Abstract

Despite the central role of teachers in fostering students’ scientific literacy, assessment instruments targeting in-service science teachers remain limited. This study aimed to develop and examine the preliminary quality of a scientific literacy instrument for junior high school science teachers, informed by OECD documents outlining the direction of the PISA 2025. A design-based research approach was employed using Tessmer’s formative evaluation model, encompassing iterative stages of preliminary analysis to pilot field test. The instrument comprised nine context-rich stimuli and 25 items across multiple formats designed to elicit scientific reasoning and decision-making in real-world contexts. Expert validation produced a Mean Expert Score of 4.67, while teacher readability evaluation yielded a Mean Readability Score of 4.29, indicating strong content representation and clarity. Pilot psychometric analysis showed a balanced distribution of item difficulty (32% easy, 40% moderate, and 28% difficult), and item-level validity and discrimination indices provided diagnostic evidence for refinement. Pilot psychometric analysis indicated that the instrument’s reliability remains preliminary and highlights the need for further refinement through larger-scale field testing. Overall, this study contributes a forward-looking assessment instrument that supports formative evaluation of teachers’ scientific literacy and provides a robust foundation for subsequent large-scale validation aligned with emerging international assessment orientations.

Abstract

Arabica coffee seedlings grown on Ultisols often experience limited growth due to low levels of organic matter and nutrient deficiencies, presenting a major challenge for nursery productivity in Central Sulawesi. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of organic matter derived from Paitan (Tithonia diversifolia) in improving the growth performance of Coffea arabica seedlings. A Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was employed using five compost dosages (0, 5, 10, 15, and 20 tons/ha equivalent) with four replications. Growth parameters—including germination time, plant height, stem girth, leaf number, leaf area, biomass accumulation, and relative growth rate—were observed over 17 weeks. Soil chemical properties were analyzed to assess changes in fertility. Data were processed using ANOVA followed by an HSD test at the 5% significance level. The results showed that compost substantially improved plant height, stem diameter, leaf number, shoot and root dry weight, and relative growth rate, while germination time, leaf area, and root length remained unaffected. Soil analysis indicated increases in organic carbon, nitrogen, potassium, and cation exchange capacity, demonstrating enhanced nutrient availability. The study concludes that Paitan compost, particularly at 13–15 g per polybag, is an effective organic amendment that improves seedling vigor and offers a sustainable alternative to chemical fertilizers for nursery management on Ultisols.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of infrastructure and economic factors including accessibility, construction, electricity availability, land area, and Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) on smallholder palm oil production in Muko-Muko Regency, Bengkulu Province. Using secondary data from 2005 to 2020 obtained from the Central Bureau of Statistics, the research employs multiple linear regression analysis based on the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) method. The F-test results indicate that the five independent variables collectively have a significant effect on palm oil production (F = 4.00; Sig. 0.029), confirming that the model is statistically valid in explaining production variation. However, partial t-tests reveal that accessibility, construction, electricity, land area, and GRDP do not individually exhibit significant effects. These findings suggest that production performance is not driven by a single factor but rather shaped by the combined interaction of infrastructure conditions and regional economic dynamics. The discussion highlights that inconsistent infrastructure development, declining land area, and limited technological adoption among smallholders contribute to suboptimal production despite rising electrification and economic growth. Overall, the study underscores the importance of integrated infrastructure development, effective land-use planning, and technological support for smallholders to sustainably enhance palm oil productivity and strengthen regional economic resilience.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the content and construct validity of the Ethnoscience–Project-Based Learning (E-PjBL) model for biology education in higher education. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach guided by Nieveen’s educational design framework, focusing on the initial validation stage of model development. The validation process involved six expert validators with expertise in biology education, ethnoscience, instructional model development, and educational research. Research instruments consisted of content validity and construct validity validation sheets using a five-point Likert scale. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative analysis by calculating mean validity scores and inter-rater reliability using the percentage of agreement method. The results of the study indicate that: (1) the content validity of the E-PjBL model is categorized as very valid, with an overall mean score of 4.97, indicating that the model is developed based on actual learning needs and supported by state-of-the-art theoretical and empirical foundations; (2) the construct validity of the E-PjBL model is also classified as very valid, with an overall mean score of 4.91, demonstrating strong internal consistency among model components, including instructional syntax, learning objectives and impacts, as well as the learning environment and social system. These findings provide empirical evidence that the E-PjBL model is conceptually sound and theoretically feasible for further testing at the stages of practicality and effectiveness in higher education biology learning

Abstract

This study addresses the need for culturally responsive science learning in elementary teacher education by developing and empirically examining Affiliation–Interpersonal Skills (AKI), comprising affiliation motivation and interpersonal skills, within an ethnoscience learning context. Using a cross-sectional design, the study involved 50 prospective elementary teachers from a public university in Papua, Indonesia, most of whom were from disadvantaged, frontier, and outermost areas. Content validity was evaluated by five experts using the Content Validity Index, while item performance and internal consistency were examined through descriptive statistics, corrected item–total correlations, and reliability analysis. The results showed that the AKI instrument demonstrated strong content validity (most items I-CVI ≥ 0.78; S-CVI/Ave ≥ 0.90) and satisfactory reliability (subscale and total coefficients ≥ 0.70). Empirically, participants exhibited generally moderate to high affiliation motivation, reflecting a strong tendency toward collaboration and social connectedness, while interpersonal skills varied across individuals, particularly in empathic communication and conflict management. Based on these patterns, three AKI profiles were identified, indicating differentiated training needs in ethnoscience-based science learning. These findings suggest that AKI is a measurable and meaningful construct for mapping prospective teachers’ social–interpersonal readiness and for informing targeted interventions to strengthen culturally responsive science instruction.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a geography literacy-based learning model in an effort to build spatial intelligence in junior high school students. The model was developed using the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) procedure. The analysis stage found that teachers and students needed an innovative model that could connect geographical concepts with the surrounding environment. The design stage produced model tools in the form of syntax, lesson plans, student worksheets, and assessment instruments that were validated by experts with an average score of 88% (highly valid category). In the development stage, a limited trial involving 25 students showed an increase in student engagement from 62% to 82%. The implementation stage involved experiments in two classes, where the experimental class used the geographic literacy model and the control class used conventional methods. The posttest results showed that the average spatial intelligence of students in the experimental class reached 82.6 (high category), higher than the control class at 74.1 (medium category), with a significant difference (p < 0.05). The evaluation showed a 16% increase in geographic literacy skills and an 18% increase in spatial intelligence, as well as positive responses from teachers regarding the practicality of the model. These results confirm that the geography literacy-based learning model is valid, practical, and effective in improving the spatial intelligence of junior high school students.

Abstract

Histopathological subtypes of basal cell carcinoma (BCC) help determine prognosis and guide management. This study aimed to describe and compare the clinical and histopathological characteristics of aggressive and nonaggressive BCC. An observational descriptive study was conducted on 26 patients with biopsy-proven BCC. Hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) –stained sections were reviewed by an experienced pathologist. The nonaggressive group included nodular and superficial BCC, while the aggressive group included infiltrative and morpheaform BCC. Clinical and demographic data were recorded, and representative images were selected. Of the 26 cases, 13 were classified as aggressive and 13 as nonaggressive BCC. Female predominance was observed in both groups (61.54% vs. 69.24%). The mean age was 62.08 years in the aggressive group and 69.23 years in the nonaggressive group. Lesions were most frequently located in the nasal and zygomatic regions. The nodular subtype predominated among nonaggressive BCC (76.92%), while infiltrative (53.85%) and morpheaform (46.15%) subtypes were most common in the aggressive group. Histologically, nonaggressive subtypes exhibited well-circumscribed basaloid nests with palisading, whereas aggressive subtypes showed irregular cords within desmoplastic stroma and ill-defined margins. Histopathological examination remains the gold standard for differentiating aggressive from nonaggressive BCC, providing essential guidance for surgical planning and recurrence prevention.

Abstract

This research aims to develop a chemistry teaching module on chemical bonding based on the STEM approach integrated with Artificial Intelligence (AI) to improve students’ critical thinking skills. The study employs a Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The development stages include needs analysis, module design, expert validation, limited trials, and classroom implementation. The module integrates STEM-based learning with AI features such as interactive simulations, adaptive exercises with instant feedback, and chatbot explanations. The validation results show that the module is categorized as valid to very valid with an average score of 3.36–3.80. Limited trials indicate very positive teacher responses and 93.14% of students agreed that the module was effective. Learning outcomes demonstrate that class mastery exceeded 80%, with individual minimum scores above 75. The N-Gain score reached 74.72% in the high category, and the t-test showed a significant difference (p < 0.05) between pretest and posttest. These findings conclude that the developed STEM-AI integrated module is valid, practical, and effective for improving students’ critical thinking skills in learning chemical bonding.

Abstract

Fantasy hair styling in vocational cosmetology is commonly treated as a tacit craft activity, leaving limited evidence that material and geometry choices lead to ergonomic and stable designs. This study aimed to develop and validate craft-based support frames for fantasy buns while making materials-science and basic biomechanics concepts explicit. Using a 4D Research and Development model (Define–Design–Develop–Disseminate), undergraduate cosmetology students produced three frame variants (foam, thin wire, and polymer mesh). Product quality was evaluated by three cosmetology/beauty-education experts using a 1–5 Likert rubric covering aesthetics (neatness, proportion, creativity, harmony) and ergonomics (comfort, lightweight, ease of application/removal, positional stability). Three models conducted short wear-and-movement trials (standing, walking, head turns). Quantitative scores were converted to percentages and categorized; expert comments were analyzed thematically. Aesthetic performance averaged 87% (Very Good: neatness 90%, proportion 85%, creativity 88%, harmony 85%). Ergonomic performance averaged 83% (Very Good: comfort 85%, lightweight 82%, ease 80% [Good], stability 85%), with frame weights ranging from ~500 to 2,000 g. These results indicate that craft-based frames can produce visually coherent and ergonomically acceptable fantasy buns while supporting concept-based reasoning; future work should strengthen durability and application techniques and extend trials to longer wear durations.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop an electronic student worksheet (e-LKM) based on the case study method for the Multicultural Education course, focusing on multicultural education issues in Indonesia. The study was conducted due to students’ difficulties in understanding the material caused by limited interactive and accessible learning resources. This research employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the 4D development model, consisting of define, design, develop, and disseminate stages. The developed e-LKM includes instructional materials, contextual case studies, videos, supporting articles, and higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) questions at the C4 and C5 levels. Canva and Flip PDF Professional were used to support interactivity and visual appeal. The feasibility of the e-LKM was evaluated through validation by subject-matter experts and media experts, assessments by the course lecturer, and student responses. The validation results indicated that the case study–based e-LKM was categorized as highly feasible in terms of content quality, language, visual design, and interactivity. Student responses also showed positive perceptions of accessibility, visual attractiveness, and the effectiveness of the e-LKM in enhancing understanding and learning engagement. Therefore, the case study–based e-LKM is suitable for use as an alternative learning resource in Multicultural Education.
