Abstract

Mental health issues are the fifth largest contributor to the global disease burden and one of the main risk factors for morbidity and mortality among adolescents. This community service aims to increase teenagers' knowledge about the concept of self-love as an effort to maintain mental health. This activity was conducted at SMA Negeri 9 Kendari in November 2024 with the students as a target, totaling 30 people. The stages of this activity consisted of audience/socialization, data collection of prospective participants, identification of mental health issues among students, dissemination process (self-love education and distribution of flip charts, leaflets, and posters Medias to the school and Benu-Benua Health Center). As well as evaluation using the comparison of pre-test and post-test scores. All stages of this activity went well and smoothly, the school fully supported this activity, and the participants showed high enthusiasm during the education and discussion process. The evaluation result shows an increase in students' knowledge about self-love as an effort to maintain mental health after the education was conducted. Thus, it is hoped that schools and community health centers will regularly provide education on self-love to all students or adolescents to address potential mental health risks.

Abstract

The ‘Minutes of English Songs’ program aimed at helping teachers in maximizing students' vocabulary acquisition in primary schools. Through a music-based learning method, it was designed using English children's songs with simple lyrics to introduce new vocabulary in a contextual and fun way. This activity involved students of SDN 1 Talang Kelapa as participants of the Community Service activity in understanding, remembering, and applying vocabulary through structured activities, including singing, translating lyrics, moving limbs, repeating lyrics, and multiple-choice question exercises. A quasi-experimental method was used to evaluate the effectiveness of the program, with a pre-test and post-test to measure the improvement in students' vocabulary acquisition. The results of the program showed that there was a significant improvement in students' vocabulary skills after attending the program, with an average pre-test score of 55%, which increased to 85% in the post-test. In addition to vocabulary improvement, students also showed increased confidence in speaking English and had positive perceptions of the program. The findings suggested that a music-based approach can be an effective alternative in teaching English vocabulary at the primary school level. The program is expected to be applied more widely as an innovative effort to improve students' vocabulary acquisition in a fun way.

Abstract

Villages play a key role in economic development at both the regional and national levels. One important initiative to support the village economy is the establishment of Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes), which aims to improve village financial accountability and transparency. However, weak accounting and financial reporting systems are often a major challenge. The BUMDes Accounting Workshop conducted in Pangalengan Village aimed to address this issue through Excel application-based accounting training. The results of the activity showed an improved understanding of BUMDes managers on basic accounting principles, good governance, as well as the use of a more efficient accounting information system. The implementation of this system is expected to support the sustainability of village development through more transparent and reliable financial management

Abstract

Pattappa Village is a village that has the potential for minerals. However, in developing its potential, residents tend to ignore it because they do not know how to manage it. Residents only know that to manage it, they must attract investors. The uniqueness of the mineral excavation potential can be encouraged from a tourism perspective. This can ensure sustainability compared to mining, which has a management life. Community empowerment activities aim to provide an understanding of the potential of mineral excavation-based tourism owned by the village. The implementation is by conducting socialization, filling out questionnaires, and discussing the evaluation of questionnaire results. The activity results showed a paradigm shift in villagers’ development of tourism potential. Residents have the awareness to manage the potential of minerals in geotourism.

Abstract

Food waste represents one of the most pressing global challenges, with significant implications for the environment, the economy, and social well-being. One of the key measures that communities can adopt to address household food waste is by transforming perceptions and practices surrounding food waste—viewing it not as waste to be discarded but as an alternative resource. The primary objective of this initiative is to enhance the role of Posyandu (integrated health post) cadres as family educators in providing community education. These educators are expected to explain the negative impacts of food waste on the environment and food security while offering practical guidance on sustainable practices, such as mindful shopping, proper food storage, and repurposing food leftovers into valuable products like eco-enzyme solutions. The training commenced with a pre-test to assess participants' baseline knowledge, involving 55 participants, including Posyandu cadres, representatives from public health centers (Puskesmas), sub-district officials, and the program team. The content delivered by the facilitators ranged from the selection of hygienic food ingredients to the practical steps for producing eco-enzymes from food waste. Practical modules were distributed to help participants easily implement the knowledge acquired during the sessions. Post-test results indicated a significant improvement in participants' understanding, coupled with high levels of enthusiasm during the discussion sessions. As a follow-up, program evaluations and additional training sessions will be conducted to ensure the sustainability of these efforts. This initiative is expected to support public health and environmental preservation through the prudent management of food and food waste.

Abstract

This service aims to enhance the quality and quantity of the breeding farm at Pure Fresh Dairy Farm by diversifying dairy products, specifically goat milk yogurt, and promoting them through e-commerce branding and marketing. The method used is participatory action research, where the implementation team and partners together, assisted by students, jointly carry out community service activities from socialization, training, and mentoring as well as socialization in making goat milk yogurt and product marketing. The service results revealed that the farmer's knowledge was only 25% before the socialization and training, but after these activities, the farmer's understanding increased to 100%. The results of the yogurt organoleptic test showed a pure white color, a soft texture, a not-too-pungent aroma, a sour taste, and medium viscosity. The goat milk yogurt is branded as 'Pure Fresh Dairy for Happiness Goat Milk Yoghurt'. We engage in marketing by setting up accounts on Instagram and Shopee platforms. The impact of this service is to provide knowledge to farmers, particularly Pure Fresh Dairy Farm partners, about the technology of diversifying dairy products in the form of yogurt and to add value to their income through the sale of goat milk yogurt products.

Abstract

Smoking behavior is the act of inhaling smoke from burning tobacco and then exhaling it. This community service (PkM) project aims to educate residents of RW 11, Bangetayu Kulon Village, Semarang City, about the effects of smoking through a short film, testimonials from former smokers, and a simulation demonstrating the impact of smoking on lung health. The intervention was attended by 56 participants and included the following activities: (1) health checks, which involved measuring blood pressure and conducting random blood sugar tests; (2) a pre-test to assess participants’ knowledge of smoking hazards using a questionnaire; (3) screening of the short film; (4) a health education session on the dangers of smoking; (5) a simulation using simple tools to help participants better understand smoking hazards; (6) a testimonial interview with a former smoker; and (7) a post-test to evaluate participants' knowledge levels. The success of the education initiative was measured with a questionnaire consisting of ten questions for participants. The evaluation indicated that the PkM team's efforts significantly enhanced participants' knowledge (p<0.05). Pre-intervention scores (pre-test) averaged 80.17±9.24, while post-intervention scores (post-test) averaged 94.82±6.6, reflecting an 18.27% increase in knowledge among the RW 11 residents of Bangetayu Kulon Village. Ideally, family members and stakeholders should follow up on this PkM outcome to monitor adherence to smoking cessation.

Abstract

Entrepreneurship has an important role in economic and social development and is a strategic tool for countries that want to achieve economic independence. In Indonesia, one of the efforts to increase entrepreneurship is carried out through entrepreneurship development programs in Islamic boarding schools, such as those implemented at the Al-Umm Aswaja Islamic Boarding School. However, lack of motivation and limited entrepreneurial practices are obstacles. To overcome this, Creative Thinking and Ecoprint training was implemented as a solution to generate interest in entrepreneurship among students. The results of the analysis show that these two trainings succeeded in increasing students' understanding and interest in entrepreneurship, with the Ecoprint training providing a more significant impact. In conclusion, this training program is effective in encouraging students to plan and start businesses, thereby contributing to the development of entrepreneurship and creating economic opportunities in the Islamic boarding school community.
