Abstract

Small-scale palm sugar producers in Pagar Village, Ulu Talo Subdistrict, Seluma Regency, still rely on conventional marketing practices and lack structured financial record-keeping, which limits their market reach and business efficiency. This community service program aimed to strengthen the producer's understanding of Sharia-compliant marketing principles, improve product image through packaging and brand optimization, and build capacity in recording transactions using a digital financial application. The program was implemented through a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach comprising planning, implementation, evaluation, and reporting stages, targeting a palm sugar producer and family members involved in the production process in Pagar Village. Activities included socialization on Sharia marketing, logo and packaging design training, social media account setup, online and offline marketing practice, and introduction to the Tokoku financial application. Results show that the producer gained a stronger grasp of honesty and transparency as core Sharia marketing values, achieved an improved packaging appearance, expanded market reach through Facebook and Shopee, and became able to record financial transactions digitally. Remaining constraints include limited digital literacy, indicating the need for continued mentoring to ensure consistent financial record-keeping and to strengthen the long-term competitiveness of palm sugar businesses.

Abstract

Visual inspection in embroidery SMEs largely relies on workers’ experience, which may result in different interpretations of inspection points and product nonconformities. This community service program aimed to map existing inspection practices and enhance visual inspection literacy as an initial diagnostic stage prior to the development of standardized inspection procedures. The program was conducted at Setia Karya Bordir through participatory observation, process mapping, focused discussions, and visual-based learning involving nine employees. The mapping results indicated that visual inspection had been performed during and after the production process; however, terminology for nonconformities, inspection sequences, documented visual referensis, and defect recording practices had not yet been systematically structured. The assistance program resulted in a five-stage process map with corresponding visual inspection points, as well as a five-dimensional visual inspection literacy framework comprising design conformity, stitch continuity and density, motif position and geometry, surface integrity, and inter-unit consistency. Visual discussion materials and a follow-up needs map were also developed to support subsequent improvement activities. These outcomes provide a foundation for further standardization of inspection practices through the development of operational defect definitions, quality decision rules, inspection checklists, standard operating procedures, and routine inspection instruments. In addition to strengthening workers’ understanding of visual inspection, the program provides an initial basis for developing more structured quality documentation practices.

Abstract

Non-biodegradable waste such as plastic, polystyrene, and cans remains a major problem in the Pantai Kulur Ilir tourist area, Kulur Ilir Village, Central Bangka Regency, due to the lack of visual educational media explaining its impact and how long it takes to decompose, so visitor and local awareness of waste management remains low. This community service programme aims to broaden the knowledge of villagers and tourists about the effects and decomposition times of non-biodegradable waste, reduce the habit of littering, and help create a beautiful and sustainable tourist area. The activity was carried out by KKN students from Universitas Muhammadiyah Bangka Belitung through a community education method based on outreach with a qualitative descriptive participatory action model, with active community involvement and the village government, beginning with observation, planning, production, and the installation of educational signs in potential tourist areas. The results showed that the educational signs, equipped with samples of non-biodegradable waste and estimates of decomposition time, such as polystyrene that does not decompose, plastic bottles (500 years), cans (200 years), and milk cartons (20 years), successfully improved community understanding of the 3R concept (reduce, reuse, recycle) and encouraged changes in behaviour when disposing of food waste and household waste. Post-installation review can be seen in the increased understanding of tourists and local residents, although overall behavioural change still requires long-term monitoring. This programme is expected to form the basis for strengthening sustainable environmental awareness in Kulur Ilir Village, while also serving as a concrete example of the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education through students’ tangible contribution to resolving environmental problems within the community.

Abstract

The Community Service Program (Kuliah Kerja Nyata/KKN) was conducted as a form of student community service through the application of knowledge and skills to help address problems identified within the community. This KKN activity aimed to improve the reading abilities of Grade I–VI students at SDN 1 Telangkah, Telangkah Village, Katingan Hilir District, Katingan Regency, as well as to increase students’ interest and motivation in reading activities. The method used was Participatory Action Research (PAR), involving university students, school staff, students, parents, and the community in the processes of problem identification, planning, implementation, and program evaluation. Based on observations and interviews, 19 students were identified as experiencing reading difficulties, including difficulties in recognizing letters, spelling, reading fluently, and understanding reading content. To address these problems, the students implemented the CERIA Tutoring Program through a pre-test, gradual reading instruction, word and sentence reading exercises, short-text reading, and a post-test. The results showed that 8 out of 11 participants (72.7%) experienced improved scores, with the average score increasing from 69.73 to 74.36.

Abstract

The enactment of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code (National Criminal Code) marks the end of the validity of the *Wetboek van Strafrecht* (WvS) a colonial legacy that had been in force in Indonesia for over a century. With a three-year transition period following its promulgation, the National Criminal Code is set to take effect on January 2, 2026. The fundamental changes introduced by the National Criminal Code regarding legal principles, sentencing systems, and the formulation of criminal offenses require adequate public understanding to ensure effective law enforcement and prevent disparities in legal comprehension. This community service activity aims to disseminate information regarding the substance of the National Criminal Code reform to the residents of Kupang City. The activity employs a legal education method combined with a socio-legal approach, carried out through stages comprising preparation, lectures and material presentations, interactive discussions, and an evaluation of participant understanding. The material covered includes the background and urgency of the reform, new principles within the Code, the sentencing system (double-track system), new and reformulated criminal offenses, and the transition period for implementation. This activity is expected to enhance public understanding and preparedness for the enforcement of the National Criminal Code.

Abstract

Jalak Towo cassava is one of the cassava varieties commonly cultivated by the residents of Ngargoyoso Village, Ngargoyoso Subdistrict, Karanganyar Regency. Jalak Towo cassava is distinguished by its crisp texture and savory flavor when cooked. The residents of Ngargoyoso Village still process cassava using simple methods, and cassava peel waste is not utilized optimally. This issue indicates that the village’s potential has not been optimally managed, even though Jalak Towo cassava has the potential to be processed into economically valuable products. Students from the UNS Impactful Learning Grant program provided a solution to this problem by conducting a community service activity involving the KWT Putri Manunggal of Ngargoyoso Village. The community service project was carried out using a multi-stage approach, including a planning phase such as observations and interviews with partners and an implementation phase such as outreach activities, demonstration sessions, training, and mentoring. The results of the community service project show that the KWT Putri Manunggal has made progress in processing Jalak Towo cassava into several marketable products, such as mocaf flour, moist brownies, and crispy brownies. Cassava peel waste has also been optimally utilized by being processed into liquid organic fertilizer. The moist brownies and crispy brownies are marketed under the brand names Mocaf Moist and Mocaf Crunch. All activities were successfully implemented, covering the aspects of production, processing, marketing, and the environment.
