Abstract

This study aims to examine self-regulated learning based on gender using two factors, namely social support and campus culture, and analyze the moderation effects presented by these two factors. This study was a quantitative approach with an expost facto method. The population was all students in the Social Sciences Education Study Program of the Parepare State Islamic Institute for the 2019-2023 batch of 116 students. There were 34 men and 82 women. The research sample took a saturated sample, namely the entire population. The data collection techniques were questionnaires, documentation, and interviews. Testing the research hypothesis was carried out using SmartPLS. The study found that social support significantly increased SRL, with a stronger effect on male students than female students. A positive campus culture also increases SRL, but its effect is weaker on female students. Campus culture moderates the effect of social support on SRL, amplifying its effectiveness, especially in male students. Social support also moderated the effect of campus culture on SRL, strengthening the motivation and confidence of male students, although the impact was slightly weaker on female students but still relevant. These results suggest that social support and campus culture enhance SRL, particularly among male students. It is crucial to design interventions that consider gender differences to achieve the best possible results.

Abstract

This research aims to develop an incubation model to improve curator’s competencies on new media art curatorial practice. The incubation model contains a series of learning modules by which Indonesian young curators acquire theoretical knowledge and practical skills to develop and execute a new media art curatorial project. This research used a qualitative approach with a method of design-based research. The research process includes analysis, design, implementation, and evaluation. After analysing the mentees’ curatorial competencies, incubation model was designed based on four steps of curation: (1) Concept Development, (2) Artwork Selection, (3) Exhibition Design, and (4) Exhibition Communication. The research participants include 8 mentors, 9 mentees, and 3 facilitators for June mentorship, and 3 mentors, 2 curators, 4 artists, and 4 organizers for November exhibition. Data were collected through participatory observation, document studies, and personal reflection, which were interpreted through content analysis method. The result of the research is that implementing the four steps of curation in the new media art curator incubation model led to an improvement in 10 curatorial competencies for two mentees, and mostly 8 curatorial competencies for seven mentees. However, the limitation of this research is that ARCOLABS, the incubator, provided different levels of management to its mentees. Therefore, the research recommends that ARCOLABS should ensure fair treatment to all mentees to properly evaluate the improvement of curatorial competencies. For future research, the new media art curator incubation model should be redesigned and appropriately implemented to meet the required curatorial competencies.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the influence of habits of mind and cognitive style (field dependent and field independent) on the critical thinking ability of high school students. This research employs a mixed-method approach with an explanatory sequential design and a QUAN → qual model. The population consists of all 11th-grade high school students in Sintang Regency, West Kalimantan Province, with a sample of 385 students and 19 students serving as interview informants. The instruments used include a critical thinking ability test, habits of mind questionnaire, GEFT, and interview guidelines. The analysis techniques employed are descriptive analysis, inferential analysis, and qualitative analysis based on Miles & Huberman. The results show that habits of mind and cognitive style simultaneously have a significant influence on critical thinking ability. Furthermore, based on the coefficient of determination, it is found that habits of mind and cognitive style together have the power to explain critical thinking ability. The implication is that teachers need to adjust learning strategies based on students' cognitive styles and develop habits of mind to improve their critical thinking skills.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to develop a didactic design for cube nets based on the ethnomathematics of the Engklek game in elementary schools. This study uses a design research approach using the Didactical Design Research (DDR) method. The participants in this research are 5th and 6th grade students at an elementary school in Serang-Banten. The research goes through three stages: 1) prospective analysis, 2) metapedadidactic analysis, and 3) retrospective analysis. Data collection techniques included tests, observations, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis techniques employed qualitative descriptive analysis based on Miles & Huberman's data triangulation model. The results of this research show that: 1) In the retrospective stage, obstacles such as conceptual errors, principle errors, and verbal errors were identified, which became the basis for creating the hypothetical didactic design, 2) In the metapedadidactic stage, the initial didactic design was developed by integrating the cultural elements of the Engklek game and resulted in a new 2-2-2 pattern, and 3) In the retrospective analysis, the revised didactic design based on the ethnomathematics of the Engklek game with the new 2-2-2 pattern can be used to teach the concept of cube nets in mathematics education. This research aims to develop a meaningful didactic design by incorporating local cultural contexts into mathematics learning in elementary schools. This research has significant implications for education, especially in improving the quality of mathematics learning with didactic designs that utilize cultural context in teaching materials.
