Abstract

Prospective teachers must possess strong knowledge of technology, pedagogy, and mathematical content to ensure optimal learning outcomes. Therefore, mathematics teacher candidates are equipped with knowledge of technology, pedagogy, and content through various courses. However, the effectiveness of these courses in enhancing Technological, Pedagogical, and Content Knowledge (TPACK) must be regularly assessed as part of the evaluation process for teacher education programs. This study aims to describe the TPACK achievement of second-year mathematics teacher candidates. The research is a survey study involving 18 second-year mathematics education students at a university in Jambi, Indonesia. A TPACK questionnaire comprising 7 components with a total of 35 items was used. Interviews with program coordinators were conducted to enrich the data on curriculum content designed to support students’ TPACK development. The results indicate that the students’ mastery of TPACK is not yet optimal. The university needs to further optimize TPACK mastery through courses or extracurricular activities during the remaining period of study.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The outbreak of the corona virus has had an impact on various sectors, especially the education sector. The application of online learning has been implemented in almost all schools in Indonesia. However, judging from the results of various studies and some experiences, the online learning process in Indonesia has previously been carried out well. Mathematical representation skills are needed so that students understand mathematical concepts well. This study aims to analyze the ability of mathematical representation in online learning. The method used is descriptive qualitative type. The instrument used is a mathematical representation ability test and interview guidelines. The data analysis technique used is the stages of data reduction, data display and making overall conclusions. Data analysis of test results was used to determine the level of students' mathematical representation abilities, while interviews were to strengthen test results and determine student learning constraints. Based on the results of the study, it was found that students' visual representations were more dominant than other types of representations. The students' mathematical visual representation ability is in the sufficient (moderate) category, while the students' symbolic representation ability is very poor and the students' verbal representation ability is in the poor category.

Abstract

A tourism route is a sequence of tourist attractions visited. Students are familiar with tour activities and often plan tourism routes to visit several tourist attractions. Students' experience and knowledge about tourism routes can be used as a context for teaching the rule of product. Therefore, this research aims to design a learning trajectory for the rule of product using the Indonesian Realistic Mathematics Education (PMRI) approach in the Kerinci nature tourism route context. The research method used is design research with a validation study type, which consists of three stages: preparation and design, teaching experiment, and retrospective analysis. The subjects involved in this research were 11 third-semester mathematics education students at a university in Jambi, Indonesia. The instruments include learning video recordings, student work results, field notes, and test sheets. The research results show that learning trajectories designed in the context of tourism routes can help students discover, understand, and use the rule of product in solving relevant mathematical problems. The learning tracjectory consists of four activities: making a list of Kerinci tourist attractions, determining the location of several tourist attractions on a sketch map, arranging tourist attractions in tourism routes, and solving problems regarding possible tourism routes. This research shows that the designed learning trajectory is vital in helping students discover and understand the rule of product and apply them to solving relevant problems.
