Abstract

The creation of a comic that tells the story of processing organic waste such as Eco-enzyme is one of the efforts to encourage sustainable behavior. Eco-enzyme is a liquid produced from the fermentation of organic kitchen waste such as vegetables, fruits, palm sugar, water, and other materials. The procedure involves mixing these ingredients in a tightly sealed container and allowing them to ferment for a certain period. Polibatam conducted a community service program aimed at increasing the knowledge of students at SMK Negeri 7 Batam regarding the production of Eco-enzyme, which is highly beneficial and serves as a solution for handling household waste. The number of students participating in this activity was around 120. During its implementation, lecturers from Politeknik Negeri Batam collaborated with the Eco-enzyme Indonesia Foundation team, focusing on socialization and hands-on training in Eco-enzyme production using pre-prepared materials. In practice, the students were actively involved and engaged in discussions with the team, accompanied by lecturers while working in their respective groups. To make the activity more engaging, an Eco-enzyme-themed comic created by Polibatam lecturers was also distributed and used as training media during the socialization. This activity served as a stimulus for students to become more creative in addressing current environmental issues. Through this program, it is expected that students - especially those from SMK Negeri 7 Batam will take concrete action in responding to environmental damage issues that can be addressed through creative approaches. Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Menganti Village, Cilacap Regency, play a vital role in driving the local economy, yet they face limitations in utilizing digital technology for product marketing. Most MSMEs still rely on conventional marketing methods, resulting in relatively limited market reach and competitiveness. This community service program aims to improve the digital capacity of MSMEs through training in the use of online applications as a means of marketing their products. The program implementation method includes needs identification, outreach, hands-on training, and mentoring in the use of digital marketing applications, such as social media and marketplace platforms. The training focused on digital account management, creating simple promotional content, and implementing easy-to-implement online marketing strategies tailored to the characteristics of village MSME products. The results of the program indicate an increase in the knowledge, skills, and confidence of MSMEs in utilizing online applications to market their products more widely. Participants are now able to manage digital media independently and understand the importance of digital marketing as part of business development. This program is expected to encourage the independence and sustainability of MSMEs in Menganti Village in facing the challenges of the digital economy and continuously increase the competitiveness of local products.

Abstract

Digital transformation in the traditional food processing sector has become a strategic step to enhance efficiency and product quality. This study aims to design and assist in the implementation of an Internet of Things (IoT) system for fish smoking equipment, particularly focusing on real-time temperature monitoring. By utilizing temperature sensors, microcontrollers, and cloud-based IoT platforms, the system enables business actors to supervise the smoking process accurately and continuously. Assistance was provided to local fish-smoking groups to ensure that the implemented technology can be operated independently and tailored to field needs. The implementation results showed an improvement in temperature consistency during the production process, which directly impacts the final product quality, especially in terms of taste, color, and shelf life of smoked fish. This study demonstrates that the integration of digital technology into traditional processing can increase product added value and strengthen the adaptive capacity of business actors in the Industry 4.0 era. The developed system also opens opportunities for replication in other agro-industrial sectors as part of strengthening a technology-based appropriate economy

Abstract

This community service project aims to enhance the stability and performance of the internet infrastructure at MA Al-Ihsan Boarding School through the implementation of a fiber optic (FO) backbone between buildings and wireless network optimization. Prior to the intervention, the inter-building connection relied on wireless links, resulting in unstable connectivity, limited bandwidth (28.5 Mbps download), and service interruptions that affected academic and administrative digital systems. The project was conducted through five stages: needs assessment, network design, technical implementation, training and mentoring, and performance evaluation. A 200-meter single-mode FO backbone was deployed to connect the Kuwait Dormitory building using a Fiber-to-the-Building (FTTB) scheme. Additionally, wireless optimization was carried out in the Darul Ihsan Mosque through structured cell planning and non-overlapping channel configuration (1, 6, and 11). Performance evaluation showed a significant improvement in download speed from 28.5 Mbps to 157 Mbps (4.5 times increase), upload speed improvement from 17.4 Mbps to 53.8 Mbps, and reduced latency from 18 ms to 15 ms. Wi-Fi coverage in the mosque increased from approximately 60% to full coverage. The implementation not only improved network reliability but also strengthened the partner institution’s technical capacity in managing and maintaining digital infrastructure sustainably.

Abstract

Limited agricultural land in urban areas encourages the need to optimize yard land as an alternative for sustainable agricultural activities. One commodity that has the potential to be developed is aloe vera (Aloe vera L.) because it has health benefits and economic value that can be processed into value-added products. The Manunggal Women Farmers Group (KWT) of Magelang has developed processed aloe vera products, but the sustainability of these activities still faces obstacles in the form of limited availability of raw materials due to suboptimal cultivation practices. This community service activity aims to increase the understanding and capacity of KWT Manunggal members in cultivating aloe vera according to the characteristics of the plant and the conditions of the yard land. The service implementation method is carried out through socialization and interactive discussions supported by pre-socialization field practices. The material presented includes yard land utilization, planting media preparation, seed selection, planting techniques, maintenance, and control of aloe vera pests and diseases. Evaluation is carried out qualitatively and descriptively through observations about level of participation, active discussions, and the ability of participants to understand and re-explain the material. The activity’s results showed an increase in participants' understanding of aloe vera cultivation techniques and change in attitude. This is reflected in their increasing interest and commitment to implementing cultivation techniques in their yards. This activity has the potential to support increased availability of aloe vera raw materials and strengthen the sustainability of the Manunggal KWT processing business. Continued mentoring is needed to ensure the long-term sustainability of the community service activities.

Abstract

Abstract— Kampung Tua Bakau Serip is the only nationally recognized mangrove tourism village in Sumatra. Its ecological, cultural, and educational potential remains underutilized due to sporadic branding, unstructured digital promotion channels, and limited community capacity. This article presents the SERIP 360° program, a community service initiative aimed at strengthening brand identity, enhancing digital literacy among the local community, and activating digital tourism promotion campaigns through the participation of Pokdarwis (tourism awareness groups) and local MSMEs. The program employs several strategies: (i) branding audits, development of brand guidelines, and visual identity training; (ii) optimization of digital channels, editorial planning, and storytelling workshops; (iii) production of digital content, multilingual tourism catalogs, and interactive QR signage; and (iv) collaborative digital campaigns with influencers and local media. The program is implemented in two continuous phases over one semester, emphasizing the formation of an internal content team within the village to ensure independent management of digital promotion. Target outputs include a brand guideline document, active digital channels, ready-to-publish content, multilingual digital catalogs, and interactive QR signage. Evaluation is conducted both formatively and summatively, using sustainability achievement indicators. SERIP 360° demonstrates that a collaborative, community-based approach can serve as a model for adaptive, professional, and sustainable branding and digital promotion in tourism villages, and can be replicated in other nature-based tourism villages across Indonesia.
