Abstract

The Merdeka Curriculum aims to shape students to be faithful, virtuous, creative, and possess character aligned with Pancasila values. Mathematics, as a fundamental subject, plays an important role in training logical, critical, and creative thinking skills. One of the key topics taught in eighth grade is the Pythagorean Theorem, which has many real-life applications and requires strong mathematical reasoning skills. Observations at SMP Negeri 1 Siwalan revealed that students’ mathematical reasoning abilities remain low, with an average daily score of only 50%. This condition is influenced by the use of conventional learning methods, lack of active participation, and low student motivation. Therefore, an innovative learning model is needed, such as CORE (Connecting, Organizing, Reflecting, Extending). This study aims to determine the differences in mathematical reasoning ability between students taught using the CORE model and those taught through conventional methods, to describe students’ responses toward the CORE model, and to examine its influence on learning outcomes. The research employed a quasi-experimental method with a Posttest-Only Design with Nonequivalent Groups, involving two eighth-grade classes at SMP Negeri 1 Siwalan, each consisting of 32 students. Research instruments included essay tests and non-test methods (observation and interviews), with prior validity and reliability testing. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS version 25. The results showed a significant improvement in the experimental class compared to the control class. Moreover, students responded very positively to the CORE model, as it enhanced motivation, activeness, and provided more meaningful learning experiences in the Pythagorean Theorem topic.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of implementing the Think Pair Share (TPS) cooperative learning model on elementary school students' learning outcomes. The background of this study is based on the importance of implementing learning strategies that can increase students' active involvement in the learning process so that learning outcomes can be more optimal. The research method used was a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group design. The research subjects consisted of two classes, namely the experimental class given treatment using the TPS learning model and the control class using conventional learning. The results of data analysis showed that the initial abilities (pretest) of students in the experimental class and the control class were relatively the same, with an average score of 61.50 in the experimental class and 60.75 in the control class. The t-test on the pretest scores showed no significant difference between the two classes (sig. = 0.749 > 0.05), so it can be concluded that students' initial abilities were in a balanced condition. After being given treatment, the posttest results showed a significant difference. The experimental class obtained an average score of 81.20, higher than the control class with an average of 71.40. The t-test results also confirmed a significant difference (t count = 4.512 > t table = 2.024; sig. = 0.000). Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the implementation of the Think Pair Share (TPS) cooperative learning model has a positive and significant effect on student learning outcomes. This model is able to increase student interaction, cooperation, and understanding, making it more effective than conventional learning.

Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze the basic teaching skills of english teachers at SDN Tegal Besar 2. The research was motivated by the importance of pedagogical competence as mandated by the Teacher and Lecturer Law, particularly the ability to apply eight components of basic teaching skills. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, involving observation, interviews, and documentation with english teachers of grades IVa, IVb, Va, Vb, VIa, VIb. Data validity was through triangulation of techniques and sources. The results showed that teachers have generally implemented the eight components of basic teaching skills—opening and closing lessons, explaining, questioning, variation, guiding discussions, reinforcement, classroom management, and evaluation—quite well. The use of concrete methods, educational games, and digital media such as Quizzis and Wordwall contributed positively to students’ motivation and engagement. But in stating learning objectives, variation in activities has not been implemented optimally. Overall, the study concludes that basic teaching skills significantly influence the effectiveness of english learning in elementary schools, and teachers are encouraged to strengthen vocabulary strategies, consistently communicate learning goals, and develop more innovative teaching methods to enhance student learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the types of errors frequently made by second-grade students of SDN Keroncong 1 in using capital letters and punctuation when writing. Based on initial observations, many students still write without paying attention to correct writing rules, such as capitalizing at the beginning of a sentence or in people's names, and frequently skipping punctuation marks such as periods and commas. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques including written tests, observations, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that most students were inconsistent in their use of capital letters and punctuation, especially in simple sentences. Influencing factors included a lack of understanding of spelling rules, limited practice in correct writing, and suboptimal teaching strategies in the classroom. These findings are expected to assist teachers in evaluating writing instruction and placing greater emphasis on spelling and punctuation, so that students' writing skills gradually improve.
