Abstract

Urban farming activities in Surabaya have continued to grow rapidly since the end of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2022, meeting approximately 20 percent of the city's vegetable needs. The improved skills of various vegetable cultivation groups, including the Barokah Farmers Group in Babat Jerawat Village, Pakal District, have led them to be named "Jawara". Armed with this achievement, they are attempting to expand into seasonal fruit farming using hydroponic technology under the shade of a screen house. On the other hand, Surabaya's hot weather and relatively high humidity are obstacles to implementing hydroponic cultivation systems in screenhouses. Exposure to intense sunlight during the day can increase the temperature of the pipes containing the net pots and nutrient reservoirs to 45°C, thus impacting the temperature of the AB Mix nutrient solution and the physiology of melon plant roots. Armed with experience from research and melon cultivation practices, the community service implementation team conducted a demonstration plot of superior hydroponic melon cultivation in a screenhouse. Based on the findings of the hydroponic installation research on campus, several modifications have been made to the hydroponic installation, including the addition of a cooling layer for the netpots and hydroponic nutrient reservoirs. The added heat insulation layer maintains the temperature of the piping and nutrient reservoir between 30-32°C. This is expected to allow the melon plants to grow normally without environmental stress until harvest, when they yield optimal fruit.

Abstract

The reform of Indonesia's criminal procedure law, as outlined in the Draft Criminal Procedure Code (RKUHAP), is set to take effect in January 2026 and has sparked mixed reactions among academics, legal practitioners, and civil society. This discussion was held as a moral calling and a form of academic protest against several articles in the RKUHAP that are perceived as granting excessive power to law enforcement authorities. The primary objective of this activity was to provide a more comprehensive understanding to students and student organizations from Universitas Negeri Makassar and Universitas Hasanuddin about the dynamics of criminal law reform in Indonesia, both from theoretical perspectives and practical experiences. The method employed was an open forum, consisting of two main sessions: one featuring conceptual insights delivered by academic lecturers, and the other analyzing real-life legal cases presented by representatives from the Legal Aid Institute (LBH) Makassar. The event took place in the courtyard of the BU Building at Universitas Negeri Makassar, with active participation from students across different faculties and organizations. The outcome showed that participants gained a deeper and more complete understanding of how complex the criminal procedure reform really is. They could see both the potential for stronger human rights protection on one hand, and the risks of backsliding on due process principles on the other. Overall, this event made a significant contribution to shaping critical legal awareness among students as agents of change and to encouraging more youth involvement in advocating for legal reform in Indonesia.

Abstract

This International Community Service (PKM) activity aims to improve the understanding and skills of Islamic economic literacy among members of the Majelis Taklim (Islamic study group) in Bandung City. The background of this activity is based on the community's low understanding of Islamic economic principles and the minimal use of digital technology to support sustainable Islamic financial practices. A total of 39 participants from the Islamic Economics Taklim Assembly of Bandung City participated in a series of activities that included counseling and mentoring. The material provided covered basic concepts of Islamic economics, an introduction to muamalah contracts, the use of Islamic digital applications, and Islamic personal financial management. Evaluation results showed a significant increase in participants' knowledge scores, with an average pre-test of 52.72 increasing to 67.83 in the post-test, representing a 15.11-point increase in understanding. This suggests that this activity is effective in fostering Islamic economic literacy within religious communities. As a recommendation, this program can serve as a sustainable educational model and be replicated in various regions, with its effectiveness strengthened through synergy between universities, Islamic financial authorities, and halal digital industry players.

Abstract

The decline in rice productivity is attributed to the excessive use of chemical fertilizers, which leads to soil saturation and adverse environmental impacts. The purpose of this community service is to implement an organic minapadi cultivation system as a strategy to increase agricultural productivity in Wonopringgo Village, Pekalongan Regency. The community service activity was carried out from June to August 2025, involving 24 partner farmers through observation, extension, and practical methods of creating organic minapadi cultivation demonstration plots. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in farmers' knowledge, experience, and awareness of the organic minapadi system. The number of farmers who understood the concept of minapadi increased from 5 to 22, while the understanding of organic farming rose from 2 to 20. In addition, all farmers gained direct experience through extension activities and field practice. An increase in knowledge of the benefits of minapadi was also seen, from previously only three farmers to 24 farmers who were aware of it. This confirms that the integrated extension approach is efficient in transferring knowledge to partners. Overall, the implementation of organic minapadi (rice-fish farming) in Wonopringgo Village not only provides ecological benefits in the form of improved soil fertility and pest control, but also increases economic opportunities through crop diversification. This activity has the potential to become a pilot model that can be replicated in other areas with similar agro-ecosystem conditions, while also supporting sustainable agricultural development.

Abstract

The increasing household consumption of cooking oil has led to a rise in used cooking oil waste, which, if reused, can endanger health and, if disposed of carelessly, causes environmental pollution. This condition prompted the implementation of a community service program, which involved training women's religious study groups in Bumi Sejahtera Housing, Pekanbaru City, on how to use cooking oil in soap. This activity aimed to enhance community knowledge about the dangers of using used cooking oil, raise environmental awareness, and provide practical skills in processing used cooking oil into soap products that have both functional and economic value. The program was conducted in several stages, including a preliminary survey, material preparation, socialization, soap-making demonstrations, hands-on practice with participants, and post-training evaluation. The results showed high enthusiasm from participants, as reflected in their active involvement during discussions and practical sessions. Participants could produce soap from used cooking oil with good foaming quality and fragrance, making it suitable for household use. In addition, some participants expressed interest in continuing independent soap production by collecting used cooking oil from the surrounding community, thereby opening up opportunities for program sustainability and increasing the economic value of household waste. This program successfully improved community understanding of the impacts of used cooking oil, reduced potential environmental pollution, and provided skills that can be further developed into small-scale businesses.
