Abstract

Consumer protection is an essential aspect of a fair and democratic legal system. However, low public awareness, limited access to information, and the increasing complexity of digital transactions remain major challenges in enforcing consumer rights. This community service program aims to improve public legal awareness and practical skills in protecting consumer rights through an integrated legal education approach. The program was implemented through interactive legal counseling, real-case simulations, and digital educational modules that participants could access independently. Participants included members of the community, e-commerce users, secondary school students, and vulnerable groups, including students with special needs. The results showed significant improvements in participants’ understanding of consumer rights and obligations, their ability to recognize unfair business practices, and their skills in preparing consumer complaints. The integration of local and international perspectives, particularly related to digital transactions, enhanced participants’ understanding of global consumer protection standards. Digital media also supported continuous learning and the development of a legally aware consumer community. The program demonstrates that participatory, inclusive, and practice-oriented legal education is effective in strengthening consumer protection in Indonesia.

Abstract

Early marriage remains a significant challenge to human development, affecting educational attainment, reproductive health, and human resource quality. Vocational high school students are in a transitional stage toward the workforce and therefore require an understanding of Pendewasaan Usia Perkawinan as a foundation for preparing responsible family life. This community service program aimed to strengthen students’ understanding of Pendewasaan Usia Perkawinan at SMK Negeri 1 Banjarmasin through participatory educational activities. The program was implemented in three stages: preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The implementation integrated educational sessions, case-based Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), infographic poster development, group presentations, and peer-to-peer education. Evaluation was conducted descriptively through observation, reflection, and brief interviews. Participants actively engaged in learning activities, analyzed issues related to Pendewasaan Usia Perkawinan, developed ideas collaboratively, presented discussion outcomes, and shared knowledge with peers. Reflections and interviews indicated improved understanding of Pendewasaan Usia Perkawinan as preparation for family life through physical, psychological, social, and economic readiness before marriage. This participatory approach can serve as a reference for developing educational programs on Pendewasaan Usia Perkawinan and adolescent reproductive health in vocational high schools.

Abstract

Integrated crop–livestock farming (ICLF) offers a pathway toward sustainable agriculture by closing the nutrient loop between cattle rearing and rice cultivation at the smallholder level. This community-based action research was conducted with an organic farmer group in Bintoyo Village, Padas Sub-district, Ngawi Regency, East Java, using a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach comprising four cycles: plan, act, observe, and reflect. Four interrelated main programs were implemented: (1) mentoring on beef cattle fattening management, covering breed selection, feeding schedules, sanitation routines, and first-aid disease handling; (2) processing of cattle manure and urine waste into liquid organic fertilizer based on local microorganisms (MOL) and solid compost; (3) application of the resulting organic fertilizer on irrigated rice fields; and (4) construction and installation of barn owl (Tyto alba) nest boxes as an environmentally friendly biological control of rice field rats. Researchers were embedded throughout every field stage, from the initial audit to the reflective evaluation, functioning as co-researchers alongside the farmer group rather than as external experts. Reflective evaluation indicates measurable improvement in cattle husbandry practices, an operating on-farm fertilizer production cycle, improved soil and plant vigor indicators on treated rice plots, and the early establishment of owl nest-box occupancy as part of integrated pest management. This activity validates the integration of PAR with the ICLF framework as a replicable, low-cost model of sustainable agriculture for rice–cattle smallholder communities in Indonesia.

Abstract

Coastal settlements need to support sustainable development despite constraints such as limited planting space, relatively high temperatures, humid conditions, tidal flooding, and household plastic bottle waste. Therefore, sustainable development in Tambakrejo Urban Village should integrate efficient use of limited space, environmental greening, material reuse, resource efficiency, and community participation. This community service activity aimed to provide participants with an initial understanding of vertical gardens made from used plastic bottles, hands-on experience in constructing tiered hanging vertical garden prototypes, and readiness to apply the model at home. The activity involved 18 administrators and members of the “Merah Delima” coastal and mangrove product processing group in Tambakrejo, Semarang. A Participatory Learning and Action (PLA) approach was implemented through interactive presentations, visual examples, question-and-answer sessions, group discussions, demonstrations, guided practice, evaluation, and reflection. Participants’ understanding was assessed through 12 oral questions documented in field notes and observation sheets by eight observers, while practical skills and products were assessed using observational checklists. Results showed that participants’ understanding across six topics ranged from understanding to very good understanding. Five groups produced five tiered hanging prototypes, each consisting of three to four bottles, with clean containers, adequate planting openings and drainage, relatively balanced ties, and movable arrangements. The activity achieved its objectives by improving participants’ initial understanding, practical skills in reusing plastic bottles in limited spaces, and readiness to apply the model at home to support sustainable development in coastal settlements. Future programs should include retention tests, individual skill assessments, household implementation, and post-activity monitoring.

Abstract

Anwarul Qur’an Islamic Boarding School in Adiwerna District, Tegal Regency, has several buildings used for educational activities, student dormitories, and worship. However, the school management has limited understanding and capacity regarding the Building Approval (Persetujuan Bangunan Gedung/PBG), which replaces the Building Construction Permit (IMB), and has never conducted an evaluation of the structural adequacy of its existing buildings. This condition potentially creates legal and building safety risks for occupants. This community service activity aimed to improve the management’s capacity to understand PBG procedures and provide assistance in conducting an initial evaluation of the building structure. The implementation methods included an initial building condition survey, PBG regulation socialization, training and assistance in completing administrative requirements through the Building Management Information System (SIMBG), and non-destructive testing using a HT-225 rebound hammer on structural columns based on SNI 03-4430-1997 and ASTM C805. The results showed improved understanding of PBG procedures and requirements, as well as the preparation of the necessary administrative documents. Testing at 26 column points, consisting of 13 points on the first floor and 13 points on the second floor, produced rebound numbers ranging from 25 to 38, with an average of 30.3. These results indicate relatively uniform concrete surface hardness. Overall, the activity improved administrative readiness, provided an initial overview of structural conditions, and can serve as a model for similar assistance programs in other religious educational institutions.

Abstract

The leather craft centre of Magetan Regency supplies souvenirs for the Sarangan Lake tourism area, yet most craftsmen still work with simple technology and word-of-mouth marketing. Akasia Industry, a leather belt craftsmen group in Ringinagung Village with fifteen members and eight production craftsmen, faced three priority problems: stitching that relied on household sewing machines, unstructured bookkeeping, and marketing that had not reached national and international buyers. This community service programme aimed to increase the production capacity and to widen the market reach of the partner through science and technology innovation. A participatory approach was applied in six stages: preparation, socialisation, training, technology implementation, mentoring and evaluation, and sustainability planning. The interventions covered the procurement of and training on an industrial leather sewing machine, the preparation of production standard operating procedures and quality control, mentoring on bookkeeping and cost of goods manufactured, and the development of the multilingual website akasiaindustry.com integrated with social media and marketplaces. Workshop output rose from three to five units into an average of thirty-five units per day, while the defect rate fell from 15-20 per cent to below 5 per cent. The partner now owns a fully operating industrial sewing machine, standard operating procedure documents, a simple bookkeeping system, a brand identity, and five active digital transaction channels reaching 5,761 followers on Instagram and TikTok, with the highest production content reaching 93.2 thousand views. Combining production technology with marketing digitalisation effectively strengthens the competitiveness of leather craftsmen within a sustainable tourism ecosystem.

Abstract

The evolution of digital communication offers private university lecturers opportunities to strengthen their professional identities, expand the reach of their expertise, and enhance the visibility of their academic contributions. However, social media presence is not always accompanied by the ability to manage it as a planned personal branding strategy. This community service program aims to enhance the capacity of private university lecturers to build authentic and impactful personal brands through digital communication strategies. The activity was conducted offline at Universitas Selamat Sri in Batang Regency, Central Java, involving 30 lecturers. The program employed a participatory approach comprising needs identification and mapping, collaborative action planning, training, workshops, content production practice, mentoring, and evaluation. The curriculum covered identity and expertise mapping, positioning, personal branding message formulation, digital profile optimization, academic storytelling, and content production strategies. Evaluation was conducted via pre- and post-tests, digital profile quality assessments, and documentation of participants' personal branding outputs. The program is expected to improve lecturers' understanding and skills in managing their digital professional identities, resulting in profiles and content that better align with their areas of expertise, while shifting their social media usage from merely personal or documentary purposes toward strategic, authentic, and contribution-oriented communication. Program sustainability is fostered through peer mentoring and the establishment of a digital communication learning community among the lecturers.

Abstract

School bullying is a relational issue that disrupts students' sense of safety, learning process, character development, and psychological well-being. This community service activity aims to strengthen anti-bullying literacy and foster a safe and comfortable school culture through Islamic value-based socialization at SMP IT Ar-Ridha Pantai Cermin. Held on August 5, 2026, the event was organized through a collaboration between the Islamic Education Management Study Program of Institut Jam’iyah Mahmudiyah Langkat and the school. An educative-participatory approach was implemented through preparation stages, material presentation, discussions, reinforcement of reporting procedures, and a joint commitment pledge. The topics presented covered forms of bullying, its impact on the school climate, the role of bystanders, Islamic values, and a reporting system that is prompt, confidential, and educational. Results indicate the establishment of a shared understanding that shifts the perception of bullying from harmless jokes, clarifies the active role of bystanders, and provides a clear response mechanism. Key outputs include structured educational materials, a five-step response procedure, and an anti-bullying pledge. This socialization is expected to serve as an entry point for a comprehensive school strategy involving character habituation, victim support, perpetrator rehabilitation, parental involvement, and routine evaluations.

Abstract

This community service article discusses web-based digital learning assistance conducted to improve the learning literacy of students in the Master of Islamic Religious Education Program at the Postgraduate School of Universitas Islam Zainul Hasan Genggong Probolinggo. The program was designed in response to the gap between the availability of digital learning facilities and students’ ability to access, evaluate, organize, and use online academic resources independently. The method used a participatory mentoring approach through four stages: needs analysis, training on web-based digital learning literacy, practical assistance in using learning management systems and online academic resources, and evaluation with follow-up recommendations. The activity was carried out on 10-11 Juli 2025 and involved postgraduate students with diverse professional backgrounds. The results indicate that the program strengthened students’ understanding of digital learning literacy, improved their ability to use web-based learning platforms, encouraged more critical use of scholarly online sources, and fostered independent learning habits. The program also produced a contextual assistance model that can be replicated in Islamic higher education settings. The implication of this service activity is that digital learning transformation requires not only infrastructure but also continuous mentoring, academic culture building, and integration of technology with the values and learning needs of Islamic education.

Abstract

This community service activity was carried out to support the development of a handicraft business made of feather wire in Pagar Village, Ulu Talo District, Seluma Regency. The household business has considerable market potential, but is still limited to conventional word-of-mouth marketing and has not fully implemented Islamic economic principles. The purpose of the activity is to improve the ability of business actors to utilize digital marketing, foster a creative and independent entrepreneurial spirit, and internalize the values of honesty, trust, and responsibility according to Islamic microeconomic principles. The method used is Community Based Research (CBR) by actively involving business actors starting from problem identification, counseling, assistance in creating Facebook and Shopee accounts, simple financial recording training, to evaluation of results. The target of the activity includes a fur wire craft business unit and surrounding housewives. The results of the activity showed an increase in business actors' understanding of digital marketing strategies, the formation of promotional accounts on social media and marketplaces, an improvement in financial recording skills, and the growth of motivation and confidence in entrepreneurship. These findings confirm that community-based mentoring is effective in encouraging the transformation of home-based MSMEs towards a more competitive and blessed business.
