Abstract

This study is motivated by the important role of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers’ competence in developing a school environment that promotes religious moderation amid the diversity of students’ social and religious backgrounds. Schools are not only institutions for transferring knowledge, but also spaces for shaping students’ character, tolerance, and inclusive attitudes. Therefore, PAI teachers are expected to possess pedagogical, personal, social, and professional competencies that support the internalization of religious moderation values within the school environment. This study aims to examine the competence of PAI teachers in developing a school environment based on religious moderation at SMAN 1 Cerme and SMPN 24 Gresik. The research employed a qualitative approach with a multisite study design. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, observations, and documentation involving PAI teachers, school principals, and students. The findings indicate that the competence of PAI teachers plays a significant role in creating a moderate school environment through dialogical learning, exemplary behavior, harmonious social interaction, and the integration of religious moderation values into intracurricular and extracurricular activities. Pedagogical competence is reflected in teachers’ ability to design inclusive learning processes, while personal and social competencies are demonstrated through tolerant, fair, and open-minded attitudes in daily interactions. In addition, professional competence supports the strengthening of religious moderation values through contextual learning strategies. The development of a moderate school environment is also supported by school culture, leadership policies, and the participation of all school members, although challenges remain in the form of limited understanding of religious moderation and the influence of digital media

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of using card-based educational games and songs on improving the multiplication memorization skills of third-grade elementary school students. The underlying problem is students' low ability to memorize multiplication facts, which impacts their difficulty in completing advanced arithmetic operations. The research method used was a quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent control group. The sample consisted of two classes: class IIIA as the experimental group, which received instruction using cards and songs, and class IIIB as the control group, which received conventional learning. The research instruments were multiplication memorization tests in the form of oral and short answer questions. The results showed that students in the experimental class experienced a more significant improvement in multiplication memorization skills compared to the control class. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of card-based educational games and songs is effective in improving elementary school students' multiplication memorization skills.

Abstract

This study aims to improve students’ learning outcomes in the subject of addition and subtraction of fractions with different denominators through the application of Bruner’s Theory, specifically the enactive, iconic, and symbolic stages. This study employs the Classroom Action Research (CAR) design based on the Kemmis and McTaggart model, conducted over two cycles with a sample of 26 fifth-grade elementary school students. Data collection techniques included observation, documentation, and achievement tests, while data analysis was conducted both quantitatively and qualitatively. The results indicate a significant improvement in student learning outcomes, evidenced by an increase in the average score from 59.5 in the pre-intervention phase to 69.46 in Cycle I, and further to 82.19 in Cycle II, as well as a rise in mastery rates from 30.77% to 84.62%. These findings indicate that the systematic integration of the enactive, iconic, and symbolic stages of representation is capable of enhancing students’ conceptual understanding and procedural skills in fraction material. The novelty of this study lies in the explicit and systematic integration of Bruner’s stages of representation within the Classroom Action Research design for fractions with different denominators an area that has been rarely explored in depth in previous research. This study makes a theoretical contribution to the advancement of the constructivist approach and offers a practical contribution in the form of an applicable learning model designed to improve mathematics learning outcomes in elementary schools.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the low achievement of mathematics learning outcomes among second-grade elementary school students on fraction material, which is caused by conventional teaching approaches that tend to be abstract and do not sufficiently integrate students’ concrete experiences. The main objective of this study is to examine the effectiveness of a contextual teaching and learning model supported by concrete media in improving students’ mathematics learning outcomes on fractions. The study employs a quantitative approach using a simple experimental design, with a total of 20 second-grade students as subjects. Data were collected through a one-group pretest–posttest learning outcomes test, which was analyzed by comparing the average scores before and after the treatment. The results of the analysis indicate a significant improvement in students’ learning outcomes after the implementation of the model, as evidenced by increased student activity, easier understanding of concepts, and the ability to relate the material to real-life contexts. Therefore, it can be concluded that the contextual teaching and learning model assisted by concrete media is proven to be effective in improving mathematics learning outcomes of second-grade elementary school students, and thus can be recommended as an alternative teaching strategy that is meaningful and adaptive to students’ developmental characteristics
