Abstract

This study aims to determine the identification of acid-bases with natural indicators. This, is done because acid-base testing uses a lot of litmus paper. In dragon fruit extract and turmeric extract, there is a more concentrated color pigment content to determine the acid-base concentration. So we want to increase its sensitivity to detecting acid- bases. The method used in this study is experimental. The results of the study can be used to assist the public in knowing the benefits of dragon fruit and turmeric to detect acid-base solutions.

Abstract

Drug analysis in biological samples remains a significant challenge due to the complex matrix composition that can interfere with extraction and detection processes. The QuEChERS (Quick, Easy, Cheap, Effective, Rugged, and Safe) method, initially developed for pesticide residue analysis, has been increasingly adapted for forensic toxicology, particularly in drug extraction from biological matrices. This review explores various modifications of the QuEChERS method applied to blood, urine, and liver samples, focusing on the effectiveness of different solvents, buffer salts, and sorbents in enhancing extraction efficiency. Furthermore, it highlights current challenges such as matrix effects and the critical importance of method validation to ensure reliability and reproducibility. By analyzing recent developments and trends in QuEChERS applications, this review offers valuable insights into optimizing extraction protocols for forensic purposes. The findings aim to support the advancement of more efficient, robust, and accessible analytical techniques in forensic toxicology, ultimately contributing to more accurate and reliable drug detection in complex biological samples.

Abstract

Catfish (Clarias batrachus) is a freshwater fish that is cultivated commercially by Indonesian people. Catfish is the most widely cultivated fish by the community because it has various advantages such as fast growth rates, high adaptability to the environment such as stocking with high density per unit area of ponds and being able to live in aquatic environments that lack oxygen and has a good taste and high value. high nutrition. However, the presence of Edwardsiella tarda bacteria greatly affects the survival of catfish (Clarias gariepinus) because this bacteria attacks fish. This is a crucial problem because catfish have high economic value and are widely consumed and cultivated. One way that can be done to overcome this problem is by utilizing natural ingredients, namely garlic which is a natural plant that contains antibacterial properties. Garlic is one of the natural plants that contain active ingredients of sulfur compounds such as aliin, allicin, disulfide, trisulfide. This research method uses several articles related to the effect of soaking garlic extract (Allium Sativum) on the histology of catfish kidneys infected with Edwardsiella tarda bacteria and compares the differences between normal catfish kidneys and kidneys infected with Edwardsiella tarda bacteria and proves the content of garlic on catfish kidneys ( Clarias gariepinus) infected with bacteria (Edwardiella tarda)

Abstract

Sex determination is a crucial step in forensic investigations, particularly when skeletal remains are incomplete. This study aims to evaluate the accuracy of using finger bones as indicators of sex through a systematic review approach. The literature selection followed PRISMA guidelines, with data retrieved from PubMed and Google Scholar using relevant keywords. Out of 95 identified articles, only 10 met the inclusion criteria and were further analyzed. Findings indicate that the length and proportion of finger bones—especially the ring and little fingers—differ significantly between males and females. Classification accuracy based on phalangeal and metacarpal measurements ranged from 80% to 94%. Additionally, hormonal influences such as testosterone contribute to these morphological differences. These results support the effectiveness of finger bones as an alternative method for sex estimation, particularly when pelvis or skull bones are unavailable in forensic contexts.
