Abstract

Numeracy is a fundamental skill in elementary mathematics education, yet conventional teaching methods often fail to connect abstract concepts with students’ lived experiences. This study was motivated by the need for more contextual and meaningful learning models, particularly through the integration of local cultural heritage. The research aimed to: (1) determine whether there is a significant difference in numeracy skills between fourth-grade students at SD Swasta Muhammadiyah 2 Padangsidimpuan who received geometry instruction based on Rumah Adat Batak (Rumah Bolon) and those who received conventional instruction, and (2) examine the improvement in students’ numeracy skills after participating in the culturally integrated learning. A quasi-experimental method was employed using a pretest-posttest control group design. The sample consisted of 64 students divided into an experimental class and a control class. A multiple-choice numeracy test was used as the research instrument. Data were analyzed using a t-test and N-Gain calculation. The results revealed a significant difference between the two groups (t = 2.138; p = 0.036 < 0.05), with the experimental group achieving higher scores. The average N-Gain score of 0.42 indicated a moderate improvement in numeracy skills. These findings suggest that geometry instruction incorporating Rumah Bolon effectively enhances students’ numeracy in a more meaningful way. The study implies that integrating local cultural contexts into mathematics curricula can strengthen conceptual understanding and support national numeracy goals. This approach offers a promising pathway for culturally responsive pedagogy in Indonesian elementary education.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the impact of the Time Token learning model on the speaking skills of fourth-grade students at MIN 12 Medan. Speaking skills are one of the essential competencies in Indonesian language learning, requiring structured practice and appropriate teaching methods. This research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design of the nonequivalent control group type. The sample consisted of 62 students, divided into two groups: the experimental group using the Time Token model and the control group using conventional learning methods. The research instrument was a speaking skills test assessed based on six aspects: accuracy of pronunciation, intonation, articulation, diction, word structure order, and fluency. Data analysis included normality testing, homogeneity testing, and hypothesis testing using an independent sample t-test. The results showed that the data were normally distributed and homogeneous, and the hypothesis test yielded a significance value of 0.001 < 0.05, indicating a significant difference between the two groups. The average posttest score of the experimental group was 27.06, higher than that of the control group, which was 22.06. These findings demonstrate that the Time Token model is efficacious in improving students’ speaking skills. Therefore, Time Token can be applied as an innovative and interactive learning strategy to develop students’ oral communication abilities.

Abstract

Essay writing skills are one of the fundamental competencies in basic education, which, in reality, remains a challenge for many students. The phenomenon of students' low ability to express ideas in a structured manner is the main background of this research. The purpose of this research is to quantitatively test the effectiveness of the use of Pop-Up Book learning media as an intervention to improve essay writing skills in grade V students at MIS AL-WASHLIYAH Sei Mencirim. This study employed a quasi-experimental method with a non-equivalent control group design, involving a total of 50 students. The participants were divided into an experimental group (n = 25) that received treatment with a Pop-Up Book and a control group (n = 25) that used conventional learning methods. Data were collected through pre-tests and post-tests, and then analyzed using an independent sample t-test with SPSS. The study's essential findings reveal a statistically significant increase in average scores in the experimental group, from 29.88 (pre-test) to 52.52 (post-test), which is higher than the increase in the control group, from 26.96 to 45.72. The results of the t-test (p < 0.001) confirmed a significant difference between the two groups. This study suggests that the Pop-Up Book medium not only serves as an attractive visual aid but is also an effective pedagogical tool for stimulating imagination, organizing ideas, and systematically improving students' narrative writing skills, making it a viable option for adoption as an innovative learning strategy in elementary schools.

Abstract

The issue of language skills in Indonesian language learning in schools, particularly at the elementary level, remains prevalent. In reading skills, many students still struggle with pronouncing words fluently. Regarding writing skills, many students struggle to express their thoughts or ideas in writing due to a lack of inspiration. Furthermore, in listening skills, one prominent problem is that students often lack focus during lessons, resulting in their inability to answer questions posed to them. As for speaking skills, students usually face difficulties in selecting appropriate words, structuring sentences grammatically, and exhibiting confidence. Given the importance of language skills in daily life, effective strategies are needed to address these challenges faced by students. The study employed the ADDIE development model, which encompasses five phases: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Data collection was carried out through expert validation sheets to assess media feasibility, as well as teacher and student questionnaires administered during the limited trial phase of the media. Validation by subject matter experts yielded an average score of 94%, classified as “highly feasible,” while validation by media experts resulted in an average score of 95%, also categorized as “highly feasible.” Furthermore, the media received highly positive responses, with average scores of 95% from teachers and 96% from students. These findings suggest that digital flashcards are both well-received and effective, positioning them as a relevant and supportive instructional medium in the context of contemporary digital education.

Abstract

. Students' sense of comfort at school is the foundation for achieving well-being within the school environment. This well-being encompasses various aspects of students' lives, including physical, emotional, social, and personal dimensions. When a school fails to foster such well-being, it can increase the risk of bullying behaviors among students. Therefore, this study aims to analyze school well-being among children and adolescents, as well as to assessing strategies for bullying preventing bullying in Madrasahs. This research employed a qualitative method with an indigenous psychology approach. Data were collected in two stages: survey with open ended questionnaire and interviews. The survey involved 100 elementary-level (MI) students and 61 junior high-level (MTs) students. Interviews were conducted with school principals and counseling teachers. The results revealed that school well-being among both children and adolescents consists of four main aspects: having, loving, being, and health. However, differences emerged in the relational emphasis: for children, well-being strongly related to interactions with peers, teachers, and parents, while for adolescents, peer relationships were the dominant factor. The bullying prevention strategy implemented by the madrasah involves innovative programs for self-development, including the provision of guidance and counseling services, the establishment of routine school-wide activities, and the adequate provision of facilities. These three components constitute aspects of school well-being and play an effective role in regulating students’ behavior.

Abstract

The low level of scientific literacy among elementary school students in Indonesia underscores the need for learning innovations that integrate scientific knowledge with religious contexts relevant to students’ lives. In Islamic Religious Education (IRE) lessons, verses about nature have great potential to develop scientific thinking skills, but this potential has not been fully utilized. This study aims to examine how the scientific interpretation approach can strengthen elementary school students' scientific literacy by systematically linking Qur’anic verses to natural phenomena. The study used a qualitative case study design across four elementary schools in Pulang Pisau Regency. Data were collected through learning observations, in-depth interviews with teachers and students, and the analysis of documents, including lesson plans and learning outcomes. The analysis was conducted using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña with triangulation of sources and techniques to ensure data validity. The results of the study indicate that the scientific interpretation approach improves students’ ability to ask scientific questions, explain evidence-based phenomena, and connect verses about nature with the scientific processes they observe. Exploratory activities recorded the highest average engagement rate of 71%, while the ability to connect verses with phenomena reached 55.5%. In addition to improving cognitive skills, this approach also strengthens students’ scientific and religious attitudes, such as accuracy, curiosity, and awareness that natural phenomena are signs of God’s power. This study concludes that scientific interpretation is a potential approach to improve scientific literacy while building students’ scientific spirituality. However, the success of its implementation still depends on teacher competence and the availability of adequate experimental media. These findings have important implications for curriculum development and for teacher training in Islamic education.

Abstract

Drug abuse is a multidimensional phenomenon that produces extensive impacts on health, psychological well-being, and social integration. Conventional rehabilitation models often struggle to provide long-term, holistic environments that support sustained recovery. This study explores pesantren-based rehabilitation as an alternative recovery ecosystem by examining the rehabilitation process for drug abuse victims at Pondok Pesantren Al-Islamy, Kulon Progo, Yogyakarta. Employing a qualitative intrinsic case study Design, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis involving rehabilitated students, kyais, teachers, and rehabilitation companions. Data were analyzed using an interactive qualitative study model within a multidisciplinary theoretical framework integrating ecological, psychological, educational, sociological, and neurobiological perspectives. The findings reveal that pesantren-based rehabilitation operates as a structured socio-religious ecosystem that facilitates behavioral change, cognitive and emotional transformation, spiritual development, and identity reconstruction. Key mechanisms include strict daily routines, collective religious practices, social modeling, and community-based learning, which together support self-regulation and reduce relapse risk. The pesantren environment fosters the development of recovery capital by providing strong social support, spiritual meaning, and communal belonging, enabling rehabilitated individuals to transition from stigmatized identities as drug users to socially legitimate identities as santri. However, the study also identifies challenges related to post-rehabilitation reintegration, highlighting the need for sustained support beyond the pesantren setting. This study concludes that pesantren-based rehabilitation represents an effective, culturally grounded, and holistic model for long-term addiction recovery. By integrating educational structure, spiritual guidance, and community support, pesantren function as transformative recovery ecosystems that offer significant implications for addiction rehabilitation policy and practice in Indonesia.

Abstract

. Understanding science concepts among junior high school students is a crucial aspect because science requires the ability to reason, make connections, and apply scientific concepts in everyday life. However, low levels of conceptual understanding are still frequently found, partly due to the dominance of conventional teaching methods and the limited use of technology. Information and Communication Technology (ICT)–based multimedia is considered to have the potential to improve the quality of learning through visual, audio, and interactive presentations of material. This study aims to analyze the effect of implementing ICT-based multimedia in science learning on students’ conceptual understanding. The study employed a quasi-experimental method with a one-group pretest–posttest design. The research subjects were ninth-grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Gorontalo, consisting of two classes (Class IX C = 21 students; Class IX D = 22 students), selected using saturated sampling (N = 43). The research instrument was an essay test of conceptual understanding based on the indicators of interpreting, exemplifying, classifying, summarizing, inferring, comparing, and explaining. Data were analyzed using the Kolmogorov–Smirnov normality test, Levene’s homogeneity test, and hypothesis testing with a One-Sample t-Test at a significance level of 0.05. The results showed that the mean scores increased from pretest to posttest in both classes (57.54 to 88.10; 55.78 to 86.74). The One-Sample t-Test indicated that the posttest scores were significantly higher than the minimum mastery criterion (KKM) of 75 (Sig. = 0.000). These findings imply that ICT-based multimedia is effective as a science learning strategy to strengthen students’ conceptual understanding at the junior high school level.

Abstract

Ventriloquism-based instructional innovation introduces a performative dialogic medium that merges cognitive, affective, moral, and social dimensions of learning into a unified interactive experience. By positioning the puppet as a “dialogue partner,” the approach creates psychologically safe communication spaces, reduces speaking anxiety, and transforms abstract concepts into personified narratives. This qualitative field study examines the pedagogical role of ventriloquism-based instruction in strengthening classroom engagement and value internalization in secondary-level Islamic Education (PAI). Using classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis, the study explores how puppetry mediates teacher–student interaction and shapes students’ learning experiences. The findings reveal that ventriloquism enhances behavioral, emotional, and cognitive engagement by reducing affective barriers, fostering dialogic participation, and creating an emotionally safe learning environment. The puppet functions not merely as an entertaining medium but also as an instructional mediator that builds students’ confidence to speak, models polite and ethical questioning, and supports empathetic communication aligned with prophetic pedagogical values (adab al-hiwār). The results align with multidimensional engagement theory, social learning and self-efficacy development, sociocultural mediation within the Zone of Proximal Development, multimedia learning principles, and embodied cognition perspectives. This theoretical convergence positions ventriloquism as an integrated pedagogical strategy rather than a peripheral creative technique. The study contributes to the field by framing ventriloquism as a low-cost, teacher-driven instructional innovation that harmonizes creative performative media with Islamic educational values. Although limited to a single case study, the findings offer a foundation for future comparative, longitudinal, and mixed-method research on creative pedagogies in value-based education.
