Abstract

Increasing the capacity of health cadres in underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost (3T) areas is a strategic step in supporting digital health transformation in Indonesia. Health cadres as the frontline in health services have an important role in improving access and quality of services in hard-to-reach areas. The purpose of this community service is to increase the knowledge of health cadres about the benefits of digital health, especially telehealth. Efforts to increase knowledge are carried out through organizing workshops for health cadres related to digital health transformation and telehealth utilization as well as socialization and education activities related to the adaptation of digital health technology. Changes in knowledge levels were measured using questionnaires before and after the activity. The targets of the activity amounted to 31 health cadres. The results of the analysis showed an average level of positive change in knowledge with an increase in the knowledge of health cadres (93,5%) in workshop activities and (100%) in socialization and education activities. The results of this activity provide provisions for health cadres to increase their role in utilizing digital health with the knowledge that has been obtained during community service activities. In addition, through this community service activity it is also a reference for policy makers in equalizing digital health transformation and achieving health development targets.

Abstract

This study focuses on the importance of reproductive health education for adolescents as an effort to improve knowledge and attitudes in facing puberty and mental health. Adolescents, aged 10-19 years according to WHO and 10-18 years according to the Indonesian Ministry of Health, are in a critical transition period that affects their physical, mental and social health. Lack of knowledge about puberty and how to deal with it can have a negative impact on reproductive health, including the risk of anemia, obesity, and mental health problems experienced by more than a third of adolescents in Indonesia. As a solution, Adolescent Posyandu was implemented at SMP Negeri 57 Surabaya by involving Student Health Unit (UKS) cadres as peer tutors. This activity is a collaboration between the Midwife Professional Education Study Program of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Airlangga, Siwalankerto Health Center and the University of Brunei Darussalam, was carried out on November 8, 2024 and attended by 26 students. The program consisted of five stages of service: registration, health checks (blood pressure, weight, height, upper arm circumference (LiLA), abdominal circumference (LP)), recording, nutrition in health education, and counseling. In addition, counseling on puberty, nutrition, and mental health was delivered through educational games to improve the cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects of adolescents. The results showed an increase in participants' understanding of physical changes during puberty, the importance of nutrition, and the important role of peers in supporting mental health through educational games. UKS cadres are expected to act as pioneers in disseminating the information and knowledge gained to their peers, thus creating a school environment that supports adolescent health. The long-term positive impact is expected to contribute to the achievement of the 3rd Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), namely ensuring healthy lives and well-being for all ages by 2030. The implementation of the program went smoothly with the support of the Puskesmas and the school, demonstrating the effectiveness of the peer education approach in improving adolescent health status.

Abstract

Catfish (Clarias sp.) is a leading fishery commodity in Indonesia, prized for its taste and disease resistance, making it an ideal choice for farming even in areas with limited water and land. The Insanul Kamil Al-Khaer Orphanage in Sidoarjo, as a social foundation, faces challenges in providing productive and educational activities for its residents. Currently, the orphanage offers only worship and basic school activities for the children. To address this, the Community Service Program implemented a solution based on science and technology that would provide additional income, improve nutrition, and offer valuable learning experiences. The Community Service Program introduced the Budikdamber (fish farming in buckets) system, which is simple to set up and does not require extensive land or water. The program was implemented in three stages: preparing the materials, conducting socialization and training, and providing ongoing assistance in managing the catfish cultivation system using Budikdamber with passive circulation technology. After completing one full cycle of cultivation, the Community Service Program showed that the Budikdamber system improved food security, provided a steady income from surplus fish and vegetables, and reduced reliance on external donations. The program also highlighted the educational benefits for the children involved in managing the system. These results confirm the potential of the Budikdamber system to enhance community empowerment and sustainability. The Community Service Program provides a model for replication in other orphanages and community-based institutions. Further Community Service Programs are needed to evaluate the long-term impact and scalability of this innovative approach.

Abstract

The increasing demand for Indonesian workers with professional competence and high competitiveness in the international job market, particularly in Germany, requires individuals to be well-prepared in drafting application documents that meet global standards. Pratiwi & Mutmainah (2021) emphasize that career readiness is not only focused on individual aspects but also has a broader social impact by empowering communities to access better job opportunities. However, there remains a gap in understanding how to create an effective Curriculum Vitae (CV), especially in the context of German recruitment requirements, which demand a specific structure and format. In response to these challenges, the CV Masterclass workshop was designed to train participants in drafting and improving their CVs to make them more attractive, professional, and aligned with German standards. This activity aimed to help participants understand the key components of an effective CV, provide practical skills in writing and designing CVs, and boost their confidence in job applications. The methods used included direct training sessions, mentoring by two lecturers from the German Language Education undergraduate program at Universitas Negeri Malang (UM), and the distribution of questionnaires to measure the effectiveness of the activity. The workshop was held on May 20, 2024, at the Self Access Centre German Corner, Universitas Negeri Malang (UM), with 14 participants. The results showed that participants successfully created more competitive CVs relevant to the demands of the German job market. Additionally, they reported increased confidence in the job application process. This workshop also had a broader social impact by providing better access for Indonesian workers to secure jobs in the formal sector and participate in specialized programs in Germany, such as Ausbildung, Au-Pair, and professional employment in various fields. Through a follow-up mechanism, participants uploaded their CVs to Google Drive for review by facilitators, receiving valuable feedback to improve the quality of their CVs. The long-term impact of this activity not only enhances individual readiness to compete globally but also contributes to community empowerment. As more Indonesian workers possess high-quality CVs that meet international standards, their chances of securing employment in Germany increase significantly. Moreover, this training is expected to become part of a sustainable community service initiative, supporting broader economic and social growth.

Abstract

The results of the 2023 Basic Health Research in East Java showed that 98.5% of severe ODGJ had received mental health services, but this achievement still did not meet the target. The imbalance between the increase in cases and the number of patients seeking treatment is a major challenge. One of the contributing factors is the lack of continuous monitoring by limited health workers. Therefore, this mental health counseling activity aims to increase the role of families in supporting the recovery of ODGJ patients through education and assistance. This activity was carried out in Sumberwaru Village for one day and involved 8 ODGJ families and 22 mothers of toddlers and the elderly. The methods used included counseling through lectures, interactive discussions, and question and answer sessions. Evaluation of success was carried out with a pre-test and post-test to measure the increase in participants' understanding before and after the activity. In addition, direct observation was carried out on family involvement in caring for patients, such as reminding them to take medication and taking them to the mental health post. The evaluation results showed an increase in participants' understanding from 69.33% in the pre-test to 90.66% in the post-test, indicating success in increasing family awareness of their role in accompanying ODGJ. In addition, families were more active in ensuring that patients received the necessary care. In conclusion, family-based counseling is effective in increasing family understanding and involvement in ODGJ care, so it can help prevent relapse and improve the patient's quality of life.

Abstract

The low level of financial literacy among MSMEs directly impacts poor accountability practices. Without a sufficient understanding of basic accounting concepts, MSMEs struggle to record transactions systematically and accurately. Their ability to prepare comprehensive financial statements is crucial not only for meeting internal requirements but also for enhancing competitiveness on a global scale. To address the issues related to accountability practices, educational efforts on balance sheets, income statements, and the preparation of application-based financial reports are essential. The community service activity titled "Enhancing Accountability of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises in Malang City to Support Global Competitiveness" was conducted on Sunday, July 14, 2024, at the Malang Creative Center, involving 22 MSMEs that are members of the Malang Small Traders Association (Paguyuban Seduluran Sak Lawase). This service activity included pre-tests and post-tests, as well as presentations on how to prepare balance sheets and income statements, and an introduction to accounting applications. All participants showed an increase in knowledge, with post-test scores averaging at least 80. These results indicate that participants have grasped how to prepare balance sheets and income statements, demonstrating that the training materials were effective in enhancing participants' knowledge.

Abstract

The Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) outbreak that began in 2022 caused significant losses for dairy farmers in Medowo Village, Kandangan District, Kediri Regency—impacting both livestock health and farmers' economic stability. To address these impacts, a community service program was carried out to improve farmers' knowledge and skills in dairy cattle housing management and biosecurity implementation. The program included training sessions, educational outreach, and technical assistance for 31 farmers from KUD Kertajaya. Evaluation was conducted through pre-test and post-test instruments to measure the effectiveness of the intervention. Pre-test results showed that only 6.5% of participants were in the "good–very good" category in terms of understanding FMD and livestock management. After the intervention, post-test results showed a significant increase, with 87% of participants reaching the "good–very good" level. Additionally, in terms of practical application of cattle management practices, 100% of participants demonstrated excellent understanding after the program. This intervention proved that an educational approach combining outreach and hands-on practice can significantly enhance farmers' awareness and skills. The improvement is expected to contribute to better livestock productivity and more effective disease control. The activity also involved undergraduate students as part of the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program, fostering collaboration between academia and the farming community to strengthen local capacity.

Abstract

This community service program is implemented in an island region that has limited access to electricity and fuel. This program is implemented on Gili Iyang Island, Sumenep, Madura. On the island, the only mode of transportation available is motorbikes and three-wheeled motorbikes due to limited and narrow roads. The price of gasoline reaches two to four times the normal price. Based on these conditions, the issue raised in this community service program is the use of electric bicycles for mobility, with the hope that it can also be a means of supporting the main tourist attraction of the island known as "Oxygen Island". This program is training for the community on how to assemble and maintain electric bicycles. The electric bicycles used in this program are designed with compact and flexible advantages, equipped with lithium batteries with a range of up to 30 km. In addition, there is a pedal assist feature to make it easier to pedal when needed, such as when going uphill or crossing sandy roads. For recharging electric bicycles, a solar shelter is provided, which helps save transportation costs. Training is provided through theoretical and practical materials. Participants can directly implement the theory that has been conveyed when practicing assembling bicycles. Based on the results of the pre and post tests, in general, there was an increase of 17-50% in the knowledge and skills of participants related to the assembly and maintenance of electric bicycles. This is a very strong belief that the Gili Iyang community has been able to use and maintain electric bicycles.

Abstract

Waste is a classic problem for developing countries like Indonesia. Coastal areas are one of the areas that most vulnerable to environmental problems, especially those related to plastic waste. This community service activity aims to increase community knowledge about the importance of waste management and encourage them to turn waste into handicraft products that have economic value. This community service activity is in partnership with the community in the Keputih coastal area and local community leaders in RT VII RW VIII Keputih. The method used is to provide counseling, training and assistance to the community. Evaluation of activities is carried out by assessing: 1) knowledge about waste (inorganic and organic that is difficult to decompose) through pre-test and post-test regarding educational materials, 2) assessment of the ability to practice waste management (crafting) and 3) Impact of activities is carried out by reviewing Has waste management been implemented from households to TPS? The education and assistance on waste management, including sorting and making handicrafts from waste, has been successful with 3 indicators achieved, namely the presence of the community in counseling (80%), 65% of the target community has increased their knowledge, and 75% of the target community has sorted waste and made crafts from plastic waste. It is hoped that community service activities can be sustainable, such as providing education to target communities regarding how to sell handicrafts made from waste, and collaborating with other parties that can improve the branding of handicraft products.
