Abstract

Community-based waste management through the waste bank in RW 3 Mangunharjo Subdistrict faced significant constraints, particularly in its manual, decentralized, and error-prone bookkeeping system, which resulted in low transparency and reduced public trust. Nevertheless, waste banks are practical implementations of the circular economy that transform waste into valuable economic resources. This community service activity aimed to enhance the waste bank's administrative governance to be more orderly, accountable, and sustainable, thereby strengthening its role as a micro-level circular economy enabler. The methodology employed was a participatory approach consisting of four interconnected stages: initial identification and coordination, technical training and assistance (manual and Excel bookkeeping), implementation and monitoring, and evaluation and follow-up, including the drafting of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). The program's results demonstrate substantial governance improvement through the implementation of an integrated bookkeeping system, combining standardized manual recording (Master Transaction Book and Customer Savings Book) with digitalization based on Microsoft Excel. This improvement increased transparency, accelerated the reporting process, minimized data loss risk, and directly fostered public trust and participation. The increased participation and volume of managed waste led to a rise in the economic value from waste sales, a true reflection of the circular economy cycle. In conclusion, the provision of an efficient and transparent bookkeeping system is the primary prerequisite that was successfully met for the waste bank to effectively function as a key actor in driving circular economy sustainability.

Abstract

Abstract

This research aims to develop a simple pyrolysis device as an alternative solution for plastic waste management in Uko Village, Muara Komam District, Paser Regency. The increasing volume of unmanaged plastic waste has caused environmental and social problems, requiring appropriate technology that can be applied at the household or community level. An experimental approach was employed by designing and testing a pyrolysis system using a pressure cooker as the reactor. The process was conducted at 325°C with 453 grams of LDPE and PS plastics. The experiment produced 195 ml of clear yellowish pyrolysis oil with a yield of approximately 43%. This oil has a calorific value comparable to diesel fuel, making it a potential alternative energy source for rural communities. Implementing this technology within a Community Service Program (PKM) in Uko Village provided dual benefits—reducing plastic waste accumulation while raising community awareness of sustainable waste management. Furthermore, the produced pyrolysis oil can be used as household fuel, reducing expenses and offering new economic opportunities. Thus, this simple pyrolysis innovation effectively supports plastic waste reduction and empowers rural communities toward a circular economy based on renewable energy.

Abstract

This dedication aims to analyze the implementation of digital transformation in Nagari Bukit Buai Tapan through the integration of regional profiles, management of organic compost, and the use of family medicinal plants (Toga) as an effort to support sustainable development. The methodology used includes socialization of programs to local stakeholders, training in nagari and community devices in the use of digital information systems, regional mapping with simple software, as well as direct practice of cultivating toga and making household compost. This program is implemented in a participatory manner by involving nagari devices, farmer groups, health cadres, youth, and beneficiary households. The results of this service indicate that the digital information system is successfully operated by the Nagari device to manage population data and local potential. The regional mapping produces administrative maps that are printed and installed in the Nagari office and are available in digital format. More than 20 households planted toga, including ginger, turmeric, and lemongrass, while three units of household composter began to be actively used with kitchen waste and EM4. Analysis shows a significant increase in public knowledge related to herbal -based health and environmentally friendly waste management. The discussion confirms that the integration of digitalization, organic compost, and toga not only strengthens data-based governance, but also encourages food independence, health, and preservation of local wisdom. This finding implies that holistic digital nagari transformation models can be an effective strategy to strengthen governance, improve welfare, and support sustainable development. This research contributes conceptual and practical to the development of local village based on local wisdom that can be replicated in other nagari.

Abstract

Shallots are a strategic horticultural commodity with high economic value, making them a crucial source of income for farmers in North Lombok. However, their productivity remains relatively low, largely due to the intensive use of chemical fertilizers, which contributes to the degradation of soil fertility. Therefore, this community engagement activity aimed to introduce and assist farmers in Anyar Village—particularly members of the Lembah Subur Farmer Group—in applying silicate-based fertilizer technology to shallot cultivation. The methodology included problem identification, socialization of liquid silicate fertilizer, implementation of comparative demonstration plots between the use of silicate-based fertilizer (Orrin) and conventional farming practices commonly adopted by farmers, as well as technical field assistance. The results revealed a positive response from farmers toward the implementation of Orrin fertilizer, both in terms of application simplicity and fertilization cost efficiency. Visually, shallot plants treated with Orrin exhibited more optimal vegetative growth, characterized by more erect posture, greener leaves, and a higher number of leaves compared to plants without Orrin application. This positive response indicates farmers’ readiness to adopt environmentally friendly technologies with the potential to enhance productivity. The application of silicate fertilizer (Orrin) proved effective in improving the vegetative growth of shallots and increasing farmers’ awareness of the significance of sustainable fertilization innovations.

Abstract

The ability to write scientific articles is an essential competency for students to develop academic capacity, enhance scientific literacy, and foster critical as well as systematic thinking skills. However, preliminary surveys indicated that most students of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Negeri Makassar, still encountered difficulties in preparing scientific articles properly. This community service activity aimed to improve students’ understanding and writing skills through training based on the IMRAD structure (Introduction, Method, Result, and Discussion). The program was conducted over eight weeks using a participatory approach, consisting of four main stages: material delivery, article drafting assistance, manuscript review, and selection of articles for publication. Evaluation was carried out through pre-test and post-test questionnaires and writing skill assessments using a 1–5 scale. The results showed significant improvement in students’ understanding and writing ability, with average scores categorized as good to very good. Participants became more skilled in composing the results, discussion, and conclusion sections, as reflected in the consistent increase in evaluation scores. As a tangible output, two student articles were successfully published, one in a national journal and another in the proceedings of an international conference. These findings indicate that IMRAD-based training is effective in enhancing students’ academic competencies and producing publishable scientific works.

Abstract

The Women Farmers Group KUB YASINTA in Sokawera Village, Cilongok Subdistrict, Banyumas Regency, is a farmer group that provides food for families and improves the surrounding community's welfare. However, they have limited knowledge and skills in applying cultivation technology, which has resulted in suboptimal productivity in their farming businesses. This community service activity introduced appropriate technology in the intercropping pattern. The community service activities will be carried out from May to September 2025. The implementation methods included socialization, counseling, practice of intercropping chili, eggplant, spinach, and water spinach, and the creation of demonstration plots as a means of direct learning. Activity results showed respondents experienced a 39.7% increase in their understanding of the concept of intercropping. Before the training, only 63% of respondents understood intercropping, and after the training, the respondents' understanding increased to 88%. Intercropping has the potential to increase productivity and diversify agricultural yields. The Women Farmers Group members have understood the concept, objectives, and advantages of cultivation through the application of intercropping patterns, the selection of intercrops, the implementation of cultivation, and plant care using intercropping patterns. This activity is expected to become a model for sustainable farming based on local resources, which can be replicated in other areas with similar characteristics, while contributing to food security and increasing farmers' family income.
