledge of finance, so they can use "buy now, pay later" services more carefully and in a way that lasts, without causing money problems later on.

Abstract

The rapid proliferation of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies has created a significant gap between corporate economic reality and financial statement disclosure. While firms invest billions of dollars in AI systems, current accounting standards primarily IAS 38 (Intangible Assets) and IAS 16 (Property, Plant and Equipment) were not designed to accommodate the unique characteristics of AI assets. This paper conducts a systematic literature review of 20 peer-reviewed studies published between 2021 and 2024 to examine the challenges of recognising and measuring AI as a corporate asset. The findings identify five critical challenge domains: (1) recognition criteria ambiguity, (2) measurement model insufficiency, (3) rapid obsolescence, (4) data valuation complexity, and (5) ethical and disclosure deficiencies. We propose a five-tiered AI asset classification framework aligned with existing IFRS principles and provide guidance on recognition, measurement, and impairment testing. The study concludes that standard-setters, including the IASB, must urgently revisit intangible asset standards to reflect the economic substance of AI investments and ensure transparent, comparable financial reporting.

Abstract

The café business in Medan is rapidly growing, but increasing competition demands greater innovation in attracting consumers. Warkop & Fresh Milk Kakilima has experienced a decline in sales from 2021 to 2025, indicating a decrease in consumer purchase decisions. This is suspected to be influenced by suboptimal servicescape, content marketing, and experiential marketing, as supported by pre-survey results showing consumer dissatisfaction. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the influence of these three variables on consumer purchase decisions. The population in this study includes all consumers visiting Warkop & Fresh Milk Kakilima, whose exact number cannot be determined. Considering the uncertainty of the population size and the fluctuation of visiting consumers, the sample size was determined based on Hair’s recommendation. Therefore, the researcher decided to use 170 respondents as the research sample. The sampling technique applied is accidental sampling, which involves selecting respondents who are encountered by chance and are willing to participate. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that partially, servicescape, content marketing, and experiential marketing each have a positive and significant influence on purchase decisions at Warkop & Fresh Milk Kakilima Medan, as indicated by the t-value being greater than the t-table value. In addition, simultaneously, these three variables also have a significant effect on purchase decisions, as evidenced by the F-value being greater than the F-table value.

Abstract

This study explores how culinary MSMEs in Indonesia implement risk management strategies to cope with market uncertainty influenced by fluctuating consumer demand, digital competition, rising production costs, and unstable supply chains. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, the research gathered data through interviews, observations, and document reviews involving purposively selected MSME owners. The results show that most culinary MSMEs adopt informal, experience-driven practices to manage risks, focusing on product flexibility, diversified suppliers, cost-control efforts, and proactive digital engagement. The use of social media, online delivery services, and electronic payment systems supports wider customer reach, operational continuity, and more predictable transactions, even though digital literacy limitations and resource constraints continue to hinder optimal adoption. Comparative findings from Surabaya, Bandung/Soreang, Denpasar, Malang, and Sleman/Yogyakarta indicate that MSMEs across regions face similar risk patterns and apply comparable adaptive strategies, suggesting that these issues are structural rather than geographically unique. Overall, the study highlights that resilience among culinary MSMEs is strengthened by agility, practical decision-making, and effective utilization of digital tools. It also points to the importance of expanded institutional support, capability-building initiatives, and accessible risk management frameworks tailored to the needs of micro-enterprise actors.

Abstract

The International Community Service program was implemented in Pematang Johar Village, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra—an emerging semi-periurban area characterized by socioeconomic vulnerabilities that heighten residents’ exposure to illegal online lending and fraudulent investment schemes. Utilizing the Participatory Action Learning and Action Research (PALAR) approach, the program integrated experiential learning, critical reflection, group discussions, and locally relevant case studies to strengthen financial literacy. Evaluation results indicate substantial improvements across key indicators, including knowledge of licensed financial institutions, the ability to identify illegal financial practices, and overall financial prudence. These findings demonstrate that contextualized, community-based financial education effectively enhances risk awareness and encourages safer financial behaviour. The program further provides practical insights for designing scalable and replicable community financial literacy models applicable to similar semi-periurban contexts.
