Abstract

Meningkatnya aktivitas pelayaran di Indonesia menuntut perusahaan pelayaran untuk memastikan kinerja operasional kapal yang optimal melalui pengelolaan sumber daya manusia yang efektif. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis pengaruh strategi rekrutmen dan kompetensi kerja awak kapal terhadap kinerja operasional kapal tanker. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode survei terhadap 297 awak kapal tanker pada perusahaan pelayaran PT SMP Tbk. Data dikumpulkan melalui kuesioner terstruktur dan dianalisis menggunakan regresi linier berganda dengan bantuan SPSS. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa strategi rekrutmen berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap kinerja operasional kapal (β = 0,567; p < 0,05). Kompetensi kerja awak kapal juga berpengaruh positif dan signifikan dengan pengaruh yang lebih kuat (β = 0,814; p < 0,05). Secara simultan, strategi rekrutmen dan kompetensi kerja awak kapal berpengaruh signifikan terhadap peningkatan kinerja operasional kapal. Temuan ini menegaskan bahwa rekrutmen yang transparan dan berbasis kebutuhan operasional, serta penguatan kompetensi teknis dan adaptabilitas awak kapal, merupakan faktor penting dalam meningkatkan efisiensi, keselamatan, dan keberlanjutan operasional kapal tanker. Penelitian ini memberikan implikasi praktis bagi perusahaan pelayaran dalam merancang kebijakan rekrutmen dan program pengembangan kompetensi awak kapal guna mendukung kinerja operasional yang berkelanjutan. The increasing intensity of maritime activities in Indonesia requires shipping companies to ensure optimal ship operational performance through effective human resource management. This study aims to examine the effect of recruitment strategies and crew competencies on the operational performance of tanker vessels. A quantitative research approach was employed using a survey method involving 297 tanker crew members from PT SMP Tbk, an Indonesian shipping company. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and analyzed using multiple linear regression with SPSS. The results indicate that recruitment strategies have a positive and significant effect on ship operational performance (β = 0.567; p < 0.05). Crew work competencies also show a positive and significant effect, with a stronger influence (β = 0.814; p < 0.05). Simultaneously, recruitment strategies and crew competencies significantly affect the improvement of ship operational performance. These findings highlight the importance of transparent and operationally aligned recruitment processes, as well as the development of technical competencies and adaptability among ship crews, in enhancing efficiency, safety, and operational sustainability of tanker vessels. This study provides practical implications for shipping companies in formulating recruitment policies and competency development programs to support sustainable operational performance.

Abstract

Ketergantungan sektor maritim pada bahan bakar fosil telah berkontribusi signifikan terhadap peningkatan emisi karbon, pencemaran lingkungan laut, dan tingginya biaya operasional kapal. Tantangan ini menuntut inovasi energi alternatif yang ramah lingkungan dan berkelanjutan. Penelitian ini bertujuan merancang dan mengimplementasikan prototipe kapal wisata bertenaga surya sebagai sumber energi utama penggerak. Pendekatan penelitian yang digunakan adalah Research and Development (R&D) yang meliputi tahap analisis kebutuhan, perancangan, perakitan, pengujian, dan evaluasi kinerja. Hasil pengujian menunjukkan bahwa kapal berbobot 1,3 ton dapat beroperasi dengan kecepatan rata-rata 3,5–4 knot menggunakan enam panel surya berkapasitas 100 WP dan empat baterai 200 Ah, dengan waktu pengisian penuh sekitar 12 jam pada kondisi penyinaran optimal. Temuan ini mengindikasikan bahwa kapal bertenaga surya berpotensi menjadi alternatif transportasi laut yang efisien, ramah lingkungan, serta mendukung penerapan energi terbarukan di sektor maritim.   The maritime sector's reliance on fossil fuels has significantly contributed to increased carbon emissions, marine environmental pollution, and high vessel operational costs. These challenges necessitate the development of environmentally friendly and sustainable alternative energy solutions. This study aims to design and implement a solar-powered tourist boat prototype as the primary propulsion energy source. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach, encompassing needs analysis, design, assembly, testing, and performance evaluation stages. The test results indicate that a 1.3-ton vessel can operate at an average speed of 3.5–4 knots using six 100 WP solar panels and four 200 Ah batteries, with a full charging time of approximately 12 hours under optimal sunlight conditions. These findings suggest that solar-powered boats have the potential to serve as an efficient and environmentally friendly alternative for maritime transportation while promoting the adoption of renewable energy in the maritime sector.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the inefficiency of the loading preparation process on the MT Nova Naomi due to the implementation of tank cleaning procedures that did not comply with international standards. This issue caused delays in the loading schedule and operational losses. The objective of this study is to evaluate the implementation of the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for tank cleaning and to identify the obstacles affecting the effectiveness of the process. The research employed a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation during the researcher's sea practice (PRALA). The findings indicate that the implementation of the tank cleaning SOP on MT Nova Naomi was not fully aligned with international regulations, mainly due to limited equipment, insufficient crew understanding of the SOP, and the neglect of safety aspects, such as the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Furthermore, the suboptimal tank cleaning process caused delays in the transition from Crude Palm Oil (CPO) to Olein cargo. Therefore, improved crew awareness, adequate supporting equipment, and strict supervision are necessary to ensure an effective, efficient, and safe tank cleaning process.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh peristiwa kerusakan ramp door pada kapal KM Mutiara Ferindo VII yang berdampak signifikan terhadap kegiatan bongkar muat dan jadwal pelayaran. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui faktor penyebab kerusakan ramp door serta langkah-langkah penanganan yang dilakukan untuk mengatasi gangguan tersebut. Penelitian menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui observasi langsung, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kerusakan disebabkan oleh wire rope yang aus dan berkarat karena kurangnya perawatan rutin, sehingga menyebabkan ramp door terjatuh secara tiba-tiba. Dampak yang ditimbulkan meliputi tertundanya proses bongkar muat, keterlambatan pelayaran, keluhan pengguna jasa, serta menurunnya efisiensi operasional dan kepercayaan terhadap manajemen kapal. Penanganan dilakukan dengan penghentian aktivitas, sterilisasi area, inspeksi awal, perbaikan darurat, hingga evaluasi dan penyusunan rencana perawatan preventif agar kejadian serupa tidak terulang di masa mendatang.

Abstract

Insiden kapal kandas masih menjadi permasalahan serius dalam keselamatan pelayaran, khususnya pada alur sungai yang memiliki karakteristik sempit, berarus kuat, dan dipengaruhi pasang surut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis faktor penyebab terjadinya kandas kapal MV Selili Baru di Alur Sungai Siak serta mengidentifikasi tindakan penanganan dan upaya pencegahan untuk meningkatkan keselamatan navigasi pelayaran sungai. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif dengan pendekatan studi kasus. Data diperoleh melalui observasi langsung, wawancara semi-terstruktur dengan awak kapal, serta analisis dokumen kapal berupa logbook dan berita acara kejadian. Analisis data dilakukan melalui tahapan reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa insiden kandas disebabkan oleh kombinasi faktor internal dan eksternal. Faktor internal didominasi oleh human error, terutama ketidaktepatan perhitungan pasang surut, lemahnya komunikasi di anjungan, serta tidak dilaksanakannya safety meeting sebelum memasuki alur sempit. Faktor eksternal meliputi arus sungai yang kuat, perubahan kedalaman akibat pasang surut, serta karakteristik alur Sungai Siak yang sempit dan berbelok tajam. Tindakan awak kapal setelah kejadian kandas telah sesuai dengan prosedur keselamatan, meliputi plotting posisi kapal, sounding kedalaman dan tangki, serta pemeriksaan potensi kebocoran. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa peningkatan keselamatan navigasi di alur sungai berisiko tinggi memerlukan perencanaan pelayaran yang lebih akurat, penerapan Bridge Resource Management, serta peningkatan kedisiplinan dan kesiapsiagaan awak kapal. Hasil penelitian ini diharapkan dapat menjadi referensi bagi perusahaan pelayaran, kru kapal, dan institusi pendidikan maritim dalam mencegah insiden kandas pada pelayaran sungai. Grounding incidents remain a critical issue in maritime safety, particularly in river channels characterized by narrow waterways, strong currents, and tidal influences. This study aims to analyze the factors causing the grounding of MV Selili Baru in the Siak River channel and to identify the response actions and preventive measures to enhance inland waterway navigational safety. A descriptive qualitative method with a case study approach was employed. Data were collected through direct observation, semi-structured interviews with the ship’s crew, and analysis of ship documents, including logbooks and official incident reports. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that the grounding incident was caused by a combination of internal and external factors. Internal factors were dominated by human error, particularly inaccurate tidal calculations, ineffective bridge communication, and the absence of a safety meeting prior to entering the confined channel. External factors included strong river currents, tidal-induced depth variations, and the narrow and sharply curved characteristics of the Siak River channel. The crew’s actions following the grounding complied with established safety procedures, including position plotting, depth and tank sounding, and leak inspections. This study concludes that improving navigational safety in high-risk river channels requires more accurate voyage planning, effective implementation of Bridge Resource Management, and enhanced crew discipline and preparedness. The findings are expected to serve as a reference for shipping companies, ship crews, and maritime education institutions in preventing grounding incidents in inland waterways.

Abstract

Manuver sandar kapal merupakan salah satu fase paling kritis dalam operasi pelayaran karena dipengaruhi oleh berbagai faktor eksternal, khususnya angin dan arus. Kondisi lingkungan yang tidak terkendali dapat memengaruhi olah gerak kapal dan meningkatkan risiko kecelakaan di pelabuhan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh angin dan arus terhadap olah gerak kapal saat melakukan manuver sandar di pelabuhan dengan studi kasus pada MV Sinar Bintan. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif melalui studi kasus, dengan teknik pengumpulan data berupa observasi langsung selama operasi sandar, wawancara dengan perwira kapal, serta studi dokumentasi. Data dianalisis dengan mengaitkan kondisi angin dan arus terhadap respons manuver kapal selama proses sandar. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa angin dan arus memiliki pengaruh signifikan terhadap stabilitas dan arah gerak kapal, terutama pada kecepatan rendah saat mendekati dermaga. Angin samping dan arus menyilang terbukti meningkatkan kesulitan pengendalian kapal dan membutuhkan koordinasi yang lebih baik antara nahkoda, perwira jaga, serta penggunaan bantuan tugboat. Penelitian ini memberikan kontribusi praktis dalam meningkatkan pemahaman tentang mitigasi risiko manuver sandar kapal di pelabuhan, khususnya dalam kondisi lingkungan yang tidak menguntungkan. Berthing maneuver is one of the most critical phases in ship operations, as it is strongly influenced by external environmental factors, particularly wind and current. Uncontrolled environmental conditions can affect ship maneuverability and increase the risk of accidents in port areas. This study aims to analyze the effects of wind and current on ship maneuverability during berthing operations, using MV Sinar Bintan as a case study. This research adopts a qualitative descriptive approach through a case study method. Data were collected through direct observation during berthing operations, interviews with ship officers, and documentation review. The analysis focuses on examining the relationship between wind and current conditions and the ship’s maneuvering response during the berthing process. The results indicate that wind and current significantly influence ship stability and directional control, particularly at low speeds when approaching the berth. Crosswinds and transverse currents were found to increase maneuvering difficulty and require enhanced coordination between the master, deck officers, and tugboat assistance. This study provides practical insights for improving risk mitigation strategies during ship berthing operations under challenging environmental conditions.

Abstract

Mila Utama merupakan kapal dengan jenis kapal ro-ro yang melayani rute pelayaran dari Pelabuhan Tanjung Perak Surabaya ke Pelabuhan Trisakti Banjarmasin bahkan sebaliknya. Kapal ini dioperasikan oleh PT. Timur Mila Utama yang berkantor di Banjarmasin, Kalimantan Selatan. Jenis muatan di kapal ini adalah kendaraan dan penumpang. Prosedur pengikatan muatan di kapal ini sudah baik, tetapi masih ada beberapa yang perlu diperbaiki agar bisa dikatakan sempurna. Terutama dalam hal jarak antar kendaraan dan pengikatan muatan yang sangat riskan. Penelitian ini menyarankan agar prosedur pengikatan muatan harus tetap diterapkan oleh ABK maupun Crew kapal. dengan fokus ke pengikatan muatan dan evaluasi sehingga dapat menciptakan keamanan dan efesiensi pelayaran. Apabila prosedur pengikatan muatan diabaikan akan berakibat serius termasuk terbaliknya kapal dan kerusakan muatan. Dengan presentase 30% kecelakaan kapal roro disebabkan oleh muatan yang tidak terikat dengan baik. Selain itu perlunya kerjasama antara ABK dan crew kapal yang harus memantau pemasangan pengikat muatan dengan dengan teliti sesuai dengan perkembangan peraturan internasional yang berlaku. Sehingga penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis prosedur pengikatan muatan yang efektif guna meningkatkan keselamatan operasional. Dengan penelitian ini peneliti berharap agar prosedur pengikatan muatan dapat selalu diterapkan disetiap kapal terutama kapal ro-ro Mila Utama is a ro-ro ship serving the shipping route from Tanjung Perak Port in Surabaya to Trisakti Port in Banjarmasin and vice versa. This ship is operated by PT. Timur Mila Utama, headquartered in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan. The type of cargo on this ship is vehicles and passengers. The cargo lashing procedure on this ship is good, but there are still some improvements to be considered perfect. Especially in terms of distance between vehicles and cargo lashing, which is very risky. This study recommends that cargo lashing procedures must be continuously implemented by the ship's crew and crew, with a focus on cargo lashing and evaluation to create safety and efficiency in shipping. If cargo lashing procedures are ignored, serious consequences can occur, including capsizing the ship and damage to the cargo. With a percentage of 30% of ro-ro ship accidents caused by poorly tied cargo. In addition, cooperation is needed between the crew and crew, who must carefully monitor the installation of cargo lashing in accordance with the development of applicable international regulations. Therefore, this study aims to analyze effective cargo lashing procedures to improve operational safety. With this research, the researchers hope that cargo lashing procedures can always be implemented on every ship, especially ro-ro ships.

Abstract

Maritime safety is a crucial aspect of ship operations, with the readiness of safety equipment and crew competence serving as key determining factors. This study aims to analyze the role of the crew and the lifeboat maintenance system in the implementation of drills on board KMP Portlink III. The research employed a descriptive qualitative method through direct observation, interviews, and document analysis. The findings indicate that crew involvement in drills has not been optimal, as shown by delayed responses to emergency alarms and a limited understanding of individual task responsibilities. Furthermore, lifeboat maintenance did not fully comply with SOLAS standards, as evidenced by damage to the davit mechanism, worn-out wires, and weakened batteries. These conditions led to the failure of lifeboat launching during drills. The study recommends routine simulation-based training, a more systematic task distribution, and disciplined inspection of safety equipment. Such efforts are expected to enhance crew preparedness and improve the reliability of lifeboats in emergency situations. Abstract

This study aims to analyze and optimize the implementation of the venus application in the crew change process within the crewing division of PT Pertamina International Shipping. The crew change process is a critical component of the company's operations, requiring effective management and coordination. The venus application is expected to enhance efficiency and accuracy in data management as well as expedite administrative procedures. The study results indicate that the venus application improves the performance of the crew change process by reducing processing time and data errors. However, several technical challenges need to be addressed. Based on these findings, it is concluded that optimizing the use of the venus application has the potential to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the crew change process in the crewing division of PT Pertamina International Shipping. Recommendations include enhancing user training and developing application features to better support operational processes.
