Abstract

The enforcement of human rights (HAM) is a crucial component of the global legal system, ensuring justice for victims of human rights violations. International and national human rights courts differ in their strengths, weaknesses, and effectiveness. This study aims to compare the two mechanisms, using case studies of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and several national systems. The ICC has the authority to handle serious violations such as genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity. Its strengths lie in its independence and cross-border reach, but it is hampered by political support and limited resources. In contrast, national courts are more responsive to local conditions, but are often hampered by political interference, weak institutional capacity, and legal inconsistencies. This undermines public trust in national systems. The study concludes that collaboration between international and national courts is crucial for strengthening human rights enforcement. Strengthening coordination, legal harmonization, and enhancing the capacity of national institutions are necessary for the effective implementation of international decisions. Global political support is also a determining factor in increasing the effectiveness of human rights courts and providing justice for victims of violations.

Abstract

As times change, many students today are less familiar with the local wisdom of their respective cultures. Therefore, it is crucial in the world of education to support students' ability to understand their local wisdom by connecting it to what they learn in school. This is especially important for instilling an understanding of their region's local wisdom from a young age. Students' ability to understand learning concepts varies from one student to another. Factors contributing to learning difficulties include two types: internal factors such as motivation and lack of interest in learning, and external factors such as teaching methods and environment, which can hinder students from achieving maximum results. This study aims to analyze students' learning difficulties in understanding the material about cattle density in Indonesian language learning for fourth-grade students at SDN Proppo 1. This research uses data collection techniques including interviews, observation, and documentation. The subjects in this study are the fourth-grade homeroom teachers. The research outputs include a proposal, progress and final reports for MBKM, a logbook, a poster, and a draft scientific article.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of differentiated learning strategies in improving students’ learning motivation in Physical Education (PJOK) classes. The research was conducted in response to low student motivation, which was reflected in limited engagement, low enthusiasm, and insufficient persistence during learning activities. This study employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest model involving 35 eleventh-grade students of SMK Negeri 1 Jenangan Ponorogo. A motivation questionnaire measuring interest, enthusiasm, persistence, and active engagement was used as the research instrument. Data were analyzed using the paired sample t-test after confirming normal distribution. The results showed an increase in the average motivation score from 48.06 (71.75%) in the pretest to 56.91 (75.88%) in the posttest. The paired sample t-test revealed a significance value of 0.001 < 0.05, indicating a statistically significant difference between pretest and posttest motivation scores. These findings demonstrate that differentiated learning strategies are effective in enhancing students’ learning motivation in PJOK lessons.

Abstract

Human Rights (HAM) are a set of fundamental rights inherent in every human being from birth as a gift from God Almighty and cannot be revoked by anyone. This study aims to explain the basic concepts, history, and characteristics of human rights and examine their implementation in the local context in Kupang City, East Nusa Tenggara. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a normative-empirical approach, through literature review, policy document analysis, and secondary data from reports from the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM), BPS, SUAKA, and SIMFONI-PPA. The results show that normatively, Indonesia has a comprehensive human rights legal framework through the 1945 Constitution, Law No. 39 of 1999, and various derivative regulations. However, implementation at the regional level still faces significant challenges, particularly in terms of the gap between legal norms and practice in the field. Two cases that have come to the fore in Kupang City are the issue of statelessness among Afghan refugees and gender discrimination against female workers in the public sector. These two phenomena reflect the lack of synchronization between national policies and the capacity of regional implementers. This research emphasizes the importance of strengthening local context-based human rights protection through synergy between local governments, human rights institutions, and civil society to realize more substantive justice and humanity in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of human rights (HR) in eliminating gender discrimination and the challenges faced in achieving gender equality in Kupang City. Instances of discrimination against women in this area are still evident in the division of labor, promotion opportunities, and access to training, which generally favor men. The research employs a qualitative approach using in-depth interviews, observation, and document analysis, while data are analyzed thematically to identify patterns of discrimination. The findings reveal that structural factors such as suboptimal regulations, cultural factors including patriarchy and customary norms, and economic factors that place women in vulnerable positions are the main causes of persistent inequality. Gender mainstreaming programs in Kupang remain largely temporary projects, not integrated into routine budgets, and have yet to involve key actors such as traditional and religious leaders, thus limiting their social impact. The study also found that psychological barriers discourage some women from reporting discrimination due to fear of being disbelieved or facing negative reactions in the workplace. The conclusion emphasizes that gender equality policies in Kupang require a more comprehensive human rights-based reinforcement, encompassing institutional consistency, cultural transformation, and active participation from multiple stakeholders to minimize discrimination and achieve sustainable gender equality.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the concept of khalifah (vicegerent) and amanah (trust) in the Qur’an as the theological foundation for human responsibility in managing and preserving the natural environment. The current ecological crisis reflects human failure to fulfill their divine duty as the stewards of the earth. Using a qualitative approach through library research, this study analyzes Qur’anic verses related to environmental ethics, including Surah Al-Baqarah [2]:30, Al-An‘am [6]:165, Al-A‘raf [7]:56, Ar-Rum [30]:41, and Al-Ahzab [33]:72. Data were obtained from classical and contemporary exegeses, as well as relevant journal articles. The findings indicate that Islam places humans as trustees of Allah to maintain balance (mizan) and prosperity on earth, emphasizing moral, spiritual, and social values in environmental management. The study concludes that by internalizing the Qur’anic concepts of khalifah and amanah, Muslims can develop ecological awareness and environmental ethics rooted in faith, thus contributing to sustainable development based on spiritual values. Keywords: Khalifah, Amanah, Environment.

Abstract

Human Rights Education (HRE) plays an important role in shaping learners who are civilized and uphold human dignity. In Indonesia, its implementation is grounded in Law Number 20 of 2003 on the National Education System and the National Human Rights Action Plan (RANHAM) 2021–2025. However, the practice of HRE continues to face obstacles, particularly in diverse regions such as East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), where public awareness of human rights values remains low (Wulandari, 2022). Challenges also appear in the areas of educational equity and teacher quality, with the average length of schooling at only 7.63 years and certified teachers reaching just 22% (Statistics Indonesia, 2023b; Ministry of Education, 2024; Ombudsman of the Republic of Indonesia, 2023c). Moreover, early school start-time policies have been criticized as inconsistent with children's rights principles (National Human Rights Commission, 2023). Other barriers include limited resources, weak local policies, and insufficient integration of human rights values into the curriculum (Darmawan & Rante, 2023; Suharto, 2021). Nevertheless, the Merdeka Curriculum offers opportunities to strengthen character and human values through the Pancasila Student Profile (Ministry of Education, 2022). This study examines the implementation, challenges, and opportunities of HRE in schools across NTT as a foundation for developing humanistic and inclusive policies.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the role of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) in developing adolescents’ emotional intelligence. In the modern era filled with social dynamics and moral challenges, emotional intelligence plays a crucial role in shaping a balanced personality that harmonizes intellect, emotion, and spirituality. Through PAI learning, Islamic values such as patience, empathy, self-control, and responsibility are instilled as the foundation for developing adolescents’ emotional intelligence. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach using observation, interview, and documentation methods conducted in a school setting. The research subjects consist of Islamic Religious Education teachers and students at the secondary education level. The findings indicate that PAI plays a significant role in nurturing adolescents’ emotional intelligence through the internalization of moral values (akhlakul karimah), reflective activities, and the habituation of positive attitudes in daily life. Islamic Religious Education teachers serve as spiritual mentors and motivators who help students understand and manage their emotions in accordance with Islamic teachings. Therefore, PAI contributes strategically to shaping adolescents with strong character, self-control, empathy toward others, and a harmonious balance between intellectual and emotional intelligence.
