Abstract

This community service program aims to enhance the competence of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers in implementing religious literacy in schools through a workshop activity. The background of this program is rooted in the fact that religious literacy plays a crucial role in shaping students’ religious character, yet it has not been fully integrated effectively into the learning process. The implementation method consisted of three stages: preparation (needs analysis and module development), workshop activities (lectures, discussions, simulations, and microteaching), and evaluation through pre-test, post-test, observation, and questionnaires. The results of the program indicated a significant improvement in teachers’ understanding and skills regarding the concepts and strategies of religious literacy implementation. In addition, workshop participants successfully developed follow-up plans to integrate religious literacy into classroom teaching. Therefore, this workshop proved effective in developing the competence of PAI teachers and in fostering a culture of religious literacy within the school environment.

Abstract

Koloman, as a religious tradition in Lawangan Daya Village, continues to be practiced conventionally and has not yet been optimal in instilling the values of religious moderation, resulting in vulnerability to exclusive views and limited understanding of tolerance and anti-extremism among the community. This community engagement project aimed to transform Koloman into a contextual Islamic educational medium, emphasizing the strengthening of understanding and the formation of moderate attitudes at the community level. The method applied involved participatory empowerment through dialogue, thematic discussions, creative training, and evaluation based on observation and pre-post tests with Koloman participants as the main subjects. The results demonstrate a significant increase in the understanding of religious moderation, more active participation among vulnerable groups, and the development of social networks between congregations which support the sustainability of moderation practices. This program proves that local traditions can be effective instruments in shaping a peaceful and inclusive community character.

Abstract

Waste management has become a complex national issue in Indonesia, particularly in urban areas such as Banda Aceh. The high volume of waste not only causes environmental problems but also triggers social conflicts within communities. This community engagement program aims to raise awareness and encourage citizen participation in waste management through development communication and environmental literacy approaches. The method used was descriptive qualitative, with data collected through interviews, observations, and focus group discussions (FGDs).The results show that the informal development communication approach, based on interpersonal interactions, has effectively increased active community involvement in managing waste at the household level. Waste literacy has improved, as reflected in behavioral changes such as waste sorting, compost production, and participation in the management of the 3R Waste Processing Site (TPS 3R). In addition to creating a cleaner environment, the program has also generated economic benefits through the reuse of waste into valuable products. The application of Capra’s ecoliteracy principles is evident in the participatory, holistic, and sustainable waste management practices. Due to its success, Gampong Lambung has received several awards, including the Proklim Madya (2019) and Proklim Utama (2020).

Abstract

The Community Service Program of Universitas Pelita Bangsa (UPB) in Karangrahayu Village was carried out as a form of community engagement through food diversification innovation based on catfish. Previously, Karangrahayu Village had no significant fisheries potential. However, with the initiative of the Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMDes), catfish ponds were established to support food security while boosting the village economy. The production of catfish has so far been limited to sales in fresh form or simple processing, resulting in relatively low added value. To address this issue, UPB Community Service students introduced marinated catfish products as a food diversification solution to increase processing variety, extend shelf life, and create new marketing opportunities. The program also aimed to provide education on modern processing techniques, enhance community skills, and encourage village economic empowerment. The implementation methods included a survey of local raw material potential, marination product development, and business opportunity analysis. The results show that marinated catfish has good consumer acceptance in terms of taste, aroma, and texture, as well as promising market prospects due to the utilization of local resources with low production costs. Therefore, the development of marinated catfish can increase added value, create job opportunities, and strengthen MSMEs in Karangrahayu Village.

Abstract

This study analyzes the effectiveness of a training program on lecture design in enhancing the pedagogical competence of lecturers at STAI Yogyakarta. Adopting a qualitative approach with a case study design, the research explores how the program successfully transforms the teaching paradigm from a conventional, teacher-centered model to an active, student-centered learning philosophy. Primary data were collected through in-depth observations and documentation involving 25 participating lecturers from STAI Yogyakarta. The data analysis utilizes content analysis and is validated through data triangulation to ensure the credibility of the findings. The results show that the training effectively shifted the lecturers' roles from being sole knowledge providers to being facilitators and mentors. A key finding is the adoption of innovative instruments like Concept Maps, which help lecturers logically organize complex subjects and integrate Islamic values into their curriculum. Furthermore, the implementation of authentic assessment ensures that learning outcomes are measured not only by memorization but also by analytical and practical skills, aligning with national educational standards. This training successfully fosters holistic competencies—covering cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains—and provides a valuable model for other Islamic higher education institutions.

Abstract

The Community Service Program (KKN) at Kertayasa 2 Elementary School in Sindangagung District aimed to foster students' love of Sundanese script and language through a Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) approach. The initiative stemmed from the declining interest of young people in regional languages due to the dominance of national and global languages. The research method used was qualitative, with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and documentation of activities over a 40-day period. CLIL was implemented by integrating local wisdom into the learning process, enabling students to not only learn Sundanese linguistically but also understand its cultural values. The results showed that students were more enthusiastic about participating in the learning process, were able to write basic Sundanese script correctly, and were confident in using Sundanese in everyday communication within the school environment. Furthermore, teachers gained new experience in integrating content-based learning strategies with a linguistic approach, which resulted in increased variety in teaching methods. Overall, CLIL implementation has proven effective in increasing students' appreciation of Sundanese

Abstract

The low productivity of international publications among lecturers at small higher education institutions has become a major challenge, affecting both academic reputation and career advancement. Contributing factors include limited understanding of advanced research methodologies such as the Systematic Literature Review (SLR), lack of experience in writing for international journals, and restricted access to academic resources. To address these issues, a community service programme was implemented at STITM Kediri using the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach to enhance lecturers’ capacity in producing SLR-based international scientific articles. The programme engaged 15 lecturers through four stages: Discovery (mapping academic assets), Dream (formulating a collective vision), Design (developing training plans), and Delivery (implementation and mentoring). The results indicate a substantial improvement in participants’ understanding of the SLR methodology, with the average score rising from 2.1 (on a 1–5 scale) before the training to 4.3 afterwards. All participants were actively engaged (100% attendance, 87% active participation), resulting in 15 article drafts, three of which are ready for submission to reputable international journals (Scopus Q3–Q4). These achievements demonstrate that the ABCD-based training successfully empowered existing academic potential, fostered writing motivation, and strengthened the culture of international publication at STITM Kediri. This model has the potential to be replicated in other small higher education institutions as a strategy for sustainable academic capacity building.

Abstract

Learning assessment is an essential component of the educational process as it evaluates students’ achievement of competencies and provides a basis for improving instructional practices. However, evidence from the field shows that elementary school teachers still face challenges in conducting item analysis using quantitative approaches. This community service program was designed in the form of a workshop to enhance teachers’ conceptual understanding of learning assessment as well as their technical skills in item analysis using Anates software. The program was implemented through pre-test, lectures, hands-on practice, group discussions, and post-test activities involving 52 teachers, with 41 serving as research respondents. Data analysis using the Wilcoxon test indicated a significant difference between participants’ abilities before and after the workshop, with greater improvement observed in technical item analysis skills compared to conceptual understanding. These findings demonstrate that practice-oriented training supported by technology can effectively strengthen teachers’ competence in developing valid and reliable assessment instruments. The implications of this program extend beyond the partner school, offering a sustainable collaboration model between universities and elementary schools to foster teacher professional development.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to improve the skills of teachers, students, and literacy communities in Dumai City in writing and translating bilingual children’s stories. The background of this activity lies in the limited availability of high-quality children’s reading materials in two languages, while literacy needs and foreign language proficiency are becoming increasingly urgent in the global era. The implementation method was carried out through technical guidance (training), which included workshops on children’s story writing, mentoring in translation into a second language, as well as peer review and revision sessions. The results of the activity showed an improvement in participants’ competencies, both in understanding the structure of children’s stories, techniques for composing simple language, and communicative translation strategies. Several bilingual children’s stories were successfully produced as final outputs, which have the potential to be developed into teaching materials or children’s reading resources in schools and the community. Thus, this mentoring program has proven effective in supporting the strengthening of a literacy culture and fostering the community’s creative spirit in producing bilingual children’s literature.
