Abstract

This study examines the relevance of Fiqh curriculum innovation within the Merdeka Curriculum in relation to Islamic educational thought espoused by Fethullah Gülen, particularly in the context of learning outcomes in Indonesian madrasahs. The primary aim is to identify the alignment between Gülen’s educational principles (which emphasize the integration of spiritual, intellectual, and social values) by the character based and contextual approach of the Merdeka Curriculum, especially in the subject of Fiqh within the madrasah environment. This research employs a qualitative library research method, analyzing curriculum documents (specifically the 2022 and 2024 decrees issued by the Directorate General of Islamic Education) alongside literature on Gülen’s educational philosophy. The findings indicate that the 2022 Fiqh Learning Outcomes are more compatible with Gülen’s framework than those of 2024, as they support the development of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS), character formation, and social responsibility. Conversely, the 2024 outcomes tend to simplify the content and risk hindering the attainment of holistic competencies. The study concludes that the innovation of the Fiqh curriculum in madrasahs holds significant potential for shaping a religious, inclusive, and open-minded generation when integrated with the educational principles advocated by Fethullah Gülen.

Abstract

The presence of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) in the field of education introduces new dynamics in the learning process, particularly in relation to the development of students' critical thinking skills. This study aims to explore students' perceptions of GenAI usage and its impact on their critical thinking abilities. A descriptive quantitative approach was employed, involving 101 students from the Primary School Teacher Education (PGSD) Program at Universitas Katolik Musi Charitas. Data were collected through an online questionnaire covering various aspects of critical thinking and students’ interactions with GenAI. The findings reveal that most students (47,52 %) perceive GenAI as a moderately helpful tool in supporting critical thinking; however, they are 70, 3 % also aware of its potential to reduce critical thinking quality when used without reflection or verification. While a positive trend is observed (56 %) in the practice of cross-checking information, challenges remain, including low information literacy and lack of knowledge regarding credible sources (56,4 %), insufficient procedural understanding (38,5%) and limited time (30,8). Therefore, the integration of GenAI in educational contexts must be supported by pedagogical strategies that promote digital literacy and strengthen students' critical thinking skills to ensure that technology is utilized optimally and responsibly in academic settings.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the role of Self-Directed Learning (SDL) in mediating the influence of Teaching Enthusiasme (TE) on Professional Identity (PI) among students of the Teacher Professional Education Program (PPG) in Indonesia. Using quantitative survey methods and path analysis to analyze the data, this study involved 170 respondents consisting of Professional Education Program (PPG) students at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta. The results showed that SDL functions as a critical full mediator between Teaching Enthusiasm and Professional Identity formation. SDL allows students to manage their learning process independently, which in turn increases their engagement in learning and strengthens a professional identity that is relevant to current educational demands. A positive learning environment, intrinsic motivation, and support from mentors were found to contribute significantly to fostering SDL as well as the development of Professional Identity. This study highlights the importance of Teaching Enthusiasm and SDL in shaping professional and adaptive educators, who are able to meet the ever-evolving needs of education. These findings are in line with previous theories that state that SDL not only improves students' academic abilities but also strengthens their character and professional attitudes. Thus, the development of SDL should be a primary focus in teacher education curriculum, so that prospective educators can be better prepared to face challenges in the dynamic world of education. This study provides valuable insights for the development of teacher education programs in Indonesia, and emphasizes the need for SDL integration in learning practices to produce high-quality educators.

Abstract

Learning motivation is a crucial factor influencing students' academic achievement and character development. This study aims to analyze the learning motivation level of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Wonosari and explore the relevance of using the Socratic dialogue technique in guidance and counseling services. The study used a quantitative approach with a survey method, involving 90 students as respondents. The instrument used was a learning motivation scale based on the Self-Determination theory by Deci and Ryan, which includes aspects of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. The results showed that 57.45% of students were in the medium motivation category, 25.53% were low, and 17.02% were high. All students showed a dominance of extrinsic motivation (100%), with no indication of intrinsic motivation. This finding indicates that students are highly dependent on external factors for learning. The Socratic dialogue technique is considered relevant because it can build students' motivation from within through reflective questions and critical thinking. The implications of this study provide recommendations for guidance and counseling teachers to develop reflective dialogue-based services to foster sustainable and independent learning motivation.
