Abstract

This research was motivated by the large potential of dry leaf waste in the campus environment of the University of North Sumatra and the awareness of the importance of appropriate innovation in the use of dry leaf waste as an environmentally friendly alternative fuel. The aim of this research was to determine the potential of leaf waste in the campus environment as a raw material for making environmentally friendly charcoal briquettes. The research method was observation, conducted in the campus environment of the University of North Sumatra, followed by calculating the amount of leaf waste produced per day, and testing continued with the production of dry leaf briquettes. The test results of the three combustions with different mixtures of raw materials in each combustion resulted in solid dry leaf briquettes that could ignite well. This study produced briquettes with proximate and ultimate tests that met SNI No.01-6235-2000 standards with a moisture content test of 4.35%, ash content test of 5.65%, carbon content test of 78.68%, calorific value of 6115 cal/g, and a burning rate of 1.5 grams/minute. Briquettes that meet SNI standards can become an environmentally friendly alternative energy source, a source of livelihood, and will certainly have a positive impact on waste management on the campus of the University of North Sumatra.

Abstract

Putri Kalingga [Princess Kalingga] is one of the literary works that deals with feminist education issues, especially in the Ancient Mataram Era (7th century). The novel revolves around Shima, the daughter of the Kalingga Kingdom who received religious education at Sutha Vihara and martial arts at Kalingga Kingdom. This research aims to understand the educational process that Shima in studying Buddhism, and various kinds of knowledge and skills in playing with weapons. Qualitative feminist methods are used to analysed data from the novel Putri Kalingga by Wibawa Wibidharma (2022). The results showed that feminist education had been implemented in the Kingdom of Kalingga (7th century). There were two models of feminist education in the Kalingga Kingdom era, namely private education and education in dormitories (vihara). Private education was given by parents (rishi and mpu) to their daughters, which included various kinds of knowledge, using weapons and self-defense. In the dormitory, women were trained to become nuns, studying religion (Buddhism), law, leadership and trade, as well as self-defense. This education prepares women to play important roles in society.

Abstract

In the digital era, social media serves not only as a medium for communication and entertainment but also as a potential tool for developing academic competencies such as critical reading. This study aims to examine the relationship between social media use and critical thinking ability in relation to university students’ critical reading skills in Yogyakarta. Employing a quantitative method with a correlational approach, the research involved a sample of 40 students selected through stratified random sampling. Data were gathered using questionnaires, critical thinking tests, and critical reading assessments, all validated through Cronbach’s Alpha. The findings revealed a significant correlation among social media use, critical thinking ability, and critical reading skills. Regression analysis indicated that critical thinking ability had a significant effect on critical reading skills, whereas the influence of social media use was less pronounced. However, simultaneous analysis demonstrated that social media use and critical thinking ability together contributed to the improvement of critical reading skills. These results highlight the dual role of social media as both a facilitator and a distraction in academic contexts. Educators are therefore encouraged to incorporate media literacy and critical thinking training to optimize the positive impact of social media on students’ learning processes.

Abstract

Pembelajaran tata bahasa masih kurang mendapat perhatian dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengeksplorasi strategi pembelajaran tata bahasa dalam buku teks Bahasa Indonesia SMP terbitan Kemdikbudristek. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode analisis konten dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Data berupa penyajian materi, cakupan materi, dan level pertanyaan berdasarkan taksonomi Bloom revisi. Data dikumpulkan melalui teknik simak dan catat, serta dianalisis menggunakan model Miles, Huberman, dan Saldana. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penyajian materi didominasi oleh model deduktif, dengan cakupan materi kebahasaan yang cukup variatif namun masih berfokus pada struktur kalimat. Level pertanyaan didominasi keterampilan berpikir tingkat rendah (LOTS), terutama C2, meskipun beberapa pertanyaan HOTS sudah disertakan. Temuan ini menunjukkan perlunya keseimbangan antara pendekatan deduktif dan induktif, variasi materi kebahasaan, serta peningkatan pertanyaan HOTS untuk mendukung kompetensi komunikatif dan berpikir kritis siswa.

Abstract

The integration of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) in language education demands a fundamental redefinition of the construct of writing assessment. A major challenge currently is the inability of conventional rubrics—which emphasize mechanical accuracy and surface structure—to distinguish between students' cognitive competence and algorithmic sophistication. This article aims to develop a conceptual framework and prototype design of a new analytical rubric for the assessment of argumentative texts that explicitly integrates the AI ​​literacy dimension. Using a conceptual study method, this research synthesizes key references including language assessment theory, the Toulmin argumentation model, and the concept of distributed agency. This research proposes a paradigm shift in assessment from product-oriented to process-oriented through a "co-creation" model. The main result of this research is the design of an analytical rubric with four main dimensions and their proposed weights: (1) Originality and Idea Synthesis (35%), (2) Critical Evaluation of AI Sources and Outputs (30%), (3) Argumentation Logic (25%), and (4) Mechanics (10%), coupled with the prerequisite of Ethical Transparency. This framework not only addresses the issue of plagiarism but is also designed to encourage self-regulated learning strategies. These findings are expected to serve as a reference for educators and policymakers in designing an assessment ecosystem that is valid, ethical, and capable of fostering critical thinking in students in an era of technological disruption.

Abstract

Salah satu kompetensi yang sangat urgen_ dan berhubungan langsung dengan para siswa sebagai generasi calon agen perubahan_ adalah kompetensi pedagogik khususnya dalam hal bagaimana menyelenggarakan pembelajaran yang efektif. Hal ini dimulai dengan penguasaan kemampuan menyiapkan rencana pembelajaran yang baik. Hal ini menjadi persoalan para guru yaitu baagaimana menyiapkan modul ajar yang sesuai dengan isu pendidikan terkini beserta kondisi peserta didik yang mereka hadapi. MGMP Bahasa Indonesia Madrasah Tsanawiyah Kabupaten Kebumen bersama tim pengabdian berperan dalam mengatasi permasalahan tersebut dengan mengadakan pelatihan penulisan modul ajar bagi para guru Bahasa Indonesia. Program ini terbagi dalam beberapa kegiatan yaitu (1) penyampaian materi dan diskusi yang dilaksanaan secara daring pada 11 s.d. 13 Juli 2025, (2) Praktik Mandiri; (3) pendampingan dilaksanakan secara daring yaitu pada 25 Jul1 2025 dan 1 Agustus 2025; dan (4) Refleksi. Indikator kebehasilan kegiatan ini dapat dilihat secara proses yaitu kegiatan terlaksananya sesuai dengan rencana dan secara hasil yaitu tersusunnya modul ajar yang baik dari para guru. Secara umum kegiatan berlangsung dengan lancar sesuai dengan jadwal yang disepakati. Adapun hambatan terjadi pada saat daring yaitu faktor sinyal yang menyebabkan keikutsertaan peserta kurang maksimal.

Abstract

Purpose – This study aims to explore patterns of Islamic religious parenting within Muslim families in Yogyakarta, focusing on three typologies of parental involvement intensive, supplemental, and laissez-faire and their impact on children's spiritual development. The study seeks to contribute to understanding how different parenting styles influence children's religious formation and spiritual identity. Design/methods/approach – A qualitative case study design was employed, using semi-structured interviews and non-participant observations as the primary data collection methods. Five purposively selected parents were involved in the study, providing insights into their approaches to religious education within the family context. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis to identify key patterns and themes. Findings – The study found that intensive parenting promotes a deep internalization of religious values through consistent rituals, modeling, and emotional engagement. In contrast, supplemental parenting offers situational reinforcement but lacks routine and depth. The laissez-faire model, which emphasizes autonomy, often results in fragmented or superficial religious formation due to minimal parental involvement. These findings highlight the crucial role of home-based religious education in shaping a child’s spiritual identity. Research implications/limitations – The study’s limitations include its small, localized sample, which may not be generalizable to broader contexts, and the absence of children’s perspectives, which could provide a more comprehensive view of religious parenting dynamics. The findings suggest the need for community-driven programs to enhance parents’ religious and pedagogical competencies. Originality/value – This research provides valuable insights into the diverse ways in which Muslim parents in Yogyakarta engage with religious education, with implications for improving parental involvement in children's spiritual development. Future research should explore broader demographics and adopt longitudinal designs to better understand the evolving nature of religious parenting.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect of Place-Based Education on descriptive writing skills through the mediating role of Psycho-Indigenous, which includes emotional attachment to place and cultural perception. The study used a quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest control group model within an explanatory sequential mixed methods framework. The study population comprised all ten-grade students at MAN 2 Padang, and a sample of 72 students was selected using cluster convenience sampling techniques and divided into an experimental group (36 students) and a control group (36 students). The research instruments included a descriptive writing test with an analytical rubric, a place attachment scale, a psycho-indigenous reflection instrument, and a semi-structured interview guide. Data were collected through a pretest, six-week intervention, posttest, and interviews. Quantitative data were analyzed using a paired-sample t-test, independent-sample t-test, and multiple regression analysis to test mediation, whereas qualitative data were analyzed using thematic analysis techniques. The results showed that Place-Based Education significantly improved descriptive writing skills with a very large effect (Cohen's d = 1.64). Regression analysis proved that emotional attachment and cultural perception acted as partial mediators, with an increase in R² from 0.37 to 0.56. Qualitative findings revealed that direct experience with a place enriched sensory details, integrated cultural meanings, and encouraged the internalization of experiences before writing. This study concluded that Place-Based Education improved the quality of descriptive writing through the internalization of emotional and cultural spatial experiences.

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengungkapkan kesenjangan antara konsep ideal asesmen diagnostik dalam kurikulum baru dengan praktik di lapangan, khususnya pada pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia di SMA N 1 Mlati dan SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Seyegan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji bagaimana guru memahami dan menerapkan asesmen diagnostik, seberapa baik hasilnya dimanfaatkan untuk perencanaan dan diferensiasi pembelajaran, serta mengidentifikasi kesenjangan dan dampaknya pada pengembangan literasi siswa. Metode kualitatif deskriptif digunakan melalui wawancara semiterstruktur dengan enam partisipan (guru Bahasa Indonesia, wakil kepala sekolah kurikulum, dan guru BK dari kedua sekolah) serta studi dokumen seperti modul ajar dan instrumen asesmen, dilakukan pada November 2025. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa asesmen diagnostik sering kali hanya pretest sederhana yang berfokus pada aspek kognitif, tanpa integrasi kuat elemen nonkognitif seperti motivasi dan sikap sehingga diferensiasi pembelajaran kurang efektif dan siswa heterogen tidak mendapat pengalaman belajar yang sesuai. Hambatan utama meliputi kurangnya pelatihan guru, beban administrasi, dan komunikasi antarpihak yang membuat hasil asesmen jarang dimanfaatkan maksimal. Ini berdampak pada pengembangan literasi Bahasa Indonesia yang belum sepenuhnya mendalam, meski ada upaya fleksibel di salah satu sekolah. Penelitian ini memberikan gambaran empiris tentang tantangan implementasi kurikulum baru di konteks sekolah menengah, yang bisa jadi dasar untuk perbaikan praktik pendidikan.
