Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has impact on various sectors, especially in the health sector. Efforts to prevent COVID- 19 can be done through the application of health protocols and balanced nutrition intake. There were a lot of misinformations related to COVID-19 prevention that might be a risk of increasing positive rate cases. The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of conventional nutrition education on knowledge and self-efficacy of COVID-19 prevention efforts. Study subjects of this study were 23 adults aged 19-65 years and taken by total sampling method. Nutritional knowledge data were collected using a questionnaire containing ten questions, while self-efficacy was assessed by creating a structured questionnaire on a scale of 0-100. Conventional education was given in the form of lectures related to the role of balanced nutrition, hoaxes related to food to prevent or treat COVID-19, and other COVID-19 prevention efforts for 90 minutes. Before and after education data were analyzed using paired t-test with SPSS version 23. This study results showed that nutrition education significantly improves nutritional knowledge (mean score before and after = 69.6 + 10.2 and 85.7 + 10.4; p < 0.001), self-efficacy to apply a balanced nutrition pattern (mean scores before and after = 68.2 + 13.0 and 75.5 + 17.5; p = 0.014), and the self-efficacy of implementing the health protocol (mean score before and after = 82.3 + 7.8 and 87.0 + 6.8; p = 0.002). This research can be used as a benchmark for the importance of expanding the coverage of conventional nutrition education to the wider community.

Abstract

Vitamin D defciency or insuffciency, including global public health problem. VitaminD status in pregnancy plays an important role on maternal and fetal health. Beside the classicalrole in bone and mineral metabolism, vitamin D and vitamin D receptor gene (VDR) is the keystimulating the proliferation and differentiation approximately 200-300 genes, which many ofthem regulate fetal development, it makes vitamin D important in pregnancy. The aim of thisreview is to explain how vitamin D-related implications on maternal and fetal health. Manyof the research concentration 25(OH)D serum levels is associated with pregnancy outcomes74 Volume 1, Nomor 2, Julii─Desember 2016such as preeclampsia, Gestational Diabetes Mellitus, Caesar birth delivery, bone health, preterm birth, intra uterine growth retardation, small for gestational age, and low birth weight.Pregnant mothers need higher vitamin D than usual. Therefore, a recommendation of vitaminD supplementation is needed for pregnant mothers who are defcient, safe and effective dose is4000 IU/day. The main source of vitamin D is most effective sun exposure UVB (90%) andfood (10%). The main determining factors affecting vitamin D status were the lifestyle, sunexposure behavior (use of sunblock, clothes, latitude, sunscreens) and low food intake of vitaminD. Therefore, women who undergo frst antenatal care recommended to be given informationregarding the importance of the role of vitamin D during pregnancy for maternal and fetalhealth.

Abstract

Gastrointestinal tract infections are still common in developing countries such as Indonesia. Gastritis as a gastric health problem has a risk factor for developing into a peptic ulcer or stomach cancer. This literature review aims to discuss the role of probiotics against the incidence of gastritis caused by Helicobacter pylori infection. This article based on a literature review of the role of lactic acid bacteria probiotics in the treatment of Helicobacter Pylori infection. It was found that the probiotic role of Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium was non-pathogenic and they were often used as probiotic mediators for H. pylori eradication. Probiotics affect the gastrointestinal tract through immunologic and non-immunological responses. Utilization of probiotic intake as one of adjuvant therapy in the treatment of gastritis disease might help the effectiveness of antibiotic drugs. But, to be used as a single therapy still needs further research.

Abstract

Background: In the era of new normal during covid-19 pandemic, malnutrition such as protein-energy malnutrition and anemia in pregnant women are common in Indonesia. Increasing energy, protein, and iron intake need to take into account with providing nutritious complementary foods to optimize foetal development during pregnancy. Objectives: This study aimed to develop complementary food product known as Prozi biscuit by using local foods such as mackerel, soybeans, and moringa leaves so that can increase the level of protein and iron intake in biscuits. Also, support the stunting prevention program. Methods: Experimental research was carried out using a single factor and customized random sampling such as T1 (20%;80%), T2 (50%:50%), T3 (80%:20%) and one control formulation which contains 100% wheat flour or T0 (100%:0%). Comparison of ingredients was made using a mixture of flour (10% Moringa leaves, 20% soybean flour, 20% mackerel flour and 50% sweet potato flour) and wheat flour. Data analysis used the One Way ANOVA test to see differences in the content of macronutrients and iron. Results: The higher the proportion of mixed flour added to the formulation will increase the water, ash, protein and fat content and reduce the carbohydrate content of the biscuit. Partial substitution of wheat flour had a significant effect in protein and iron content of the “Prozi” biscuit (6-11% and 1.56-2.73 mg/100 g) (P<0.05). Conclusions: The addition of this mixed flour has a positive effect on increasing protein and iron levels in biscuits. The development of "Prozi" biscuits can be used as PMT biscuits for pregnant women to provide additional protein and iron intake to prevent anemia during pregnancy and prevent stunting.

Abstract

Anemia status is one of the public health problems at both global and Indonesia. The prevalence of anemia was found higher in the women of reproductive age. The prevalence in Special Region of Yogyakarta was even larger than the national average (34% vs 21.7%) for women of reproductive age group. Poor intake of micronutrient could be a major contributor to anemia. The aim of this study was to determine the difference of micronutrient intake among student with risk and no-risk anemia in the Alma Ata University. This cross-sectional study conducted from August to September 2020. Of 128 subjects was recruited and divided into two groups (64 risk anemia and 64 non-risk anemia group). The screening of anemia status was obtained by using self-assessment of clinical/physical questionnaires. Micronutrient intakes such as iron, folic acid, zinc, vitamin B6 and B12, cooper, and vitamin C were assessed by Semi Quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire (SQ-FFQ). Independent T-test was created to analyze the difference of micronutrient intake in risk and non-risk anemia groups. In this study, there were significant differences in the intake of micronutrients such as iron (p <0.001), folic acid (p <0.001), Zn (p <0.001), vitamin B6 (p <0.001), B12 (p = 0.008), and vitamin C (p <0.001) among students in risk and non-risk of anemia. However, there was no significant difference in Cu intake (p = 0.975). In conclusion, lower micronutrient intake among students could lead to have higher anemia risk. Further studies with larger samples are required to confirm these findings.
