Abstract

Malnutrition and overnutrition are nutritional problems that occur among adolescents in Indonesia. Various factors contribute to these nutritional problems, including limited access to information and low levels of knowledge among adolescents. Lack of knowledge and its implementation in preventing nutritional problems is also experienced in Kampar. Adolescents need to be socialized with the 4 pillars of the Balanced Nutrition Guidelines (PGS) which can be used as guidelines for eating, physical activity, clean living, and maintaining ideal body weight. This community service aimed to form a positive and active attitude to monitor body weight and nutritional status regularly and do physical activity regularly. The activities were carried out in the form of counseling in lectures and discussions using booklet media and adolescent nutritional status assessment tool. Anthropometric measurements were conducted on adolescent boys and girls with a total of 29 people. The counseling resulted in an increase in low physical activity from 48,3% to 58,6%, and monitoring of weight and height from 13,8% to 41,4%. Providing counseling using booklet media and nutritional status discs was considered appropriate to equip adolescents as an effort to increase physical activity and weight monitoring. The participation and initiative of the school (teachers and students) and parents play an important role in achieving the expected results of this counseling.

Abstract

The stunting rate among toddlers in Semarang City is 2,73%, consisting of 0,26% very short toddlers and 2,47% short toddlers. Although this prevalence is relatively low, continuous prevention and management efforts are still required to further reduce stunting cases. One local food ingredient with high nutritional potential is Moringa leaves (Moringa oleifera L.), which are rich in protein, vitamins, and minerals. Moringa leaves can be processed into various food products, including cookies. Cookies are a popular snack consumed by all age groups and have high energy content, making them suitable as complementary foods for toddlers. This community service activity aimed to increase public knowledge regarding the utilization of moringa leaf cookies as a stunting prevention strategy. The activity was conducted under the theme “Socialization of Making Cookies from Moringa Leaf Extract (Moringa oleifera L.) to Help Prevent Stunting.” A total of 50 PKK mothers participated from Bulu Lor Village, North Semarang, who participated in the activity. The intervention consisted of a 30-minute educational session using visual media, including pictures and PowerPoint presentations. Participants completed pre-test and post-test questionnaires that met validity and reliability standards. Data were analyzed univariately. The results showed that cookies with small amounts of moringa leaf powder were acceptable in taste and not bitter. Knowledge levels increased across all cognitive domains. Statistical analysis using a t-test indicated a significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores (p-value = 0,003). In conclusion, the activity effectively improved participants’ knowledge of using moringa leaf cookies to prevent stunting in toddlers.

Abstract

A training on integrating literature into English language teaching based on logotherapy is essential for English Subject Teachers' Working Group (MGMP) members in Pekalongan City to enhance their pedagogical competence in student instruction. The main objective of this activity was to respond to the needs of teachers' who showed a positive attitude toward the use of literary texts, but were still limited in their ability to interpret such texts beyond moralistic or literal meanings. A needs analysis was conducted through questionnaires to explore teachers' perceptions, experiences, and obstacles related to the use of literature in the curriculum. The training was carried out in five sessions, beginning with an introduction to the philosophical foundations of logotherapy and existentialist education, followed by discussions on the role of literature in meaningful learning. The practical sessions involved critical interpretation of the folktale Malin Kundang, modification of the narrative to emphasize existential dilemmas, and the development of interactive language skills activities (listening, reading, writing, and speaking). The results showed that the training helped expand the teachers' understanding of how literature can be used not only to enhance language competence but also to develop students’ self-awareness, empathy, and character. The conclusion highlights that the integration of literature and logotherapy principles has the potential to transform the English classroom into a space for personal growth and existential reflection, making language learning both meaningful and transformative.

Abstract

The increasing prevalence of degenerative diseases such as hypertension and diabetes in adolescents is a serious concern, mainly due to the consumption of foods high in sugar, salt, and fat (GGL) and the low habit of reading food labels. This community service activity aims to improve the knowledge, attitudes, and abilities of adolescents in reading food labels in an effort to prevent degenerative diseases. The education was conducted at MTSS Al-Hasanat, Sigi Regency, through “Detective Makmin” interactive media in the form of modules and wall magazines, accompanied by demonstrations and label reading practice competitions. Evaluation was carried out through pre-tests and post-tests on 24 students using instruments that had been tested for validity. The results of the paired t-test and Wilcoxon showed a significant increase in knowledge (p < 0,001), attitudes (p < 0,001), and the ability to read food labels (p < 0,001) after the intervention. The education provided was proven effective in improving adolescent nutritional literacy, especially in understanding the GGL content on food and beverage packaging. A participatory approach, the use of local media, and active student involvement played an important role in the success of the activity. Similar programs are recommended to be expanded to other schools with digital media development and parental involvement to strengthen long-term impact.

Abstract

Oral health is an essential component of overall health, particularly for pregnant women and prospective brides. Nevertheless, knowledge and awareness regarding oral health remain low, contributing to the high prevalence of dental caries, gingivitis, and periodontitis. These conditions have serious implications, especially during the First 1000 Days of Life (HPK), which are closely associated with the risk of stunting. This program aimed to enhance knowledge, awareness, and preventive behaviors related to oral health among pregnant women and prospective brides as part of early stunting prevention efforts. The intervention was conducted in July 2023 at the Toddopuli Primary Health Center, Makassar City, involving 20 prospective brides, 30 pregnant women, and 10 health cadres. Activities included cross-sectoral coordination, technical training for health cadres, household visits for data collection and intervention sticker placement, oral health education through face-to-face counseling and digital media, and dental treatment at the health center. Knowledge was assessed using pre-test and post-test instruments administered via Google Form. The findings revealed a significant improvement: the proportion of participants with good knowledge increased from 49,2% before the intervention to 98,2% afterward. In addition, the number of participants receiving dental care rose from 4 in 2022 to 39 in 2023. Overall, the program successfully enhanced awareness and preventive practices and contributed to stunting prevention by improving maternal and preconception oral health.
