Abstract

This study examines the Islamic concept of justice and its implications for strengthening religious moderation in increasingly plural and globalized societies. Justice, as a foundational principle in Islamic legal and ethical thought, encompasses theological, juridical, social, and moral dimensions that emphasize fairness, equality, human dignity, and the protection of rights without discrimination. Using a qualitative design grounded in a normative–theological approach and an extensive review of primary Islamic sources—including the Qur’an, hadith, and classical as well as contemporary juristic scholarship—this research analyzes the multidimensional structure of justice within Islamic law. The findings reveal six major conceptual domains: divine command justice, impartial justice beyond social status or group identity, judicial justice, socio-economic justice, interreligious justice, and justice within family and gender relations. These dimensions demonstrate a strong doctrinal alignment with the core principles of religious moderation (wasathiyyah), particularly balance, tolerance, equality, and openness. The study argues that embedding justice as the ethical foundation of religious moderation offers a substantive framework for countering extremism, reducing intolerance, and fostering inclusive coexistence. This research contributes to contemporary Islamic discourse by positioning justice as a strategic theological resource for promoting moderate, adaptive, and humanistic religious practices in the context of modern diversity.

Abstract

The transformation of Islamic education in the digital era demands a balance between technological advancement and the spiritual development of learners. This study aims to analyze the meaning, relevance, and implementation of the Love-Based Curriculum within the madrasah context, which emphasizes compassion (rahmah), empathy, and the humanization of learning as the core of the educational process. Employing a qualitative approach with a case study design at MA Riyadlus Sholihin Kota Probolinggo, data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis. The findings reveal that the Love-Based Curriculum strengthens students’ spiritual and moral dimensions through reflective learning and the teacher’s role as murabbi (spiritual mentor). Although institutional support is relatively strong, limitations in teacher training and technological adaptation remain challenges. This research highlights the urgency of adopting a love-oriented paradigm in Islamic education as a solution to the moral crisis and dehumanization found in modern education.

Abstract

The dual leasing practice of salt lands in Pamekasan has become a chronic source of social and economic conflict among farmers. This study aims to analyze the insufficiency of Islamic Economic Law, particularly fiqh al-ijarah (lease jurisprudence), in addressing such disputes and to formulate a contextual and just reconstruction model of Islamic Economic Law (HES). The research employs a qualitative method with an empirical juridical approach. The findings reveal that dual leasing practices are normatively contradictory to HES as they contain elements of gharar (uncertainty) and tadlis (deception). Furthermore, the conventional fiqh al-ijarah framework has proven ineffective in practice due to its procedural and individualistic nature, which fails to accommodate communal social realities such as the lack of formal documentation and the dominance of customary law (‘urf) and local mediators. In conclusion, this study proposes a preventive-mediative hybrid model that shifts the focus from contractual procedures to the substance of maqasid al-shari‘ah, particularly the protection of rights and property, by integrating valid ‘urf through two pillars: a preventive pillar in the form of simplified lease documentation, and a mediative pillar through the institutionalization of local mediators as the first layer of dispute resolution. This model enables Islamic Economic Law to function as a living law that is contextual, adaptive, and just for salt-farming communities in Pamekasan.

The data were analyzed descriptively using content analysis techniques to find themes of religious, social, and cultural values in the Nyadran tradition. The results showed that the Silurah community had a high level of acceptance of this tradition as a form of harmony between religion and culture. Values of moderation such as tasamuh (tolerance), tawazun (balance), i'tidal (justice), and syura (deliberation) are internalized in every ritual procession. The Nyadran Gunung Silurah tradition serves as a medium for cultural preservation, ecological spirituality, and a means of social education that strengthens religious moderation at the local level.

Abstract

The role of educators in Islamic education is highly significant, particularly in addressing contemporary educational challenges that tend to prioritise cognitive achievement over character formation. This article examines the concept of the Islamic educator according to Syekh Burhanuddin Az-Zarnuji in Ta'lim al-Muta'allim li Thariq al-Ta'allum and analyses its implications for modern teacher professionalism. This study employs a descriptive–analytical literature review, using Ta'lim al-Muta'allim as the primary source supported by relevant contemporary scholarly literature. The findings show that Az-Zarnuji outlines three fundamental criteria for an educator: al-a'lam (professionally competent and knowledgeable), al-awra’ (morally upright and avoiding sinful acts), and al-asann (mature and experienced). According to Az-Zarnuji, a teacher is not merely an instructor but also a moral and spiritual guide (murshid) who directs learners to orient their educational goals toward attaining the pleasure of Allah SWT. This ethically and spiritually infused pedagogical model is highly relevant to contemporary efforts to strengthen teacher professionalism, ideally integrating academic competence, moral integrity, and spiritual depth. The thought of Az-Zarnuji therefore provides a valuable conceptual foundation for developing a model of teacher professionalism that is rooted in Islamic educational values while remaining responsive to the demands of modern education.

Abstract

The halal sector is emerging on a global scale, expanding into other industries including pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, logistics, finance, and travel. This study examines the Islamic law from the shariah governance perspective and its foundation on the halal industry’s competitive advantage. Having utilized a literature based methodology, the study integrates and synthesizes islamic jurisprudence, policy and regulations, technology and consumers, and empirical studies undertaken from 2015 to 2025. The study concludes that halal certification is a competitive advantage only when Islamic law is embedded with foundational regulations, effective controls, and a fetwa system. The study also suggest that the artificial intelligence, block chain and digital certification improve governance transparency and traceability. The study concludes that Islamic law is a religious requirement but also serves as a strategic governance framework that enhances global competitiveness.

Abstract

The management of tofu wastewater is an ecological issue that often triggers river pollution, unpleasant odors, and a decline in environmental quality. This study was conducted to analyze how a community based waste management model grounded in green islamic economy principles can address these problems while simultaneously generating economic and socio religious benefits for the community in Bicorong Village, Pakong, Pamekasan. The research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design, involving field observations, in depth interviews with tofu industry owners, biogas managers, village officials, and beneficiary communities, as well as document analysis. The data were analyzed thematically to illustrate patterns of innovation adoption, social dynamics, and multidimensional impacts. The findings show that the biogas innovation significantly reduces water pollution, eliminates odor pollution, and produces alternative energy that lowers household expenses and stimulates local economic activities. Additionally, religious values such as maslahah, the prohibition of israf, and the concept of khalifah serve as moral legitimacy that accelerates community acceptance, strengthened by village regulations as institutional instruments. The study concludes that the success of waste management is not only determined by technological effectiveness but also by the integration of religious values, local culture, and institutional structures. This model holds potential as a reference for sustainable environmental development within muslim communities based on green economics and community participation.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of Islamic business ethics principles among chicken meat traders in Duko Timur Village, particularly regarding the practices of honesty, trustworthiness, justice, responsibility, and ihsan in buying and selling activities. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach through observation, interviews, and documentation to obtain a factual overview of traders’ behavior in their daily economic activities. The findings reveal that the traders have generally implemented Islamic business ethics consistently, such as maintaining transparency in weighing, giving buyers the freedom to determine the quantity of their purchase, and providing friendly and humane service. Religious motivation, especially the belief in the blessing of sustenance, plays a significant role in encouraging these ethical behaviors. The study concludes that sustaining business practices that adhere to sharia principles requires collaboration among traders, consumers, and market managers to develop service standards, strengthen ethical literacy, and create a fair and sustainable market system. These findings are expected to serve as a reference for developing traditional markets based on Islamic economic values.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the comparative results of translating balaghiyyah meanings in Ibn al-Rumi elegiac poem using the traditional Al-Ma‘ani dictionary and Google Gemini. Employing a qualitative descriptive-comparative approach, the study uses six selected verses of Ibn al-Rumi poem and their translated outputs as the primary data. The findings reveal that the Al-Ma‘ani dictionary is superior in presenting deeper connotative meanings and the aesthetic values of classical Arabic, as it is grounded in lexical analysis and contextual semantics. Conversely, Google Gemini excels in efficiency and syntactic clarity but tends to produce literal translations that fail to capture the rhetorical and symbolic nuances. Thus, the study concludes that traditional dictionary-based translation remains more effective in preserving the balaghiyyah meaning of Arabic literary texts, while AI-based translation still requires further development to better comprehend figurative and expressive meanings.
