Abstract

This study aims to prove that papaya seed extract has the potential to improve muscle cell atrophy in diabetic conditions. Type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) animal model were made with conditions similar to type 2 DM in humans i.e. with long-term (56 days) high sugar (fructose) consumption. Then, the next 14 days were treated with papaya seed extract at the dose of 100, 200, and 300 mg/kg BW orally. Body weight and blood glucose levels were monitored throughout the study period. At the end of the study, histopathological examination of gastrocnemius skeletal muscle tissue was carried out using hematoxylin-eosin staining and measuring myocyte cell area. Results showed that there is a correlation between blood glucose levels with the area of muscle cells which explains that the decrease in blood glucose levels is in line with the increase in the area of muscle fiber cells. In the diabetic group and the treatment group the dose of 100 mg/kg BW has a smaller area, whereas in the treatment group the dose of 200 and 300 mg/kg BW has an area close to the area of the muscle cell in the normal group. This is supported by the results of measurements of the area of muscle fiber cells observed through cross sections and measured at the end of this study. The treatment group at the dose of 200 and 300 mg/kg BW did not have significant difference (P>0.05) compared to the normal group. It can be concluded that papaya seed extract therapy at the dose of 200 and 300 mg/kg BW on diabetic rats can reduce the fasting blood glucose levels so that it can ameliorate cell atrophy in the diabetic conditions.

Abstract

Penyimpanan madu akan dapat mempengaruhi mutu. Suhu penyimpanan untuk madu yang terbaik adalah 36 – 38 o C dengan kelembaban 75 – 78 persen. Dengan cara ini madu dapat tahan 2 – 4 minggu lamanya tanpa banyak mengalami penurunan mutu. Oleh karena itu, peneliti ingin mengetahui pengaruh suhu penyimpanan terhadap kualitas madu nektar karet berdasarkan keasaman, kadar air, dan kadar gula pereduksi. Keasaman diukur menggunakan metode titrasi asam basa, kadar air diukur secara gravimetri, dan kadar gula pereduksi diukur dengan metode Luff Schrool. Madu suhu ruang memiliki kadar keasaman rata-rata 45 ml NaOH 0,1N/kg dan madu suhu dingin kadar keasaman rata-rata 32 ml NaOH 0,1N/kg. Kadar air madu suhu ruang rata-rata 28,595% dan kadar air madu suhu dingin rata-rata 27,112%. kadar gula pereduksi, madu suhu ruang memiliki kadar gula pereduksi sebesar 51,625%, sedangkan pada madu suhu dingin memiliki kadar gula pereduksi sebesar 62,5%.

Abstract

Akrilamida merupakan zat karsinogenik yang terbentuk akibat proses pemanasan suhu tinggi dan kelembaban rendah pada makanan yang kaya akan karbohidrat. Akrilamida paling banyak ditemukan pada produk nabati olahan seperti kentang (kentang goreng dan keripik kentang), serealia (kukis dan roti) serta kopi. Penelitian ini dilakukan bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh waktu pemanggangan terhadap kadar akrilamida pada pisang raja uli (Musa paradisiaca L.). Penetapan kadar akrilamida dilakukan menggunakan metode High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) pada pisang raja uli yang dipanggang selama 20 menit, 25 menit, dan 30 menit dengan suhu 150ᵒC. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa kadar akrilamida pada kelompok kontrol (pisang tanpa perlakuan) yaitu sebesar 1,735 ppm, pada pemanggangan sampel pisang selama 20 menit sebesar 1,198 ppm, pada sampel pisang yang dipanggang selama 25 menit sebesar 2,276 ppm, pada sampel pisang yang dipanggang selama 30 menit sebesar 0,917 ppm. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa kadar akrilamida tertinggi terdapat pada pisang raja uli yang dipanggang selama 25 menit dengan nilai signifikansi P sebesar 0,312 yang menunjukkan bahwa tidak terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antar kelompok perlakuan waktu pemanggangan terhadap kadar akrilamida.

Abstract

Diabetes is a disease of metabolic disorders caused by poor production of insulin by the pancreas or due to the use of body insulin which is not maximal, causing interference. The main diabetes that often occurs in the community is type 1 and type 2 diabetes because of the influence of body insulin. Examination for detection is intended so that the public can find out about the presence of glucose in the urine so that the community can immediately recover faster, considering that if there is a glucose level in the urine, there is an increase in the level of glucose in the blood. The method used in this community service is to collect residents at the center, which is then carried out by examining the urine sample using a urine dysptic. Based on the results of examinations carried out on 62 people consisting of mothers and the elderly, it showed that there were 10 positive people or 19% of the total sample. This shows that early detection is important because there are still people who do not know the importance of early detection of disease in themselves, especially in the Kedung Pandan area.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease caused by the pancreas not being able to produce enough insulin so that glucose levels in the blood cannot be controlled. Symptoms of this disease are characterized by polyuria, polydipsia, polyphagia and elevated blood glucose levels. Diabetes mellitus is a non-communicable disease that ranks 7th in the world's cause of death and Indonesia is a country with diabetes which is ranked 4th in the world. Prevention and treatment of diabetes mellitus patients can be done through various efforts, one of which is traditional herbal medicine. Therefore, the community development team held a training event for preparation scientific herbs in the context of preventing diabetes mellitus for residents of Wonokromo Surabaya. The results showed that there was an increase in public understanding about the dangers of diabetes mellitus with an increase in the average value from 45% to 90% and an increase in skills in preparation scientific herbal medicine from 40% to 95%. So it can be concluded that this activity brings very good benefits for the residents of Wonokromo Surabaya.

Abstract

Pestisida merupakan racun yang sengaja dibuat oleh manusia untuk membunuh organisme pengganggu tanaman dan insekta penyebar penyakit. Organofosfat merupakan jenis pestisida yang paling banyak di gunakan di bidang pertanian. Paparan pestisida yang terlalu sering dapat menimbulkan berbagai masalah kesehatan. Biomarker yang paling sering dipakai dalam menentukan gejala keracunan pestisida adalah kadar kolinesterase. Oleh karena itu pada penelitian ini akan diteliti pengaruh lama paparan pestisida terhadap kolinesterase (ChE) dan transaminase (SGOT dan SGPT). Pemeriksaan kolinesterase dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode spektrofotometri menggunakan reagen thiol 5,5'-dithio-bis (2-nitro asam benzoat) (DTNB), sedangkan pemeriksaan SGOT dan SGPT dilakukan menggunakan photometer. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa tidak ada pengaruh antara lama paparan pestisida organofosfat dengan kadar SGOT, SGPT, dan kolinesterase. Hal ini disebabkan karena seluruh responden tertib dalam pemakaian APD selama bekerja.

Abstract

The action of heavy metals in inhibiting enzymes occurs due to interactions between proteins or enzymes that bind to sulfide groups such as disulfide (-S-S) and sulfhydryl (-SH) in enzymes. The sulfide group is able to bind heavy metals that enter the body and are bound in the blood, because heavy metals have a high affinity for sulfide groups. The bond becomes strong and stable, resulting in increased levels of chromium, cadmium and nickel in the body. This Literature Review study aims to determine the accumulation and dangers caused by exposure to heavy metals chromium (Cr), cadmium (Cd) and Nickel (Ni) in the human body. The literature review research method uses existing research journals in the Google Scholar and PubMed databases with PRISMA Flow guidelines, obtained 10 reference journals for information. The results of the review show that the dangers of exposure to heavy metals chromium (Cr), cadmium (Cd) and nickel (Ni) in the human body can cause toxic effects to the body including kidney failure, lung function, respiratory disorders, skin and cancer.

Abstract

Cancer treatment can be done with tumor surgery, radiotherapy, immunotherapy, and chemotherapy. These treatments effectively kill cancer cells but have side effects and are resistant to patients. Based on this, further research is needed related to cancer drugs based on herbal plants, one of which is by using curcumin from Curcuma longa or turmeric in the form of nanoparticles to increase bioavailability and solubility. Especially silver nanoparticles with a mixture of curcumin. The aim of this study was to determine the characterization and screening of candidate activities to be used as anticancer drugs from curcumin extract and silver nanoparticles (AgNO3) containing curcumin carried out solubility test, thin layer chromatography (TLC) analysis, UV-Vis spectrophotometer analysis, and morphological analysis with XRD. The results obtained in this study were curcumin extract insoluble in water while silver nanoparticles could dissolve in water. TLC analysis on chloroform mixture: ethanol Rf = 0,92 and Rf = 0,94; chloroform: hexane obtained Rf = 0,36; Rf = 0,36: Rf 0,38; Rf = 0,3. While chloroform: benzene: methanol eluent has no Rf value. UV-Vis spectra obtained a maximum absorbance of 4,267 at a wavelength of 290 nm. The morphological analysis of XRD silver nanoparticles containing curcumin was 17,45 nm. In conclusion, curcumin extract and silver curcumin nanoparticles have the potential as initial candidates for anticancer drugs.

Abstract

Hiperkolesterolemia merupakan suatu kondisi metabolisme yang ditandai dengan peningkatan kadar kolesterol plasma dan dapat memicu terjadinya perkembangan penyakit kardiovaskular. Kasus hiperkolesterolemia, terus meningkat dari tahun ke tahun dan diperparah oleh kebiasaan dan gaya hidup yang buruk seperti merokok, kurang berolahraga, kurang konsumsi sayur dan buah, konsumsi alkohol dan obesitas. Berdasarkan survei tim pengabdian menunjukkan bahwa masyarakat penderita hiperkolesterol banyak yang mengkonsumsi obat sintetik dan masih jarang menggunakan terapi herbal. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat bertujuan untuk mengedukasi masyarakat Desa Wedoroanom Gresik, melalui sosialisasi tentang manfaat madu yang telah difermentasi dengan bawang putih tunggal dan pelatihan pembuatan fermentasi madu-bawang tunggal untuk pencegahan penyakit kolesterol. Kegiatan ini diawali dengan tahap pra kegiatan yang meliputi survei, focus discussion group (FGD), dan persiapan dengan mitra, dilanjutkan dengan tahap pelaksanaan sosialisasi dan pelatihan, kemudian pada tahap pasca kegiatan dilakukan proses evaluasi kegiatan melalui wawancara dan kuisioner. Berdasarkan hasil evaluasi menunjukkan bahwa pemahaman masyarakat mengenai wawasan khasiat madu yang di fermentasi menggunakan bawang tunggal meningkat sebanyak 52%, sedangkan keterampilan masyarakat dalam membuat fermentasi madu-bawang putih tunggal meningkat sebanyak 49%. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat peningkatan pemahaman dan keterampilan masyarakat dalam mengaplikasikan teknologi fermentasi pada madu menggunakan bawang putih tunggal untuk menurunkan kadar kolesterol.
