Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of fractional domino learning media on the mathematical communication skills of second-grade elementary school students. This study employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design, specifically a nonequivalent control group design. The experimental group received the treatment, while the control group did not. The sample consisted of 58 second-grade students from MIN 4 Kota. Two data collection techniques were used in this study: observation and a mathematical communication ability test. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics, followed by normality and homogeneity tests, and hypothesis testing using independent sample t-tests. The results indicated that fractional domino learning media positively affected students’ mathematical communication abilities, as evidenced by the average post-test score of 14.66 for the experimental group and 11.31 for the control group. The hypothesis test yielded a sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.001, which was smaller than the α level of 0.05, indicating a significant difference in post-test scores between the experimental and control groups. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the use of fractional dominoes enhances the mathematical communication skills of second-grade elementary school students.

Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of madrasah principal leadership in improving teacher performance at MTs Al-Azhar Teluk Sentosa, addressing issues of teacher absenteeism, mismatched subject assignments, and suboptimal teaching quality. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through observation, interviews (with 1 principal, 3 vice principals, and 3 teachers), and documentation at Jl. Besar Ajamu, Teluk Sentosa Village. Findings reveal that democratic leadership fostering collegial relationships significantly enhances teacher performance. While persistent challenges remain (including tardiness and qualification mismatches), regular training and supervision by the principal have effectively mitigated these issues. The study uniquely demonstrates how democratic leadership in rural Indonesian madrasahs creates familial work environments that improve performance despite resource constraints. Results suggest that school leaders should: (1) adopt participatory decision-making, (2) implement ongoing teacher mentoring programs, and (3) maintain consistent supervision to address performance gaps. This research provides a model for balancing authoritative guidance with collaborative leadership in Islamic educational institutions, offering actionable strategies for under-resourced settings.

The approach used is qualitative, with data collection techniques including in-depth interviews, field observations, and documentation studies. Informants include IMTAQ managers, speakers, community members, and community leaders. Data is analyzed inductively to understand the dynamics of development within the context of minority communities. The research findings indicate that IMTAQ planning is strategic and inclusive, involving various stakeholders, including religious leaders and local government officials. The programs designed include spiritual strengthening through Quranic reading activities, regular religious study sessions, and economic empowerment initiatives such as sharia-based entrepreneurship training. Program implementation is structured, sustainable, and supported by active community participation. Evaluations indicate that IMTAQ has had a positive impact on improving the quality of faith, piety, and social and moral awareness of the Muslim minority community in the region. The uniqueness of this research lies in IMTAQ’s holistic approach in integrating spiritual guidance with social and economic aspects within the minority Muslim community. These findings contribute to the development of a contextual and inclusive model of religious guidance and have practical implications for application in areas with similar conditions.

Abstract

This study examines (1) the strategic management of digital literacy for educators at SMP Negeri 3 Lempuing, (2) the process of teacher digital literacy development in the digital era, and (3) the influence of digital literacy on pedagogical competence enhancement. A qualitative case study approach was employed, with data collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation, supplemented by secondary data. Data analysis followed an interactive model, with validity ensured via triangulation (source, theory, method) and referential adequacy. Findings indicate that digital literacy strategy management adheres to the POAC framework (Planning, Organizing, Actuating, Controlling). Planning involves objective-setting, resource allocation, and success metrics; organizing focuses on HR management and government collaboration; implementation includes digital platform training, online safety education, and positive content creation; and control is maintained through monitoring and evaluation. Pedagogical competence improvement follows the I-P-O model (Input-Process-Output), where inputs (student characteristics, funding) and processes (ed-tech design, strategic management) yield outputs (student achievement, institutional recognition). The study also identifies internal impacts (family influence, school infrastructure) and external impacts (internet access, cyber risks like fraud and bullying). This research is among the first to integrate POAC strategic management and I-P-O frameworks in analyzing digital literacy’s role in pedagogical development, offering a structured approach for educational institutions navigating digital transformation. Schools should adopt structured digital literacy programs, foster government partnerships, and implement continuous monitoring to mitigate cyber risks while enhancing teacher competence. The study provides a model for digital literacy strategy management in education, highlighting its critical role in improving teaching quality and institutional readiness for digital-era challenges.

Abstract

The transformation of Islamic preaching in the digital era has given birth to a rational, dialogical, and contextual religious approach. This research aims to explain the gap that Islamic faith is often seen as dogmatic, while this study examines its presentation rationally through digital media. The object of study is the podcast “Belajar Islam Pake Logika/Learning Islam Using Logic” on Raymond Chin’s YouTube channel featuring Ustadz Felix Siauw. The research uses descriptive qualitative methods with content analysis techniques. The primary data is in the form of a transcript of a 1 hour 28 minutes podcast, analyzed through thematic coding based on the six pillars of faith, with data validity reinforced through theory and source triangulation. The results of the study show that faith in Allah is the most dominant theme (10 out of 17 quotes), presented through logical arguments, awareness of monotheism, worship, and understanding life’s tests. Other pillars of faith, such as faith in the prophets, scriptures, the Day of Judgment, and destiny (qada and qadar), are also discussed rationally and practically. Meanwhile, faith in angels is not explicitly addressed, indicating limitations in the metaphysical aspect. The novelty of this research lies in the in-depth analysis of presenting the pillars of faith rationally in digital media, which has rarely been studied before. Its practical implication is that the rational approach to da’wah can serve as a bridge between reason and revelation, while also being relevant to meet the intellectual needs of critical generations in the information era. The contribution of this research is to provide perspectives for preachers, educators, and media managers in designing content that balances rationality with the completeness of doctrinal material.

Abstract

This study examines (1) the influence of principal leadership, (2) principal work motivation, and (3) their combined effect on high school teacher performance in Babat Toman District. A quantitative approach was employed, collecting data via questionnaires from all 76 high school teachers in the district (proportional random sampling). Data were analyzed using SPSS, including normality, linearity, and homogeneity tests, followed by multiple linear regression (t-test, F-test, and r² analysis). The study revealed: (1) Principal leadership significantly improves teacher performance (t=36.886, p=0.02); (2) Work motivation similarly enhances performance (t=26.703, p=0.017); and (3) Both factors jointly exert a strong influence (F=672.870 > F-table=3.120), explaining a substantial variance in outcomes. This research uniquely quantifies the dual impact of leadership and motivation on teacher performance in a rural Indonesian context, providing empirical validation of their synergistic relationship. Schools should prioritize leadership training and motivational programs for principals, as their decisions and approaches directly shape teacher effectiveness. The study offers a replicable model for evaluating leadership-motivation dynamics in education, serving as a benchmark for policymakers and administrators aiming to optimize teacher performance through principal development.

Abstract

This research aims to develop teaching materials based on concept maps to improve the short story writing skills of fifth-grade students at MIS Ar-Rahman Tanjung Morawa, who previously faced difficulties in the use of spelling, critical thinking skills, text structure understanding, and writing interest. This type of research is Research and Development (R&D) using the ADDIE model. Data were collected through observations, interviews, questionnaires, and tests (pretest and posttest). Validation was conducted by experts in material, media, and language, followed by a practicality test involving students and teachers. The results of the validation showed a very high feasibility level, namely 90.91% (material expert), 84% (media expert), and 82.5% (language expert). The practicality test scored 86% from students and 91% from teachers. The teaching materials proved effective in improving short story writing skills and students’ learning motivation. The development of teaching materials using a combination of mind mapping and interactive visual design facilitates students in understanding story structure, organizing ideas, and writing texts creatively. Teachers can use these teaching materials as engaging learning media that are easy to adapt to various content contexts, while schools can utilize them to encourage more interactive and student-centered writing learning. This research enriches the literature on the application of mind mapping in narrative writing education at the elementary school level and provides empirical evidence that a conceptual visual approach can enhance students’ literacy skills.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation processes, as well as the supporting and inhibiting factors in strengthening character education through the Scout and Rebana extracurricular activities at SDN 1 Banyuasin III. The study employed a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis, which were then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that character education strengthening has been systematically integrated into both extracurricular activities. In the Scout activities, the characters of discipline, responsibility, and cooperation are the primary focus, while in Rebana, the values of religiosity, tolerance, and solidarity are emphasized. Activity planning is carried out through coordination meetings with the instructor and school officials, activities are implemented according to a pre-agreed routine schedule, and supervision is carried out directly by the instructor. Evaluations are conducted periodically to assess the achievement of character goals. Supporting factors include full support from the principal, the availability of competent instructors, and student enthusiasm. Inhibiting factors include limited infrastructure and scheduling conflicts with other activities. This study concludes that the extracurricular activities of Scouting and Rebana play a strategic role in shaping student character aligned with the Pancasila Student Profile. The implications of this research are the need to optimize facilities, increase the capacity of instructors, and foster synergy between schools, parents, and the community to strengthen the implementation of character education in elementary schools.

Abstract

Schools play a strategic role in shaping character and instilling values of tolerance in the younger generation. However, practices of racism are still found in educational environments, both in the form of hate speech, stereotypical jokes, and the exclusion of certain groups. This study aims to prevent racist behavior at MAN 2 Labuhanbatu Utara through group guidance services using the Mau’izatul Hasanah approach, a method of gentle, persuasive advice based on Islamic values, particularly brotherhood, tolerance, and justice. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach with purposive sampling techniques targeting guidance counselors and students who exhibit tendencies of racist behavior. Data were collected through observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s model. The research results show a significant reduction in discriminatory behavior post-intervention, reflected in the increase of students’ tolerance scores from an average of 55% to 85%. This change includes the avoidance of racist jokes, increased inter-ethnic interactions, and students’ initiatives to reprimand discriminatory behavior. These findings fill a research gap that previously rarely integrated group guidance with an explicit Islamic religious approach. Mau’izatul Hasanah proves to be effective not only in enhancing cognitive awareness but also in forming sustainable inclusive behavior, thus it can serve as a model for character building in multi-ethnic schools.
