Abstract

This research aims to build students’ mathematical identity by developing gamification-based learning media on the Wordwall platform. Employing a Research and Development (R&D) approach with the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation), the study involved 30 seventh-grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Pare, Kediri Regency. Data were collected through observation, interviews, questionnaires, and pre–post mathematical identity tests. Expert validation results showed the media was highly valid (average score = 4.36). At the same time, the N-Gain value of 0.57 (moderate) indicated a significant improvement in students’ mathematical identity, particularly in engagement (0.66), value and meaning (0.54), and self-confidence (0.52). These findings demonstrate that gamification does not merely enhance cognitive learning outcomes but also constructs mathematical identity through positive social–emotional experiences, such as collaboration, reflection, and recognition. Theoretically, this research supports Boaler’s (2021) concept of mathematical freedom and Martin’s (2019) theory of social positioning, and, practically, offers an inclusive digital learning model that encourages confidence, engagement, and meaningful participation in mathematics. Abstract

Polite behavior reflects students' character and personality at school and could indirectly affect student achievement. The primary purpose of this study is to analyze group guidance services to improve positive student behavior, using a case study of class X MPLB students at Vocational High School Tamansiswa Sukoharjo. The method used is qualitative descriptive analysis through questionnaires, observations, and group discussions. The results of the study indicated that personal interests considerably dominated 47.15% of students' life needs. While study, social, and career needs were 19.69%, 17.77%, and 16.39%, respectively. The results of student observations conducted before the group guidance service indicated that 18 students behaved in an impolite manner. After the group guidance service intervention, the number of students who behaved in an impolite manner decreased to 5. Impolite behavior among students included using impolite language (cursing), mocking (bullying), and dressing untidily. However, rude behavior among individuals tended to decrease significantly after the group guidance service. Therefore, group guidance services are highly effective in promoting positive behavior among students, and they could be widely applied in other schools. Abstract

This study analyzes student cheating from the perspective of Eric Fromm’s theory of freedom, focusing on the contradictions inherent in such behavior. Using a qualitative-descriptive approach, data were collected from 13 university students via purposive sampling, semi-structured questionnaires, interviews, and exam observations. Analysis followed the Miles and Huberman model. The results indicate that cheating arises from Fromm’s “contradiction of freedom,” in which the need for social attachment and the fear of alienation conflict with internal moral values such as honesty. Students choose cheating as an authoritarian escape mechanism, sacrificing autonomy to meet external expectations, which in turn triggers inner turmoil, including guilt and anxiety. The study recommends that universities establish counseling services to help students navigate these conflicts and develop a more authentic, responsible form of freedom. Keywords: contradiction of freedom, cheating, freedom according to eric fromm, attachment and isolation

Abstract

Tenth-grade students often face a variety of new tasks and demands that are denser and more rigorous. This triggers academic burnout. Therefore, this study aims to examine the effectiveness of an art therapy approach in group counseling for reducing academic burnout among tenth-grade students. Using a pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design with 10 samples of students with high levels of academic burnout. Data were collected using the School Burnout Inventory (SBI) administered before and after 5 sessions of intervention meetings. The results of the analysis showed a significant decrease (p = 0.002) in the level of academic burnout in the experimental group (mean 25.80) compared to the control group (mean 28.20). The intervention appears effective in reducing academic burnout. Based on this, schools are advised to consider the use of group counseling with an art therapy approach as an intervention to address academic burnout, with the expectation that it will improve emotional well-being and academic achievement. Abstract

Islamic boarding school students play a crucial role in promoting religious moderation among Generation Z, who are at risk of extremism due to misleading information. The Respect-Based Assessment approach in religious counseling provides a solution by focusing on respect for individual values and understanding students' perspectives to foster moderate and tolerant attitudes. This qualitative research, using field research methods such as interviews and observations, aims to explore how religious counseling helps build religious moderation among students. The study found that students who participated in this counseling experienced increased self-awareness, tolerance for differences, and social engagement. Clerics, acting as counselors, contribute to this process through education, dialogue, and serving as role models, which further encourages moderate behavior among students. Efforts include enhancing Generation Z's understanding of diversity, providing guidance during identity crises, promoting intergenerational dialogue, and addressing stigma and contemporary challenges through religious counseling. Abstract

Bullying has increasingly affected elementary school students, with prevalence estimated at 25%. However, there is a lack of definitive data comparing bullying incidents between public and private elementary schools. This study aimed to compare the incidence of verbal and physical bullying among students at two elementary schools in Jayapura. A cross-sectional design was used, conducted in July 2024. The study involved a total population of 987 students, with a purposive sample of 102 students each from Inpres II Waena State Elementary School (public) and Muhammadiyah Elementary School (private). Data were collected via questionnaires and analyzed using Stata 14, applying bivariate analyses with chi-square tests. Findings revealed that verbal bullying was more prevalent at Inpres II Waena State Elementary School (66.7%) compared to Muhammadiyah Elementary School. Key factors associated with bullying included gender, age at first experience of bullying, and the availability of complaint channels. Verbal bullying often manifests as teasing or jokes, which are normalized due to the absence of firm sanctions for perpetrators. These results highlight the need for stronger school policies and structured reporting systems to address verbal bullying in both public and private school settings. Abstract

Radicalism among university students shows a worrying trend, especially through the penetration of intolerant ideologies on social media; therefore, a value-based preventive approach is needed. The purpose of this study is to develop a Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) group counseling model based on Ahlussunnah wal Jamaah (ASWAJA) values to enhance students’ religious moderation. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) design following the Borg and Gall model, encompassing preliminary studies, model design, expert validation, and field testing. The expert validation yielded a feasibility score of 130, categorized as good and appropriate. The effectiveness test utilized a pre-test–post-test control group design involving 20 students from Universitas Islam Negeri K.H. Abdurrahman Wahid Pekalongan selected through purposive sampling. Data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively using a paired sample t-test. The results revealed a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05) and an N-Gain of 60.09% (moderate), indicating the model’s effectiveness in improving religious moderation. This study presents an innovative counseling model that integrates REBT with ASWAJA values, contributing theoretically to the development of value-based REBT approaches and, practically, as a preventive framework against radicalism in higher education. Keywords: group counseling, REBT, ASWAJA, radicalism, religious moderation
