PERDIKAN journal focuses on community engagement program and the manuscript is about applied knowledge or science in community to advance theories, research and practices related to all forms of outreach and engagement. Community engagement means services to society, applying of knowledge or science and technology based on their field, increasing the capacity of society and community empowerment. The PERDIKAN journal draws on existing issues from those varieties of field. This includes highlighting innovation of community empowerment, and reporting on engaged research, community-based research, action research, and community services, as well as improving the knowledge and practice in the field of purposive community engagement. The aim of this journal publication is to disseminate the conceptual thoughts or ideas and research results that have been achieved in the area of community services. PERDIKAN particularly focuses on the main problems in the development of the sciences of community services areas as follows:1) Community Services, People/Society, and Local Food; 2) Less Developed Region; 3) Student Community Services; 4) Training for Sustainable Development; 5) Community Empowerment, Social Access possiblity, including Environmental Issues.

Abstract

The need for more contextualized literature for peace education courses in Central Visayas has become demanding for teachers seeking comprehensible peace concepts from indigenous perspectives. Concepts on peace introduced in universities’ undergraduate and graduate programs are published documents from Western experiences underlined by resolutions from the United Nations conferences on peace. This study sought to draw out peace concepts from the perspectives of Indigenous women who are conflict-settling mothers of the Talaandig tribe in northern Mindanao, Philippines, to contribute to the literature gap in peace education courses. Ethnographic-grounded theory approaches in the qualitative methods applied Charmaz’s (2006) coding and memo-writing steps. Three objectives were laid out to draw out definitions of peace from Indigenous women’s perspectives, illustrate images of peace through a soil painting workshop, and contribute an educational framework for a culture of sustainable peace from Indigenous mothers’ peacekeeping strategies, designed into three research phases. Twenty-one mothers who are active in peacekeeping activities have been chosen by the mother coordinator as participants. This study has resulted in a pool of Indigenous concepts of peace drawn out from narratives of mothers’ engagements in conflict settling and peacekeeping, soil-painted images of peace illustrating values relevant to the needs of today’s world, and a working framework for peace education from Indigenous women’s perspectives. This joint work of mothers and academic communities opens possibilities for contextualized peace concepts and values responsive to today’s world.

Abstract

The knowledge of prophetic values among the students at Madrasah Manbaul Uloom, based on an interview with Abdul Qowi, the headmaster of the Madrasah, is very low because the students focus more on memorizing the Quran without receiving in-depth religious education. Therefore, an effort must be made to understand and strengthen prophetic values as the main foundation in studying religious knowledge, especially the Quran. Thus, this service is conducted to enhance prophetic values among the students at Madrasah Manbaul Uloom. The method used in this service is the Participatory Action Research method. (PAR). This approach involves students, teachers/ustaz, and the madrasah administration in all stages of the activities, namely 25 students, five teachers, and one administrator. Meanwhile, the improvement efforts involve conducting training and workshops. The results of the service to strengthen prophetic values at Madrasah Manbaul Uloom conducted through training show an apparent increase in understanding of the prophetic values of humanization (amar ma’ruf), liberation (nahi munkar), and transcendence (tu’minuuna billah). The improvement is evident as the students begin to courageously invite their friends to engage in good activities and strive to avoid conflicts among peers. However, there needs to be a follow-up on the periodic improvement of teachers’/ustaz’ competencies to create a more holistic and meaningful learning atmosphere. [Pengetahuan nilai-nilai Profetik Peserta didik di Madrasah Manbaul Uloom berdasarkan hasil wawancara dengan Abdul Qowi selaku Mudir Madrasah sangatlah rendah karena peserta didik lebih fokus belajar menghafal Al Quran tanpa menerima pengajaran agama secara mendalam. Sehingga perlu ada upaya untuk memahamkan dan menguatkan nilai-nilai profetik sebagai landasan utama dalam mempelajari ilmu agama khususnya Al Quran. Maka diadakanlah Pengabdian ini sebagai Upaya meningkatkan nilai-nilai profetik pada peserta didik di Madrasah Manbaul Uloom. Metode yang digunakan pada pengabdian ini adalah metode Participatory Action Research (PAR). Pendekatan ini melibatkan peserta didik/santri, guru/ustaz, dan pihak madrasah dalam seluruh tahapan kegiatan yaitu 25 santri, 5 ustaz, dan 1 pengelola. Sedangkan upaya peningkatannya dengan melakukan pelatihan dan workshop. Hasil dari pengabdian penguatan nilai-nilai profetik di Madrasah Manbaul Uloom yang dilakukan dengan cara pelatihan ini nampak terlihat adanya peningkatan pemahaman tentang nilai-nilai Profetik Humanisasi (amar ma'ruf), Liberasi (nahi munkar), dan Transendensi (tu’minuuna billah). Peningkatan itu nampak pada peserta didik mulai berani mengajak teman-temannya pada hal-hal baik dan berusaha menghindari konflik antar teman. Namun Perlu ada tindak lanjut peningkatan kompetensi guru/ustaz secara berkala agar tercipta suasana pembelajaran yang lebih holistik dan bermakna.]

Abstract

This community service project focuses on improving reading skills among first and second-grade students at Al-Karomah Islamic Elementary School in Sampang, where low reading interest has been identified. Contributing factors include an unsupportive school environment, ineffective teaching methods, and lack of parental involvement. The syllable method was implemented as a solution to address these issues. The study aimed to enhance reading interest and proficiency by employing Participatory Action Research (PAR) to involve stakeholders in identifying problems and developing solutions actively. The research involved three meetings held on July 26, August 2, and August 9, 2024, during which students were engaged in learning the alphabet and syllables. Initial observations revealed that many students struggled with basic reading skills. By the end of the intervention, significant improvements were noted; students became more enthusiastic and showed increased proficiency in reading. Although some students still required guidance, the overall response was positive, indicating the effectiveness of the syllable method. The findings suggest that students can significantly improve their reading skills with appropriate teaching strategies and a conducive learning environment. This study highlights the importance of community involvement and innovative teaching methods in fostering literacy among young learners, emphasizing the pivotal role of educators and parents in facilitating a supportive learning atmosphere.[Pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini berfokus pada peningkatan kemampuan membaca siswa kelas I dan II di Sekolah Dasar Islam Al-Karomah Sampang, di mana ditemukan rendahnya minat baca. Faktor penyebabnya meliputi lingkungan sekolah yang kurang mendukung, metode pengajaran yang tidak efektif, dan kurangnya keterlibatan orang tua. Untuk mengatasi masalah ini, diterapkan metode silaba sebagai solusi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan minat dan kemampuan membaca melalui metode tersebut dengan menggunakan pendekatan Participatory Action Research (PAR) yang melibatkan semua pihak dalam mengidentifikasi masalah dan mencari solusi. Penelitian dilakukan dalam tiga pertemuan pada 26 Juli, 2 Agustus, dan 9 Agustus 2024, di mana siswa diajak belajar mengenal huruf alfabet dan suku kata. Observasi awal menunjukkan bahwa banyak siswa mengalami kesulitan dalam membaca. Namun, setelah intervensi, terjadi peningkatan signifikan; siswa menjadi lebih antusias dan menunjukkan kemajuan dalam kemampuan membaca. Meskipun beberapa siswa masih memerlukan bimbingan, tanggapan keseluruhan sangat positif, menunjukkan efektivitas metode silaba. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa dengan strategi pengajaran yang tepat dan lingkungan belajar yang kondusif, siswa dapat meningkatkan kemampuan membaca secara signifikan. Abstract

This community service aims to improve the competency of Madrasah Ibtidaiyah teachers in Pamekasan Regency in creating Madurese literature learning media based on Artificial Intelligence (AI). Through the Participatory Action Research (PAR) methodology, teachers are actively involved in the needs identification, planning, training implementation, and result evaluation process. This training focuses on using AI technology to create interactive and engaging learning media, expected to motivate students to understand Madurese literature. The activity results show improved teachers' understanding and skills in applying AI technology in teaching. The teachers successfully developed AI-based media that can be integrated into the Madurese literature curriculum, making the teaching and learning process more creative and effective. The impact of this activity is expected to improve the quality of Madurese literature learning and encourage teachers to continuously innovate in using technology in the classroom.[Pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kompetensi guru Madrasah Ibtidaiyah di Kabupaten Pamekasan dalam membuat media pembelajaran sastra Madura berbasis Artificial Intelligence (AI). Melalui metodologi Participatory Action Research (PAR), para guru dilibatkan secara aktif dalam proses identifikasi kebutuhan, perencanaan, pelaksanaan pelatihan, dan evaluasi hasil. Pelatihan ini fokus pada penggunaan teknologi AI untuk menciptakan media pembelajaran yang interaktif dan menarik, diharapkan mampu memotivasi siswa dalam memahami sastra Madura. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan pemahaman dan keterampilan guru dalam mengaplikasikan teknologi AI dalam pembelajaran. Para guru berhasil mengembangkan media berbasis AI yang dapat diintegrasikan ke dalam kurikulum sastra Madura sehingga proses belajar mengajar menjadi lebih kreatif dan efektif. Abstract

SMAN 1 Tammerodo was established in 2021 as a transition from PGRI Sendana Private High School. Before its establishment, many junior high school graduates and equivalents from Tammerodo District continued their education at SMAN 1 Sendana. This was because the majority of Tammerodo's population preferred state schools over private ones. The STAIN Majene Service Team implemented an innovative mentoring strategy for SMAN 1 Tammerodo to fulfil the 2020 Education Unit Accreditation Instrument (IASP) by applying the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach. The Service Team provided assistance through appreciative interview activities, asset potential mapping, linking and mobilizing assets, action plan preparation, and monitoring and evaluation. The results showed that SMAN 1 Tammerodo received a Not Accredited status because the score from the accreditation visitation did not reach 71 across the four components of the accreditation instrument. A school unit can achieve accreditation if it scores between 71 and 100. The assistance provided by the STAIN Majene Service Team to SMAN 1 Tammerodo in fulfilling the 2020 IASP through the ABCD approach has become the main foundation in building the strengths and potential within the school community. As a result, SMAN 1 Tammerodo is now ready, which can be seen from the school’s understanding of the 2020 IASP. Documents for the last 2 years will be prepared by December 2023, and documents for the last 1 year will be prepared by the completion of 2024.[UPTD SMAN 1 Tammerodo resmi menjadi sekolah negeri pada tahun 2021 sebagai peralihan dari SMA Swasta PGRI Sendana. Sebelum beralih status, lulusan Sekolah Menengah Pertama dan sederajat di Kecamatan Tammerodo lebih banyak melanjutkan pendidikan ke SMAN 1 Sendana. Hal ini disebabkan mayoritas masyarakat Tammerodo lebih memilih sekolah yang berstatus negeri dibanding swasta. Tim Pengabdi STAIN Majene melaksanakan strategi pendampingan yang inovatif bagi UPTD SMAN 1 Tammerodo untuk memenuhi Instrumen Akreditasi Satuan Pendidikan (IASP) 2020 dengan menerapkan pendekatan ABCD (Asset-Based Community Development). Pendampingan yang dilakukan oleh Tim Pengabdi STAIN Majene terhadap UPTD SMAN 1 Tammerodo menggunakan pendekatan ABCD sebagai kerangka konseptual. Tahapan pertama dimulai dengan wawancara apresiatif, yang bertujuan untuk menggali pengalaman positif serta kekuatan internal sekolah melalui narasi dari warga sekolah. Proses ini dilanjutkan dengan pemetaan aset guna mengidentifikasi potensi yang dimiliki sekolah, baik dalam bentuk sumber daya manusia, sarana prasarana, jejaring kemitraan, maupun modal sosial lainnya. Pada tahap berikutnya, dilakukan tautan dan mobilisasi aset untuk mengintegrasikan potensi-potensi tersebut ke dalam aksi kolektif yang mendukung pemenuhan standar mutu pendidikan. Berdasarkan hasil pemetaan, disusun rencana aksi dan prioritas kegiatan yang berorientasi pada pemenuhan empat komponen dalam instrumen akreditasi IASP 2020, yaitu mutu lulusan, proses pembelajaran, mutu guru, serta manajemen sekolah. Hasil awal menunjukkan bahwa UPTD SMAN 1 Tammerodo belum terakreditasi karena nilai visitasi tidak mencapai skor minimum 71. Oleh karena itu, dilakukan monitoring dan evaluasi secara berkala untuk menilai efektivitas implementasi rencana aksi dan mendorong perbaikan berkelanjutan. Pendekatan ABCD ini terbukti menjadi fondasi strategis dalam menggerakkan partisipasi komunitas sekolah serta memperkuat kapasitas internal. Hasilnya bahwa UPTD SMAN 1 Tammerodo telah memiliki kesiapan, hal ini terlihat dari pihak sekolah yang telah memahami IASP 2020. Dokumen 2 tahun terakhir disiapkan paling lambat sampai Desember 2023. Abstract

This study was conducted to examine social media, herein referred to as SM-driven community engagement, and its role in political awareness creation towards socio-political development in Nigeria. The rationale behind the study was the need for insights as to the place of SM engagement in political awareness creation. The researcher relied on a survey research design using a multistage sampling technique to determine the final population sample for the survey. A Google Forms-aided questionnaire was designed, and a link was shared with the respondents. The findings of the study show greater access to SM platforms among Nigerians, with political information as one of the most prominent contents. SM-disseminated political information creates awareness as youth with greater access become interested in political matters on account of their exposure to such information across platforms. Furthermore, the study also shows that community engagement is enhanced by virtue of the use of SM for political awareness creation. It was also revealed that the capacity of SM as platforms for awareness creation drives community engagement and development in Nigeria. This is particularly the case with respect to the development of political consciousness towards meaningful participation in the political sphere. The researcher concluded that SM-driven political awareness creation creates informed citizens capable of making decisions from an informed perspective toward the development of society in the current digital era.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the closure of almost all learning processes in Islamic boarding schools. Only some Islamic boarding schools have succeeded in modifying learning methods, one of which is the Darul Faqih Indonesian Islamic Boarding School located in Malang Regency, Indonesia. This community service aims to support efforts to strengthen the digitalisation of Darul Faqih Indonesian Islamic boarding school and direct the development of hybrid Islamic boarding schools after the Covid-19 pandemic. This community service activity consists of two phases. First, at the beginning of the semester, teachers are given training to strengthen the use of learning management systems and mobile apps. In the second phase, the teacher was invited back to conduct a focus group discussion at the end of the implementation. At the end of this service activity, impact measurements were also carried out from a teacher's perspective. A total of 58 teachers participated in this activity. Less than half of teachers have a preference for mixed learning. However, they have high self-efficacy in implementing effective learning to support the implementation of hybrid pesantren. Constraints during mixed learning are appropriate technological and pedagogical support. Despite some challenges, teachers have so far been able to adapt to various online learning methods. Most agree that blended learning can be next as the next main effort towards hybrid pesantren.[Pandemi Covid-19 berdampak pada penutupan hampir semua proses pembelajaran di pondok pesantren. Hanya sebagian pondok pesantren yang berhasil memodifikasi metode pembelajaran, salah satunya adalah Pondok Pesantren Darul Faqih Indonesia yang berlokasi di Kabupaten Malang, Indonesia. Pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memberikan dukungan dalam upaya penguatan digitalisasi pesantren Darul Faqih Indonesia dan mengarahkan pada pembangunan pesantren hibrid pasca pandemi Covid-19. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini terdiri dari dua fase. Pertama, pada awal semester, guru diberikan pelatihan untuk penguatan penggunaan learning manajemen system dan mobile app. Fase kedua, di akhir penerapan, guru diundang kembali untuk melakukan Focus Group Discussion. Di akhir kegiatan pengabdian ini juga dilakukan pengukuran dampak berupa perspektif guru. Sebanyak 58 guru berpartisipasi dalam kegiatan ini. Kurang dari separuh guru yang memiliki preferensi terhadap pembelajaran campuran. Namun, mereka memiliki efikasi diri yang tinggi dalam melaksanakan pembelajaran yang efektif untuk mendukung implementasi pesantren hibrid. Kendala selama pembelajaran campuran adalah dukungan teknologi dan pedagogi yang tepat dan sesuai. Meskipun ada beberapa tantangan, guru sejauh ini mampu beradaptasi dengan berbagai metode pembelajaran daring, dan mayoritas setuju bahwa pembelajaran campuran dapat diterapkan selanjutnya sebagai upaya utama menuju pesantren hibrid.]

Abstract

Low levels of financial literacy and poor financial management skills remain key challenges faced by the “mustahik” (zakat beneficiaries), particularly those engaged in Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). This condition hinders the optimal utilization of zakat funds to support sustainable economic development among the mustahik. This community engagement program aimed to enhance the financial literacy and managerial skills of the mustahik in the Zakat Village (Kampung Zakat) of Nyalabu Daya Village, Pamekasan, through participatory-based financial management training. The underlying hypothesis of the program is that improved financial literacy can lead to a shift in mindset, which in turn can positively influence financial behaviour and significantly enhance the economic independence of the mustahik. The program adopted a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, actively involving the mustahik in problem identification, solution design, training, and evaluation. The training focused on practical skills such as budgeting, setting financial priorities, recordkeeping, and separating personal and business finances. The results showed significant improvement in participants’ ability to manage their business finances in terms of mindset transformation and technical capabilities. Participants also demonstrated greater confidence in managing their businesses independently and sustainably. These findings support the theory that participatory approaches enhance the effectiveness of learning and empowerment in community-based settings. This program is recommended for replication in other mustahik communities as a sustainable, zakat-based model for economic empowerment through structured financial education.[Rendahnya tingkat literasi dan kemampuan manajemen keuangan merupakan salah satu tantangan utama yang dihadapi oleh mustahik, terutama mereka yang menjalankan usaha skala mikro, kecil, dan menengah (UMKM). Kondisi ini berdampak pada kurang optimalnya pemanfaatan dana zakat untuk meningkatkan keberlanjutan ekonomi mustahik. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan literasi keuangan dan keterampilan manajerial mustahik di Kampung Zakat, Desa Nyalabu Daya, Pamekasan, melalui pelatihan manajemen keuangan berbasis partisipatif. Hipotesis yang mendasari program ini adalah bahwa peningkatan literasi keuangan akan mendorong perubahan pola pikir sehingga berdampak pada perubahan perilaku keuangan serta meningkatkan kemandirian ekonomi mustahik secara signifikan. Program ini menggunakan pendekatan Participatory Action Research (PAR), yang melibatkan mustahik secara aktif dalam proses identifikasi masalah, perancangan solusi, pelatihan, dan evaluasi. Kegiatan difokuskan pada keterampilan penyusunan anggaran, penentuan skala prioritas, pencatatan keuangan, serta pemisahan keuangan usaha dan pribadi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan peningkatan yang signifikan dalam kemampuan peserta mengelola keuangan usaha, baik dari sisi perubahan pola pikir maupun aspek teknis. Peserta juga menunjukkan peningkatan kepercayaan diri dalam mengelola usaha secara mandiri dan berkelanjutan. Temuan ini mendukung teori bahwa pendekatan partisipatif dapat memperkuat efektivitas pembelajaran dan pemberdayaan dalam konteks komunitas.
