Abstract

A tourism route is a sequence of tourist attractions visited. Students are familiar with tour activities and often plan tourism routes to visit several tourist attractions. Students' experience and knowledge about tourism routes can be used as a context for teaching the rule of product. Therefore, this research aims to design a learning trajectory for the rule of product using the Indonesian Realistic Mathematics Education (PMRI) approach in the Kerinci nature tourism route context. The research method used is design research with a validation study type, which consists of three stages: preparation and design, teaching experiment, and retrospective analysis. The subjects involved in this research were 11 third-semester mathematics education students at a university in Jambi, Indonesia. The instruments include learning video recordings, student work results, field notes, and test sheets. The research results show that learning trajectories designed in the context of tourism routes can help students discover, understand, and use the rule of product in solving relevant mathematical problems. The learning tracjectory consists of four activities: making a list of Kerinci tourist attractions, determining the location of several tourist attractions on a sketch map, arranging tourist attractions in tourism routes, and solving problems regarding possible tourism routes. This research shows that the designed learning trajectory is vital in helping students discover and understand the rule of product and apply them to solving relevant problems.

Abstract

The aim of this assistance is to improve understanding and skills for students who have difficulty learning mathematics, especially in the material "Equations of Lines Through Two Points". The implementation of this community service research follows the activities of carrying out action research which consists of preparation or planning, implementation or evaluation. Mentoring was carried out at MTs S Modern Arafah for class VIII C students regarding the equation of a line through two points. Mentoring is carried out by 3 mentors, each mentor accompanies 2 students who are experiencing difficulties in learning mathematics. The results of mentoring show that students feel helped and can have a positive impact. This can be seen from the enthusiasm of students who always ask about the material and steps to solve problems that students don't understand so that it can foster students' enthusiasm for learning in mathematics learning.

Abstract

Students who have obstacles in learning mathematics often have difficulty in solving problems due to deficiency of concepts understanding, afraid of making mistakes and receiving revisions from teachers, and initially assume that mathematics is difficult. Mentoring was carried out in class VII of SMP Negeri 15 Kerinci on the material of One Variable Linear Equations. The mentoring team consisted of 3 mentors who were carried out at school and outside of school. The mentors provided assistance by re-explaining the material and parts that were difficult for students to understand and also helping students in doing assignments given by the teacher. With this mentoring, the difficulties experienced by students in learning mathematics can be reduced and students can understand the material clearly. As a result of the mentoring, students who had difficulty in addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and lacked understanding of reading questions and also students who did not like mathematics lessons were helped in understanding the material being taught. The mentoring team received a very good response from students and teachers, with the presence of the mentoring team students were willing to work on the questions given and learn to solve the questions

Abstract

Basically, there is no strategy that is suitable for all mathematics topics, so variations in mathematics learning strategies are needed. However, teachers often choose learning strategies or methods that are more practical for teachers even though they are not in accordance with the student-centred learning approach. Therefore, this study aims to describe teachers' considerations in choosing mathematics learning strategies and their implementation. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach involving two mathematics teachers who each teach at one of the state junior high schools (SMP) and one of the state Islamic junior high schools (MTs) in Sungai Penuh, Jambi as research subjects. The researchers conducted observations of the learning implementation, semi-structured interviews with teachers about considerations for choosing learning strategies, and documentation of learning devices. Data were analyzed through three stages, namely data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The data trustworthiness used the source triangulation method. The results of the study showed that the learning strategy used by teachers was direct instruction with a pattern of teacher explanations, sample questions, and exercises. Direct instruction was chosen for reasons of practicality and the limited choice of other learning strategies mastered by the teacher. The researcher encourages a comprehensive evaluation of the learning implementation by teachers as well as the provision of ongoing training to improve teacher competence.

Abstract

Abstract This study aims to determine the effect of the Model-Eliciting Activities (MEAs) approach towards the students’ mathematical communication skills. This research is a quasi-experimental study by the nonequivalent posttest-only control group design. This research population was the eighth-grade students in SMP Negeri 2 Sungai Penuh that consisted of seven groups. The sample in this study consisted of two groups, namely VIII C as an experimental group and VIII D as a control group selected by cluster random sampling technique. In the experimental group, the MEAs approach was done while the control group was done with conventional learning. The research instrument used to measure students’ mathematical communication skills was a subjective test. The data were analyzed using the independent t-test. The results of data analysis showed that there is an effect of MEAs approach towards the students’ mathematical communication skills. Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of Gallery of Learning with Geogebra as active learning strategies on students’ learning motivation. This research was a quantitative study with the one grup pretest-posttest design. The population of this study was all eight-grade students of SMP Negeri 27 Kerinci. The sample consisted of 27 students which selected by saturated sampling techniques. Student motivation data were obtained from motivation questionnaires that given before and after the application of the Gallery of Learning with Geogebra as active learning strategy. Data processing of student motivation was done by comparing students' motivation scores before and after treatmen by, using the t-test. The t-test results indicated that there was influence on the implementation of the active learning strategy of Gallery of Learning with Geogebra on students' learning motivation.

Abstract

This workshop aims to equip prospective mathematics teachers with the skills to explore numeracy problems in tourism contexts. The workshop is designed using a service learning approach and involves students from various universities across the Sumatra region. The core activities include identifying sequences of tourism activities, exploring numeracy problems embedded in each activity, and formulating context-based problems. The main output is a mini-project in the form of contextual open-ended math problems. The success of the workshop is measured through pretest and posttest comparisons, participant satisfaction surveys, and levels of active engagement. The results show that this approach effectively enhances students’ competence in designing mathematics instrumen based on local contexts.
