Abstract

Participative Leadership has become an important focus in modern school management due to its positive potential in enhancing teacher motivation and performance. This article aims to comprehensively explore why participative leadership is crucial for teachers and schools by reviewing both international and national literature, and by proposing a conceptual framework that connects participative leadership, teacher motivation, and school performance. The method used is a systematic literature review complemented by conceptual analysis to integrate recent empirical and theoretical findings. The results indicate that leadership which involves teachers in decision-making, grants professional autonomy, and fosters open communication helps strengthen teachers’ sense of ownership, trust, and commitment to their schools. Furthermore, this leadership style is closely associated with improved teacher performance—reflected in innovative teaching practices, inter-teacher collaboration, and professional productivity—which ultimately contributes positively to overall school quality. Schools that adopt participative leadership tend to create a more conducive and adaptive working environment in the face of change. This article recommends that school principals and educational leaders cultivate a culture of participation and develop institutional structures that support collaboration.

Abstract

This qualitative descriptive study focuses on evaluating the implementation of Media Puzzle Kata as a pedagogical intervention to optimize students' reading comprehension skills in narrative text learning. The study was conducted on subjects in Class IV C of SD Negeri 002/VII Pasar Sarolangun II. Data collection was carried out through a combination of participatory observation triangulation, in-depth interviews, and questionnaires, which were then analyzed using data reduction and source triangulation validation. The results of the study show that the use of Media Puzzle Kata has proven to have a significant and effective positive impact. This media has succeeded in changing the classroom atmosphere from passive to more dynamic, active, and enjoyable, thereby overcoming the problem of low learning motivation. Through puzzle-building activities, students not only gained a strong understanding of sentence structure and vocabulary but also improved their ability to interpret story content, identify narrative elements, and build confidence in reading. In conclusion, word puzzles are a relevant and efficient learning strategy for improving literacy and collaboration at the elementary school level.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of Wordwall media in developing the learning activities of elementary school students. This study is motivated by the need for digital learning media that is attractive and appropriate to the characteristics of elementary school students who are active, enjoy playing, and responsive to interactive visual displays. The method used is a literature study by analyzing 12 relevant journals regarding the use of word walls in various subjects. The results of the analysis prove that word walls have a positive impact on student learning activities, which is seen from the increase in cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects as well as various indicators of activity such as asking questions, discussing, answering questions, and playing an active role during teaching and learning activities. In addition, word walls can increase interest and motivation in learning due to their interactive and fun game features. Overall, word walls are recommended as an effective digital learning medium to increase the learning activities of elementary school students.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe the implementation of character education in the formation of students' holistic personality. The research was a qualitative study conducted at SDN Pasrepan III Kecamatan Pasrepan Kabupaten Pasuruan. Data were obtained from in-depth interviews with key informants : principals, teachers, and students parents. Data were analyzed by using the steps of data reduction, data display, and conclusion/verification. Based on the results of the data analysis, the research showed that: (1) the management of character education could be divided into two strategies, namely internal and external; (2) the internal strategy of the school could be accomplished through the four pillars, namely teaching and learning activities in the classroom, daily activities in the form of school culture, habit formation activities, curricular and extra-curricular activities; and (3) external strategy could be done by cooperating with parents and the community.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of the quality of interpersonal relationships between teachers and students in shaping student personality at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah. The method used is a literature review, examining various relevant scientific sources on interpersonal communication, student personality, and Islamic educational values. The results of the study show that quality interpersonal relationships, characterized by effective communication, empathy, exemplary behavior, and teacher affection, have a significant influence on student personality development. Teachers play an important role not only as educators but also as spiritual guides and moral role models who instill Islamic values in every interaction. Through warm and attentive relationships, students feel valued, emotionally secure, and motivated to behave positively. Good interpersonal relationships foster students who are confident, disciplined, honest, independent, responsible, empathetic, and noble. Thus, the interpersonal relationship between teachers and students becomes the main foundation in realizing madrasah education that is character-building, religious, and oriented towards the formation of perfect human beings.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of using the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) method on students’ critical thinking skills at SMA PGRI 2 Tamalate. The research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design using the Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design. The population consisted of all eleventh-grade students at SMA PGRI 2 Tamalate in the 2024/2025 academic year, totaling 120 students, with a sample of 60 students divided into two groups: an experimental class taught using the Problem-Based Learning method and a control class taught using conventional methods. Data were collected through a critical thinking test that had been validated and tested for reliability. The results showed that the mean posttest score of the experimental class was higher than that of the control class. The t-test results indicated a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000 < 0.05, meaning there was a significant difference between the two groups. Furthermore, the correlation analysis yielded an r value of 0.721 with Sig. = 0.000, indicating a positive and strong relationship between the implementation of Problem-Based Learning and students’ critical thinking skills. Therefore, it can be concluded that the Problem-Based Learning method significantly improves students’ critical thinking skills.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low reading comprehension skills of fifth-grade students at UPT SPF SD Inpres Parang, Makassar. The purpose of this study was to improve students’ reading comprehension skills through the implementation of Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) assisted by the Book Creator platform. This study employed a qualitative approach with the type of classroom action research (CAR) conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of four stages: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects of this study were one classroom teacher and 15 fifth-grade students. The data were collected through observation, tests, and documentation, using observation sheets and reading comprehension tests as instruments. The data were analyzed through three stages: data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study showed an improvement in both teacher and student activities in implementing CSR assisted by the Book Creator platform, increasing from the fair (C) category to the good (B) category according to the implementation target. In addition, students’ reading comprehension test results improved from cycle I to cycle II, achieving a mastery level of 80%, which exceeded the minimum target of ≥70%. Thus, it can be concluded that the implementation of Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) assisted by the Book Creator platform can improve the reading comprehension skills of fifth-grade students at UPT SPF SD Inpres Parang, Makassar.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low learning outcomes of science and natural sciences at SD Negeri 108/1 Sei Rumbai due to the dominance of teacher-centered learning and minimal interaction between students. The purpose of this study is to describe the development and influence of the Collaborative Learning Model on the learning outcomes of science and natural sciences in fifth grade students in the 2025/2026 academic year. This study uses a Descriptive Qualitative method with a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design. The subjects of the study were 12 fifth grade students (6 boys, 6 girls). The study was conducted in three meetings, through the systematic stages of Engagement, Exploration, Transformation, Presentation, and Reflection. Data collection was carried out through Student Worksheets (LKPD), analysis of learning outcomes (formative/summative), and in-depth observation. The success criterion was set if 90% of students achieved the KKM 80. The results showed that the implementation of the Collaborative Learning Model successfully improved students' science and natural science learning outcomes. In addition, this model significantly increased student interaction, activeness, and participation in the learning process. Qualitatively, the Collaborative Learning Model has a positive influence on the learning process and outcomes of fifth-grade students. Teachers are advised to optimize their role as facilitators in managing group dynamics so that all students actively contribute.

Abstract

This study was executed with the primary objective of thoroughly investigating the application and confirmed efficacy of the Numbered Head Together (NHT) Cooperative Model.The central focus of this research was its implementation within the context of Mathematics Instruction for fifth-grade students in elementary schools. The design and execution of this model specifically targeted three crucial pedagogical dimensions: promoting enhanced collaborative activity among students, cultivating a stronger sense of individual accountability, and solidifying students' conceptual understanding of the subject matter. Technically, the NHT procedure involved several core sequential stages:1)Numbering:Assigning a distinct identification number to each student within their respective teams.2) Discussion:Posing a question that necessitates a compulsory group discussion to collectively find a solution.3)Idea Consolidation: The moment when team members synchronize their thoughts and arrive at a consensus for the final answer.4) Random Call:The instructor randomly selects a number to designate which student will represent the group's response—a mechanism proven to effectively ensure the preparedness of every team member.Furthermore, the model demonstrated an ability to increase student participation across the board and, critically, resulted in a significant improvement in their Mathematics learning achievements, particularly concerning problem-solving competency.Based on these compelling results, it is concluded that the NHT Cooperative Model is exceptionally relevant and highly effective as a strategic instructional choice for Mathematics education at the primary school level. Consequently, it is strongly recommended that educators consider and adopt NHT as a viable pedagogical alternative for designing learning activities that actively demand both participatory engagement and robust teamwork from their students.

Abstract

School environment is a crucial determinant in supporting students’ emotional well-being and academic achievement. This study aims to analyze the influence of various aspects of the school environment including school climate, physical conditions, social relationships, and the implementation of social-emotional learning (SEL) programson students’ emotional well-being and academic performance. Using a narrative literature review approach, the study synthesizes key theories and empirical findings from international and local research. The review shows that a positive school environment consistently contributes to improved emotional well-being among students through mechanisms such as enhanced sense of safety, reduced stress, greater sense of belonging, and better teacher-student relationships. Adequate physical conditionssuch as lighting, ventilation, and classroom comfortare found to enhance focus, motivation, and engagement in learning. Furthermore, SEL programs play a significant role in strengthening emotional regulation skills, empathy, and social interaction, which then impact academic performance. Empirical evidence from prior studies indicates that emotional well-being acts as a critical mediator between the school environment and academic achievement; students with high well-being are more likely to exhibit better motivation, attendance, and persistence. Therefore, strengthening the school environment through infrastructural improvements, enhanced quality of social relationships, and implementation of SEL programs is a key strategy to sustainably improve students’ emotional well-being and academic achievement. This review provides important implications for teachers, school principals, and policymakers in designing holistic, evidence-based interventions.
