Abstract

School Medical Room (UKS) have an important role in instilling healthy living behavior and improving students' health through the implementation of the "Trias UKS" model, which includes Health Education, Health Services, and Healthy School Environment Development. As an effort to improve the quality of UKS implementation, schools are encouraged to achieve stratification standards ranging from minimal to optimal levels. However, the establishment of School Health Efforts (UKS) faces various challenges that can hinder its optimal implementation. These challenges include limited resources, both in terms of funding, facilities, and trained health workers. Suboptimal coordination between schools, health offices, and communities is also an obstacle to the alignment of sustainable health programs. However, if these challenges can be overcome, UKS has the potential to provide a significant long-term impact on the health of students and the school community. Increasing health awareness from an early age can form healthy living habits that are carried into adulthood. Realizing the importance of the existence of UKS in schools and the desire to form adolescents who are aware of health, the Poltekkes Kemenkes Malang initiated a community service program to establish UKS facilities at MTS and MAS Al-Fatah, Malang Regency, which previously did not have such facilities. This community service activity was carried out on August 10, 2024, involving training for representatives of local governments, health centers, teachers, and students, with a focus on the formation and management of UKS. The methods used included lectures, discussions, and interactive Q&A sessions guided by the committee. The main results of this activity were the formation of the UKS committee, the signing of an integrity pact, and the provision of essential medical equipment for UKS. Pre- and post-tests showed a significant increase in participant knowledge, with post-test scores reflecting a 50% increase in understanding. This program aims to empower school communities to manage health services independently and become a model for similar programs in other areas. The success of this initiative at MTS and MAS Al-Fatah is expected to inspire the development of UKS in other schools in Malang Regency. Keywords: Formation of UKS, UKS knowledge, UKS Al-Fatah Turen.

Abstract

This community service activity focuses on implementing an automatic nutrient control system called Airoponik (Airlangga Robot Hydroponic) for hydroponic farmer groups in Panderejo hamlet, Gempol, East Java. The system was developed to address the challenges in maintaining precise nutrient concentrations in hydroponic systems, which is crucial for optimal plant growth. The Airoponik prototype integrates Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) sensors, temperature sensors, and an automated control system based on ESP32 microcontroller, enabling automatic adjustment of nutrient levels within a ±5% tolerance range. The implementation process included prototype development, laboratory testing, and technology dissemination to the community. Testing results demonstrated successful nutrient control at various target levels (400, 700, and 1000 ppm). In addition to the functionality of the Airoponik system, its compact, suitcase-style design facilitates easy installation and adjustment of the device in space-constrained environments. To ensure effectiveness, observations revealed that the aeroponic system required only 43% of the maintenance time compared to conventional systems. The community response was highly positive, with 88% of participants expressing interest in adopting the technology, and achieving dissemination impact scores of 4.2/5.0. The integration with existing solar-powered hydroponic systems proved successful, providing a sustainable solution for automated nutrient management without dependence on grid electricity.

Abstract

Pendem Village, Ngariboyo District, Magetan Regency is one of the villages that has the potential for cattle farming. However, cattle breeders in Pendem Village have problems, namely the high incidence of repeated mating in females mated through artificial insemination (AI) and the lack of availability of animal feed in the dry season. The solutions offered in this activity are (1) increasing the knowledge of BUMDes Tirto Mulyo Pendem cattle breeders about cattle reproductive disorders and (2) processing agricultural waste as animal feed in Pendem Village. The output target to be achieved is to increase the understanding of breeders regarding the reproduction of beef cattle and how to process it by making haylage and fermenting agricultural waste. The method used to achieve these output targets is through 2 stages, namely counseling and training. Based on the results of the pre- and post-test, it shows that there is an increase in the knowledge and abilities of breeders related to reproduction and processing of feed derived from agricultural waste, detection of estrus in female cattle, reporting on reproductive health disorders in cattle, causes and symptoms of reproductive disorders in female cattle, the importance of vaccination and animal health programs, cleanliness of pens, cleanliness of individual cattle and fermentation of feed shows an increase in participants who are very knowledgeable from around 0% - 15% to around 4% - 20.7%, it is expected to support the productivity of beef cattle in Pendem Village.

Abstract

Anxiety, frequent urination, back pain, swollen feet, shortness of breath, and groin ache are just a few of the physical and mental changes that a pregnant woman may encounter. Yoga during pregnancy can help women feel less uncomfortable. To avoid trauma and ensure that the yoga poses are performed correctly, pregnant women who practice pregnancy yoga must be accompanied by a qualified facilitator. Thus, the purpose of this community service project was to improve midwives' prenatal yoga knowledge and proficiency. It is intended that by organizing this community service event, midwives would be able to assist in the local adoption of prenatal yoga. In order to complete this community service project, 23 midwives received training at the Comoro Health Centre in Dili, Timor Leste. The training took place from May 6 to 8, 2024 and was implemented in cooperation with the Comoro Health Centre. Activity technique: The midwife completes a form with multiple prenatal yoga-related questions before receiving the material (pre-test). Then, the material is provided, and prenatal yoga practice continues. Finally, the training participants are given additional questions (post-test) to determine whether their understanding of the prenatal yoga material has increased. Zoom media is used to do community service projects online. Results: A p value of 0.001 < 0.05 was achieved from the Wilcoxon statistical test used to measure pre and post knowledge levels. In summary: Midwives' understanding of prenatal yoga is effectively increased through community service that offers health education. Following the completion of this service, it is anticipated that the Comoro Health Center's midwives would be able to use the knowledge they have acquired to assist pregnant patients in their workplace.

Abstract

Child marriage remains a prevalent issue in many regions, including Indonesia. This practice is associated with significant adverse outcomes, such as interrupted education, elevated maternal morbidity and mortality rates, and prolonged the cycle of poverty. Synchronous learning can foster critical thinking, enabling audience to challenge harmful social norms and traditions that perpetuate child marriage. Thus, to this study aims to improve knowledge about child marriage among residents of Tanjungan Village, Mojokerto, through synchronous learning interventions. By employing a mixed-methods research design, a survey and interview following a synchronous learning from six experts on child marriage, the study explores the current understanding of respondents' knowledge of the minimum marriage age, the effects of child marriage, and evaluates the effectiveness of synchronous learning programs in enhancing knowledge towards delaying marriage. Sixty-five adolescents and adults from Tanjungan Village, Mojokerto District, East Java, participated in synchronous learning on regulation of child marriage and its consequences. A questionnaire is distributed to assess their knowledge of government regulations on the minimum age of marriage, minimum and maximum age of marriage, and age disparity during marriage before and after the activity followed by interviews with five participants, whom willing to be interviewed, to further explore their understanding of child marriage. The results show an increase in knowledge of the legal age for marriage (from 89.23% to 100%), with females demonstrating a higher level of understanding of this regulation. Interestingly, after the intervention, respondents' understanding of the maximum age limit for marriage varied more, with the majority suggesting ages between 21 and 26. These findings suggest that direct learning interventions can be effective in increasing awareness about child marriage, particularly regarding legal age limits. However, further research is needed to explore the long-term impact of these interventions and to develop strategies to address the underlying social and cultural factors that contribute to child marriage.

Abstract

The International Community Services program (ICS) at Universitas Airlangga, part of the Tri Dharma of the university focusing on community service, aims to enhance human resource capacities within communities. In 2024, the program targeted Senden Village, Kampak sub-District, Trenggalek District, East Java, Indonesia, to assist its MSMEs in overcoming packaging challenges that hinder market interest. Collaborating with domestic and international universities, including Universitas Mayjen Sungkono, SMBBMU University Larkana Pakistan, UiTM Negeri Sembilan Malaysia, UM Malaysia, and Meijo University Japan, the program provided intensive training on innovative and functional packaging techniques. This program was chosen and considered urgent because processed food products produced by local MSMEs are still sold in bulk and packaged haphazardly. Therefore, a touch of hygienic and "eye-catching" packaging technology is needed. Attractive and hygienic packaging technology is expected to increase the selling power of these processed food products. The training included theoretical sessions, focus group discussion (FGD) demonstrations, and the introduction of plastic vacuum sealers to improve product packaging and branding. Food packaging workshop held on July 15, 2024, where participants engaged in hands-on training, group discussions, and label design, resulting in tangible improvements in product marketability. The initiative of this activity is not only to increase the visibility and attractiveness of Senden Village products but also to introduce the natural exotism of the village and local products to the national and international community, encouraging cultural and knowledge exchange. The collaboration of this program strengthens international collaboration and provides invaluable experience for students and lecturers. The successful implementation of this program confirms Airlangga University's commitment to community service and its goal of creating a sustainable positive impact on the village community, which ultimately contributes to the development of better human resources. The training has been carried out very well and each training participant has their own brand with an attractive logo and is hygienically packaged with vacuum technology. All training participants were satisfied with this activity as well as head of village, head of PKK, and all the team involved. They hope that next year's activities can be carried out with other innovations for the progress of Senden village.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of information technology has significantly impacted the public service sector, including in Alang-Alang Village, Tragah Subdistrict, Bangkalan Regency. Although the Alang-Alang Village Government has developed the Smart Village application, which is used by only around 30% of the population, the village lacks an adequate platform for delivering public service information. To address this issue, a community service initiative was carried out to provide training for village officials in creating and managing a village website. The training involved 25 participants, including the Village Head, village officials, representatives from Tragah Subdistrict, and residents of Alang-Alang Village. The event was held in person at the Alang-Alang Village Office, with the main focus on introducing website features designed to improve transparency, efficiency, and digital-based services. The training covered website management, data privacy, and integration with local policies, facilitated by trainers and mentors from Universitas Airlangga. The effectiveness of the training was assessed using pre- and post-training surveys to measure the participants' improvement in website management skills. Preliminary results indicate that after the launch of the website, there was a noticeable increase in website traffic, with an estimated 40% more residents accessing the platform for public service information. In comparison to the existing Smart Village application, the new website proved to be more user-friendly and accessible to a broader audience, regardless of their device type. To enhance technology adoption, strategies have been implemented to increase awareness and engagement among the community, including follow-up training and continued promotion of the website's benefits.

Abstract

Tidal flooding is one of the hydrometeorological disasters caused by extreme weather that frequently affects the coastal area of Kampung Nelayan, Kedung Cowek Subdistrict, Surabaya City. Based on risk analysis, the community’s level of knowledge and attitude in responding to disasters plays a crucial role in mitigation efforts; thus, training and the initiation of a disaster response community are necessary. This community service program aimed to provide theoretical education and practical training on Basic Life Support (BLS), accompanied by the initiation of a fishermen disaster response community for 35 people of Kampung Nelayan, Kedung Cowek. The program was conducted at the Kedung Cowek Village Hall and included: (1) BLS education through presentations, (2) practical simulation of chest compressions using a mannequin and evacuation with a stretcher, (3) distribution of personal protective equipment for fishermen, and (4) the establishment of a disaster response community. Improvements in knowledge and attitude were measured using pre- and post-test questionnaires and analyzed with the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test in SPSS with significance level at 0,05. The results showed a significant increase in knowledge (68.66 ± 21.68 vs 95.33 ± 2.61) and attitude (50.71 ± 14.24 vs 64.95 ± 3.27) (p < 0.01). The initiation of a disaster response coastal community is expected to strengthen the tidal flood management system through adequate BLS provision, so the capacity and resilience of coastal communities are sustainably maintained.
