Abstract

Loneliness is a psychological phenomenon commonly experienced by overseas students due to limited social support, cultural shocks, and challenges of adapting to a new environment. This program aims to increase international students' understanding and capacity to manage loneliness through a structured psychoeducational approach. This activity was attended by 15 overseas students aged 18-25 years old who live independently in Yogyakarta. The program is carried out in three stages, namely preparation (collection of needs data), implementation (interactive seminars, videos, and discussions), and evaluation (pre-test and post-test). The paired-samples t-test showed a significant increase in participants' understanding (p < 0.001) after psychoeducation. These findings show that psychoeducation programs are effective in improving overseas students' understanding of loneliness and adaptive coping strategies.

Abstract

One way to protect the public from exposure to cigarette smoke is to implement Smoke-Free Areas (SFAs). This activity was carried out through KTR advocacy in Banjarbaru City for the period May - August 2024. The implementing elements consisted of the Advocacy Team, the Health Office, Regional Work Units (RWUs), educational institutions, religious institutions, and student organizations in Banjarbaru City. The implementation method consisted of Initial Coordination, Audiences and FGD, SFA Task Force Coordination Meetings, Monitoring and Visual Intervention, Educational Socialization in schools, and Institutional Advocacy to RWU. The results of the activity included obtaining permits and directions for SFA activities, gaining support for SFA implementation in 7 settings, strengthening task force coordination, and using cigarette advertising tax data. In addition, it led to the signing of inter-agency commitments, the proposed revisions to the Task Force Decree, and the establishment of an online reporting system. The results of monitoring the implementation of SFA in Public Transportation recorded the highest violation rate at 75%, followed by public places (73.33%) and children's playgrounds (64.29%). Meanwhile, places of worship (40.38%) and workplaces (34.62%) showed moderate levels of violations. The socialization of SFA in schools received a positive response from students and teachers. The advocacy stage of the RWU, through a structural advocacy approach, increased awareness and institutional responsibility for the SFU policy. Strengthening the cross-agency reporting system, providing more extensive educational media in public spaces, and replicating socialization activities across other school levels are needed.

Abstract

Hypertension is a non-communicable disease that is a leading cause of global morbidity and mortality. In Indonesia, the prevalence of hypertension continues to rise, particularly among the productive and elderly populations. This community service activity aims to conduct early detection and provide education on hypertension through blood pressure screening in Kasemen Village, Serang City, Banten Province. The method employed is a participatory approach involving faculty members and medical students from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at UNTIRTA. A total of 247 village residents participated in this activity, and from 230 valid data, it was found that 51.30% of respondents had hypertension. The highest proportion of hypertension was observed among the elderly group (71.6%) and men (80%). In addition to blood pressure measurement, education on the importance of regular blood pressure monitoring and healthy lifestyle changes was also provided to raise community awareness. The results of this activity demonstrate that community-based screening, combined with health education, is an effective strategy for preventing and controlling hypertension, while also serving as a field-based learning opportunity for medical students.

Abstract

The utilization of banana peels as a natural remedy for minor burn wound healing and antimicrobial activity has garnered increasing attention amidst the growing interest in plant-based traditional medicine. This study investigated the bioactive components present in banana peels, including flavonoids, tannins, and polyphenols, which contribute to wound healing and the prevention of infections. Conducted as a community engagement initiative in Jemur Wonosari Sub-district, Surabaya, the activity was designed to be replicable at the household level using simple tools and locally available materials. The preparation process involved cleaning the peels, heating them with virgin coconut oil, and optionally adding natural honey to enhance antibacterial properties. Findings highlight the potential of banana peels as an effective natural burn ointment with antimicrobial and antioxidant properties, while also supporting circular economy principles through the utilization of agricultural waste. Further research is needed to standardize formulations and clinically validate the widespread use of ointments based on banana peels.

Abstract

Implementation of sustainable agriculture promotes environmental sustainability. These start with the farmer using organic-based fertilizer. Therefore, this community service activity aimed to improve the farmers' knowledge and skills to produce liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) as an alternative to chemical fertilizer to support sustainable agriculture. The target of this activity is four Forest Farmer Groups (FFG) in Girimulyo Village, Jatipurno, Wonogiri. The methods used are lectures, discussions, and direct practice. Based on the initial survey, only 10% participants understood the basic concept of LOF. Therefore, the presentation covered the definition, benefits, and process of making LOF and the negative impacts of excessive use of chemical fertilizers. The activity continued with a hands-on practice of making LOF using readily available media such as dry leaf litter, livestock manure, and adding EM4 starter and molasses. A total of 30 participants followed the activity attentively, and discussions took place during the material explanation and the hands-on practice. The evaluation results showed an increase in the participants' understanding and skills. This activity is expected to encourage farmer independence in LOF production and open up sustainable business opportunities in the organic farming sector.

Abstract

Amidst the challenges of competitiveness and the demands of the digital era, MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) require strategic interventions to grow. This can involve engaging various parties to help enhance a business's capacity. Academics play a crucial role as a bridge to increase knowledge and facilitate these efforts through community service. This community engagement program aims to strengthen the capacity of the "Rumah Panrita" MSME, which operates in the coffee sector in Barru Regency. The method employed was participatory training covering four main pillars: (1) product diversification, (2) digital marketing strategy, (3) the importance of business legality, and (4) practical coffee brewing training. Impact evaluation was conducted using a mixed-methods approach. Quantitative analysis utilized a paired samples t-test on participants' pre-test and post-test results. The study revealed comprehensive success. Quantitatively, there was a statistically significant increase (p < 0.05) in participants' knowledge scores, with the average score rising from 13.13 to 13.87. This result was strongly supported by qualitative analysis through participatory observation, which indicated high levels of enthusiasm, active discussion, and initiative among participants. A shift in mindset and strong internal motivation to adopt new knowledge became tangible evidence of the MSME's readiness to transform. This activity concludes that the empowerment program was successful, evidenced by the convergence of significant statistical data and rich qualitative observations, which collectively demonstrate a positive impact and the readiness of "Rumah Panrita" UMKM for business transformation.

Abstract

One effort to reduce maternal and infant mortality is through the use of the KIA handbook. The use of the KIA handbook is a strategy for empowering communities, especially families, to maintain health and efforts to obtain quality services according to standards. Cadres are community motivators to be aware of maternal and child health. In the use of the KIA handbook, cadres play a crucial role in providing education to mothers and assisting midwives in monitoring the health conditions of mothers and their babies. Community service activities aim to increase cadres' knowledge about the use of the KIA handbook, especially during the postpartum period. The activity was carried out in Karangtengah Village, Baturraden District. Thirty-eight community service participants participated. The methods used included lectures, discussions, and question-and-answer sessions. The results of the community service showed that the level of knowledge among cadres before receiving education was mostly lacking (94.7%), while after receiving education, the majority had sufficient knowledge (65.8%).

Abstract

Public health challenges in rural areas of Indonesia are often influenced by low nutrition literacy, suboptimal clean and healthy living behaviors (CHLB), and limited access to healthcare services. This community engagement program aimed to improve nutrition literacy, promote preventive health behaviors, and facilitate early detection of health problems among residents of Gung Pinto Village, Karo Regency. The intervention was conducted on July 24, 2025, at the village hall, involving 30 participants from various age groups. The activities included balanced nutrition and CHLB education through interactive lectures and group discussions, as well as anthropometric measurements, physical examinations, and free medical treatment provided according to medical indications. Results revealed that most participants had a waist circumference above the standard threshold (80%), indicating central obesity, alongside complaints of gastritis/dyspepsia (20%), hypertension (6.7%), acute respiratory infections (3.3%), and mild neuralgia (6.7%). The combination of balanced nutrition and CHLB education, along with health screening and medical services, effectively increased awareness and facilitated the early identification of health issues. These findings underscore the need for integrated, context-specific public health approaches that align with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) target three on good health and well-being.
