Abstract

Education plays a pivotal role in the rehabilitation of juvenile offenders. This qualitative study explores the opportunities and challenges of reforming rehabilitation through formal education at the Youth Rehabilitation Center Class II A Bengkulu. The program aims to enhance academic skills, life competencies, and self-esteem among juvenile offenders. Using a purposive sampling method, the study involved 14 informants, including a head of education and community guidance, a teacher, and 12 foster children. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. Findings reveal that educational initiatives at the center significantly boost foster children's confidence, motivation, and optimism about their future. The institution's strategic location, dedicated educators, and adequate infrastructure support these efforts. However, several challenges persist, such as limited cooperation from the children’s previous schools, insufficient facilities, a lack of subject-specific resources (e.g., science), and a shortage of qualified teachers. This study provides a detailed analysis of integrating formal education into rehabilitation programs and offers recommendations for improving the quality of educational services in juvenile rehabilitation centers. These insights aim to support the development of inclusive, sustainable, and education-focused rehabilitation policies.

Abstract

This study explores functions and influences of artificial intelligence (AI) in English language learning among English education and non-English education students. Using semi-structured interviews with 36 students from four universities in Bengkulu, Indonesia, and analyzed through Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA), the study identifies five key functions of AI: learning booster, flexible learning assistant, personal learning source, virtual teacher, and instant problem solver. Both groups shared similar views on the first three functions, while English education students emphasized AI as a virtual teacher, and non-English education students saw it more as an instant problem solver. Four influence themes emerged: acceleration of English mastery, increased learning motivation, reduced desire for face-to-face conversation, and growing dependency on AI tools. Both groups agreed on the first two, but differed on the latter, English education students noted reduced face-to-face interaction, while non-English education students highlighted dependency on AI. The findings stress the importance of balancing AI use with human interaction to support comprehensive language learning.

Abstract

This research aims to develop a scientifically based physics e-module to improve students' critical thinking skills, which are valid, practical and effective. This type of research is (R & D) with a 4D development model (define, design, develop and disseminate). The research sample was physics education students in the sixth semester of PGRI Silampari University. Data collection techniques use questionnaires and tests, research instruments in the form of questionnaires and test questions. The validation results from language experts averaged 0.83 in the very valid category, with inter-rater reliability of 42%, a moderate level of agreement. The validation results from media experts averaged 0.88 in the very valid category, with inter-rater reliability of 57%, a moderate level of agreement. The validation results from material experts averaged 0.86 in the very valid category, with inter-rater reliability of 63%, a strong level of agreement. The lecturers' practical response to the scientific-based physics e-module obtained a practicality percentage of 82.5% in the very practical category. The practical response of the limited group of students (6 students) to the scientific-based physics e-module obtained an average percentage of practicality of 88.3% in the very practical category. Based on calculations from the critical thinking questionnaire, the critical thinking percentage was 80% in the high category. Apart from that, from the test results that used questions with critical thinking indicators, an average pre-test score was 35,67 and an average post-test score was 78,85 with an average Gain test score of 0.67 in the medium category. So it can be concluded that the scientific-based e-module developed has been declared valid, practical and effective, for improving students' critical thinking abilities
