Abstract

Uremic pruritus is one of the chronic renal failure patients’ complaints, which is an uncomfortable and itchy sensation with multifactorial causes. Peppermint complementary therapy is an essential oil with the main component of menthol (50-60%), which provides a cold sensation to the skin. The instrument used in this quasi-experimental study was demographic data and the 5-D itch scale questionnaire. The total sample was 98 participants. The intervention was carried out by administering topical peppermint essential oil. The results showed that the uremic pruritus scale decreased to a mild degree of 51.0%. After being tested by Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney statistical tests, the intervention group had a p-value of 0.000 <p = 0.05 and in the control group there was a p-value of 0.102 so there was an effect of giving peppermint aromatherapy in reducing uremic pruritus. Peppermint aromatherapy is safe to use and is easy to obtain so, therefore, it can be applied topically to improve coping strategies for patients who experience uremic pruritus.

Abstract

Adolescence is an unstable period which often makes teenagers fall into free sex. Free sex generally occurs not only because of adolescent’s desire or willingness, but also by the influence of environment and the insufficient and incorrect health information. This research was part of community service with quantitative quasi-experimental research type. The sample in this study was 300 teenagers in the city of Medan which then divided into intervention group (n=150) and control group (n=150). The intervention was health education about reproduction and sexual development in adolescents by involving counseling teachers, and the establishment of reproductive and sexual health counseling team in school. Statistical test was performed with Mann-Whitney. The results showed that health education was effective in increasing knowledge (p = 0,000) and attitudes (p =0,000) of students towards free sex behavior in Medan. Adolescent’s knowledge and attitudes toward sexual behavior can be improved through counseling and education. Health workers must be able to optimize their role in providing health education and counseling especially about the adolescent’s sexual development by involving the role of family and school.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe national and international scaled-accreditation in a hospital should implement Early Warning Score System (EWSS) as procedure to do early detection of any changing in condition which shows alarm, especially for patients. The data from RSUP H. Adam Malik Medan, revealed that of the 44 medical records, in the inpatiens wards, 46 % of them were are not accordance with the standardized. This research used cross sectional design which was aimed to analyze the influence of knowledge and work motivation on the implementation EWSS. The sample were 89 nurses who worked in the surgery department. The data were analyzed by using multiple linear regression analysis by applying the assumption of multicolliniarity, heteroscedasticity, and normality data. The result showed that the variables of knowledge and work motivation had positive influence on the implementation of EWSS (P-Value 0,00) which indicated that Y model = 0,236 X1+ 0,535 X2 in which Y was EWSS implementation, X1 was knowledge, and X2 was work motivation. The conclusion was that increase in knowledge and work motivation would be followed by the increase in EWSS implementation. It is recommended that the hospital management maximize the implementation of EWSS by increasing the level of knowledge and work motivation. Key Word: Knowledge, Work Motivation, EWSS

Abstract

Abstract Work stress on nurses is a common problem that often occurs in the world of work. Nurses who care for patients with mental disorders tend to experience higher stress than general nurses. This study aimed to determine the relationship between workload and environment and work stress of nurses. This study used a quantitative cross-sectional approach. This study amounted to 105 mental nurses who served in inpatient with accidental sampling. The results of this study found that the workload of 5 respondents (4.8%) with a light workload, 75 respondents (71.4%) moderate, and 25 respondents (23.8%) heavy. The results of the univariate analysis found 34 respondents (32.4%) who reported that their work environment was in the moderate category and 71 respondents (67.6%) were good. The results of the univariate analysis showed that 6 respondents (5.7%) experienced mild stress, 54 respondents (51.4%) had moderate stress, and 45 respondents (42.9%) experienced severe stress. The results of the bivariate analysis with the Gamma correlation test found a positive significant relationship with a very strong relationship strength (p <0.05, r = 0.916) where as many as 51 respondents (68.0%) experienced moderate workload with moderate work stress and were found a negative significant relationship with a strong relationship strength (p <0.05, r = -0.607) where as many as 42 respondents (59.2%) experienced moderate stress in a good work environment. Researchers suggest that the availability of nurses must be adjusted and the workload given must be adjusted to their capacity, while the work environment requires additional lighting to carry out activities optimally, healthy, safe, and comfortable. Abstract

The application of a patient safety culture such as reporting and recording patient safety incidents at Mitra Sejati Hospital has not been implemented well since most of its nurses do not comply with the rules such as they do not report the incidence since they think that it is not serious enough and they are afraid of reporting it to the management. The objective of the research was to analyze in the influence of individual characteristics and leadership style on nurses’ compliance with patient safety at Mitra Sejati Hospital. The research used explanatory method with cross sectional design. The population was 132 patients, and 57 of them were used as the samples. The data were gathered by using questionnaires and by using multiple linear regression tests at the significance level of 95%. The results showed that there were 64.9% of nurses who were less obedient in implementing a patient safety culture, while those who were obedient were 15.8%. Individual characteristic variables include attitude (p = 0.041) and leadership style variables (p = 0.029) have an effect on nurses' compliance with the application of patient safety culture. The dominant variable that has the most influence is leadership style with a coefficient value of β = 0.350, meaning that if the head of the room applies a leadership style it will result in an increase in nurse compliance with the application of patient safety culture by 0.350. The nurse's assessment of the headroom's leadership style that is most preferred is the participatory leadership style. It is recommended that the hospital provide training on patient safety to improve the attitude of nurses in realizing potential events or injuries that are more dangerous to patients, so that each head of the room can be a role model for implementing nurses to comply with a patient safety incident reporting culture.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the effect of family empowerment intervention on the self-care of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The research method used was quantitative with a Quasy Experimental Non-Equivalent Control Group Pretest-Postest Design. Respondents in this study were patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus totaling 70 respondents. Data were collected using the Summary of Diabetes Self Care Activities (SDSCA) questionnaire consisting of 14 question items. Data were analyzed using parametric tests (paired t-test and t-test for independent groups). The results of this study indicate a difference between the mean value of self-care in the intervention group and the control group after being given treatment with a p-value of 0.001 (t = -19,027; p-value = 0.001). In conclusion, family empowerment intervention affects self-care in DMT2 patients. Keywords: Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, Family Empowerment, Self Care
