Abstract

The rapid conversion of agricultural land into tourism areas in Batu City has driven many farmers to shift into the tourism sector. However, some farmers rationally choose to remain in agriculture despite increasing pressures and attractions of tourism. This study examines the rationality behind farmers’ decisions to sustain farming and the strategies they adopt amid agrarian crisis and tourism expansion. Guided by James S. Coleman’s rational choice theory, the analysis emphasizes actors’ calculations of resources, risks, and values. A qualitative case study was conducted in Bulukerto Village, Bumiaji District, Batu City, using semi-structured interviews, non-participant observation, and document analysis. The findings show that farmers’ persistence is shaped by the availability of land and agricultural resources, strong socio-cultural attachments, and careful assessments of tourism’s uncertainties, which are often unstable and capital-intensive. Rather than abandoning farming, they adapt by diversifying to more resilient or profitable commodities, including oranges, vegetables, cut flowers, and multi-purpose tree species. The study concludes that sustaining agriculture constitutes a rational choice grounded in economic stability, ecological sustainability, and cultural identity. The novelty of this research lies in showing how farmers’ rationality is formed not only by material resources but also by non-material values and perceived risks of tourism, offering new insights into agrarian transformation.

Abstract

This study examines the adaptation strategies of single-parent female farm labor in Nagari Koto Salak, Dharmasraya Regency, who face multiple social and economic challenges. With unstable incomes below the regional minimum wage, they are solely responsible for household needs, including daily consumption and children’s education, while constrained by low education levels, limited access to resources, and minimal social support. Using John W. Bennett’s (1976) framework of adaptation strategies—behavioral, tactical, and process—this research employs a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through non-participant observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis, involving eight main informants and eight supporting informants selected through purposive sampling. The findings reveal three key strategies: reducing consumption (behavioral), utilizing household resources, seasonal savings groups (arisan), income diversification, and borrowing (tactical), as well as participation in social groups such as dasawisma, religious study groups, and farmer groups (process). These strategies highlight the resilience and adaptive capacity of women in sustaining family livelihoods under vulnerable conditions.

Abstract

Information and communication technology has advanced rapidly, yet its utilization among Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) remains limited. This is partly due to the fact that internet users are mostly from the younger generation, whereas SME actors are predominantly over the age of 42—an age, less familiar with digital technologies. As a result, many SMEs struggle to grow due to a lack of understanding of digital entrepreneurship, particularly in marketing their products amid increasing business competition. The Medan City Government, through the Department of Cooperatives, SMEs, Industry, and Trade, has initiated a digital marketing training program to support SME growth. However, the program's implementation still faces several challenges. This research was conducted using a descriptive qualitative method, with data collection was carried out using interviews, observations, and documentation at the Department of Cooperatives, SMEs, Industry, and Trade. Data analysis is based on the strategic implementation theory by Wheelen and Hunger, which involves three stages: (1) program planning, (2) budgeting, and (3) procedure setting. The results show that the implementation of the digital marketing training strategy in Medan City has not yet been optimal. There is a lack of monitoring and evaluation, and the budgeting process is not supported by clear methods and standards, leading to potentially subjective decisions and inefficient resource use. Procedures play a crucial role in providing a structured and systematic framework to ensure program activities run as planned. However, the absence of technical standards governing activity flows may hinder the program from achieving its intended goals.

Abstract

The Affordable Staple Rice Program (BPM) is an agricultural innovation introduced by the Padang City Agriculture Office with the aim of reducing production costs while maintaining rice field productivity. This research is important because the success of an innovation is determined not only by technology but also by the perceptions of farmers, the primary users. This study aims to describe farmers' perceptions of the BPM Program in Kuranji Village. The research method used a qualitative approach with a case study. Informants were selected through snowball sampling, with the head of the Anugrah Farmers Group as the key informant, followed by farmer members, the surrounding community, and representatives from the Padang City Agriculture Office. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation studies, then analyzed using the Miles & Huberman interactive model. The results showed that farmers perceived the BPM program as providing tangible benefits, particularly in reducing production costs from an average of IDR 10,000,000 to around IDR 7,000,000 per hectare and increasing yields from 3.5 tons/ha to 4.1 tons/ha, although still lower than the previous average of 5.55 tons/ha. Farmers also find it easier to maintain their rice fields because the use of straw mulch reduces weeds and maintains soil moisture. However, challenges encountered in the field include limited labor, difficulties in initial adaptation to new methods, and the need for ongoing support. Overall, the BPM program is perceived as beneficial, but it still requires evaluation and improvement for sustainability and wider adoption. Keywords: Farmer Perception, BPM, Agricultural Innovation, Production Costs

Abstract

Prof Dr S Nasution in his book entitled Curriculum and Teaching states that the curriculum is a series of plans to facilitate the teaching and learning process. The plans prepared are the responsibility of educational institutions and the teachers there. Meanwhile, in the National Education System Law Number 20 of 2003, article 1 number 19, it is stated that the curriculum is a set of arrangements and plans regarding objectives, content and learning materials as well as the methods used to guide learning activities. to achieve educational goals. It is important for every school to have a curriculum as a guide for teachers. It could even be said that if there is no curriculum then learning at school cannot run well. This research uses a data collection approach using participant observation, documentation studies, and interviews. Here there are 3 aspects in implementing an independent curriculum, namely planning the implementation of an independent curriculum, implementing an independent curriculum and evaluating independent curriculum learning. Independent curriculum planning at SD Negeri 060833 Medan Petisah District, Medan City and analyzing learning outcomes (CP) to formulate learning objectives and the flow of learning objectives, planning diagnostic assessments, developing learning modules that adapt learning to the stages and characteristics of student achievement and planning formative and summative assessments . Implementation of an independent curriculum at SD Negeri 060833 Medan Petisah District, Medan City by carrying out diagnostic assessments, carrying out learning according to project-based teaching modules, as well as carrying out formative and summative assessments. Evaluation of learning to implement the independent curriculum at SD Negeri 060833 Medan Petisah District, Medan City, by carrying out diagnostic assessments, carrying out and processing formative and summative assessments. The author suggests that SD Negeri 060833 Medan Petisah District, Medan City, continue to monitor and develop itself by continuing to improve the curriculum for better school quality. Apart from that, the success of schools in implementing an independent curriculum must also be socialized to schools that have not implemented it.
