Focus and Scope Focus Room of Civil Society Development (RCSD) is a community service-oriented journal that focuses on advancing theories, research, and practices in community participation and empowerment. The journal explores innovative approaches to fostering active participation of communities in development initiatives, integrating science and technology to create sustainable and resilient societies. RCSD encourages submissions that bridge the gap between theory and practice, emphasizing collaborative efforts across various fields to enhance community participation and empowerment. Scope The term "community participation" in RCSD refers to activities that involve community involvement in decision-making, capacity building, and empowerment to address societal challenges. The journal welcomes studies and innovations from various fields, including but not limited to Economy, Education, Health, Environment and Engineering. Economy This scope includes research and initiatives that promote economic development and empower communities to actively participate in strengthening their economic resilience. Topics may include: Community-led development of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs); Participatory economic innovation for local empowerment; Capacity-building programs for economic resilience; Community-driven creative and sustainable product development. Education This scope covers studies and programs that enhance educational theories, models, and practices to foster active community participation in knowledge and skill development. It includes formal, informal, and community-based educational approaches. Health This scope emphasizes research and initiatives aimed at promoting community participation in improving health and well-being. Abstract

Demam Berdarah Dengue (DBD) merupakan salah satu penyakit endemis yang masih menjadi tantangan utama kesehatan masyarakat di Indonesia. Rendahnya kesadaran dan pemahaman masyarakat tentang langkah preventif, seperti Pemberantasan Sarang Nyamuk (PSN) 3M Plus, menjadi salah satu penyebab tingginya angka kejadian DBD. Pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan kesadaran masyarakat desa Danaraja, Banjarnegara tentang pencegahan DBD melalui pendekatan promosi kesehatan berbasis komunitas. Pendekatan intervensi edukasi melibatkan 30 peserta di Apotek Danaraja. Media leaflet dan ceramah interaktif digunakan sebagai alat edukasi utama. Hasil menunjukkan terdapat peningkatan pemahaman masyarakat setelah kegiatan promosi kesehatan dan peserta berkenan menerapkan praktik PSN 3M Plus. Hal ini menegaskan pentingnya pendekatan berbasis komunitas yang inovatif dalam meningkatkan kesadaran kolektif masyarakat terhadap pencegahan DBD. Sebagai rekomendasi, keterlibatan kader kesehatan lokal dan pelaksanaan program edukasi berkelanjutan sangat diperlukan untuk memastikan keberlanjutan dampak intervensi. Pengabdian ini memberikan kontribusi signifikan dalam mengembangkan model promosi kesehatan yang dapat direplikasi di wilayah lain dengan risiko serupa.

Abstract

Limbah cair dari industri batik, terutama yang mengandung bahan kimia berbahaya seperti pewarna sintetik dan logam berat, menjadi masalah lingkungan yang signifikan di berbagai wilayah industri batik, termasuk Cilacap. Penelitian ini mengeksplorasi penerapan teknologi elektrokoagulasi sebagai metode pengolahan limbah batik, dengan fokus pada optimasi proses dan integrasi sistem filtrasi-adsorpsi. Proses elektrokoagulasi terbukti efektif dalam menurunkan parameter kualitas air, seperti BOD, COD, TSS, dan konsentrasi logam berat, seperti kromium, yang pada akhirnya memenuhi standar baku mutu yang ditetapkan oleh regulasi lingkungan (PERDA No. 5 Tahun 2012 Provinsi Jawa Tengah). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan penurunan signifikan pada BOD, COD, TSS, dan kromium, dengan penerapan sistem filtrasi-adsorpsi lebih lanjut meningkatkan efektivitas pengolahan. Penelitian ini memberikan kontribusi ilmiah yang signifikan dalam menawarkan solusi pengolahan limbah yang ramah lingkungan dan berkelanjutan untuk industri batik, dengan potensi adopsi yang lebih luas di tingkat global. Teknologi ini tidak hanya mengurangi dampak negatif limbah terhadap lingkungan tetapi juga memungkinkan limbah batik untuk diproses kembali menjadi produk berguna, seperti malam (candle wax). Temuan ini menunjukkan potensi penerapan teknologi elektrokoagulasi dan filtrasi-adsorpsi sebagai solusi inovatif untuk pengelolaan limbah industri batik secara global.

Abstract

Effective cross-cultural communication is essential in multicultural environments, particularly in regions with high international engagement like Bali. This study explores the integration of the Tat Twam Asi philosophical principle in language education to enhance cultural awareness among German students in an international language program. Tat Twam Asi, meaning "You are me, and I am you," emphasizes empathy and social harmony, making it relevant for understanding communication norms in Balinese culture. This qualitative research was conducted at Institut Desain dan Bisnis Bali, involving 18 German students. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and document analysis, focusing on the use of German swear words in cross-cultural interactions. The findings indicate that integrating Tat Twam Asi in language education significantly improves students’ sensitivity to cultural norms, reducing the use of offensive expressions and fostering awareness of appropriate language use in Balinese society. Beyond academic implications, this approach is also relevant to the tourism and service industries, where effective communication plays a crucial role in fostering positive interactions between locals and international visitors. This study suggests that embedding cultural values in community-based language education can strengthen intercultural relationships and support sustainable social development. Future research should explore the broader application of this approach in training programs that promote cultural sensitivity in various professional sectors.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) on improving speaking comprehension among 23 interior design students at Institut Desain dan Bisnis Bali (IDB Bali). Using a Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach based on Kemmis and McTaggart’s model, students participated in two learning cycles, where they engaged in online speaking tasks submitted via Google Drive. Speaking performance was evaluated across five key indicators: fluency, pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, and comprehension. The results indicate a 3.3% improvement in speaking comprehension from Cycle 1 to Cycle 2, with fluency and pronunciation showing the most significant gains. These findings confirm that TBLT, combined with digital submission methods, enhances students' ability to communicate effectively in professional settings. Beyond academic outcomes, this study highlights the potential of TBLT as a tool for community-based training, particularly in supporting local creative industries. By equipping students with effective communication skills, this approach can improve client interactions, business negotiations, and cross-cultural collaborations in interior design and related fields. Future research should explore the long-term impact of TBLT and its integration into industry-driven language training programs.

Abstract

Perkembangan teknologi informasi telah mendorong peningkatan penggunaan media sosial di kalangan remaja, yang membawa dampak positif sekaligus tantangan baru terhadap perkembangan sosial dan emosional mereka. Penyuluhan literasi digital ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kesadaran siswa SMK Multi Mekanik Masmur tentang penggunaan media sosial secara bijak, aman, dan bertanggung jawab. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan melalui pendekatan partisipatif yang melibatkan presentasi interaktif, diskusi, quiz, dan mini games. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa siswa sangat antusias mengikuti penyuluhan dan menunjukkan peningkatan pemahaman terhadap isu-isu literasi digital, seperti privasi daring, risiko cyberbullying, dan pentingnya etika dalam bermedia sosial. Kesimpulan dari kegiatan ini adalah perlunya program literasi digital berkelanjutan yang melibatkan kolaborasi antara sekolah, orang tua, dan komunitas, guna membentuk generasi muda yang cerdas digital dan beretika.

Abstract

Pemasaran pendidikan tinggi mengalami perubahan signifikan dengan berkembangnya teknologi digital, yang mendorong perguruan tinggi untuk mengadopsi strategi Hybrid Marketing, yaitu kombinasi pemasaran daring (online) dan luring (offline) guna meningkatkan efektivitas sosialisasi dan daya tarik calon mahasiswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi efektivitas strategi Hybrid Marketing dalam sosialisasi Program Studi Manajemen Universitas Muhammadiyah Buton. Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi untuk menganalisis dampak pemasaran digital melalui media sosial serta kunjungan langsung ke sekolah-sekolah. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa promosi digital melalui media sosial, seperti Instagram dan Facebook, efektif dalam meningkatkan keterlibatan calon mahasiswa melalui konten interaktif, tetapi belum sepenuhnya optimal dalam mengonversi minat menjadi pendaftaran. Sebaliknya, kunjungan langsung memiliki dampak lebih kuat dalam membangun kepercayaan dan meningkatkan keputusan pendaftaran, dengan kenaikan minat hingga 30% setelah kegiatan sosialisasi luring. Tantangan utama yang dihadapi mencakup terbatasnya cakupan audiens dalam promosi luring, kurangnya analisis metrik digital dalam kampanye daring, serta perbedaan akses informasi di kalangan calon mahasiswa. Oleh karena itu, integrasi strategi pemasaran digital berbasis data dan pendekatan personal melalui interaksi langsung menjadi solusi optimal dalam menarik lebih banyak mahasiswa baru secara efektif.

Abstract

Prevalensi Penyakit Tidak Menular (PTM) di Indonesia terus meningkat akibat perubahan gaya hidup dan urbanisasi. PTM tidak hanya menyerang usia lanjut, tetapi juga dapat terjadi pada usia muda. Pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk mendukung implementasi skrining PTM pada kelompok remaja Karang Taruna Tunas Harapan guna meningkatkan kesadaran akan pentingnya kesehatan sejak dini. Skrining dilakukan terhadap 24 peserta berusia 19–33 tahun menggunakan metode pengukuran antropometri (tinggi badan, berat badan, lingkar lengan atas), tekanan darah, kadar hemoglobin, serta kadar gula darah sewaktu dengan alat Easy Touch GCU. Hasil skrining menunjukkan bahwa 29,2% peserta memiliki status gizi kurang, 12,5% obesitas, 6,7% mengalami anemia, 11,1% terindikasi prediabetik, dan 8,4% mengalami hipertensi tingkat 1. Tindak lanjut dilakukan melalui edukasi kesehatan mengenai PTM, anemia, serta pengaturan pola makan dan gaya hidup. Tablet tambah darah diberikan kepada remaja putri sebagai langkah pencegahan anemia. Diperlukan dukungan dari pemerintah desa dan Karang Taruna dalam mengoptimalkan posyandu remaja agar kegiatan ini berkelanjutan. Program ini dapat menjadi model dalam deteksi dini PTM berbasis komunitas untuk meningkatkan kesehatan remaja secara berkelanjutan.

Abstract

Maintaining oral hygiene from an early age is essential to prevent dental caries and gum diseases. However, many preschool children lack the knowledge and proper technique to brush their teeth effectively. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a structured tooth brushing training program at TK Kristen Anugerah Jakarta. Utilizing a participatory descriptive method, the program integrated interactive discussions, audiovisual demonstrations, and supervised practice sessions. A total of [jumlah peserta, jika tersedia] children participated in pre- and post-training assessments to measure improvements in their brushing habits. The findings showed significant gains: understanding the importance of brushing increased from 40% to 85%, brushing frequency improved from 20% to 65%, and correct brushing technique rose from 30% to 75%. These results suggest that school-based interactive training can positively influence children’s dental hygiene behavior. This study recommends incorporating such programs into early childhood education curricula and emphasizes the importance of parental involvement for sustaining long-term oral health practices.

Abstract

This program was conducted at the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Halu Oleo University, to address challenges in scientific writing, particularly in reference management, academic ethics, and citation formatting. Students often struggled with these issues, hindering their ability to write quality academic papers. The program aimed to equip students with skills to organize references, compile bibliographies, and apply citation formats using Mendeley. The program’s success was reflected in a 40% improvement in reference management skills, a 45% increase in Mendeley usage, and a 35% improvement in understanding academic ethics. Additionally, students’ ability to correctly format citations and compile bibliographies improved by 45%. Final-year students showed substantial progress, enhancing their academic writing capabilities. These results highlight the importance of integrating Mendeley training into the curriculum, and it is recommended that such training be regularly incorporated into research methodology courses to foster long-term academic success.

Abstract

Pendidikan memiliki peran penting dalam membentuk kualitas sumber daya manusia serta membimbing siswa dalam meraih cita-cita di masa depan. Namun, masih banyak siswa yang belum memiliki kejelasan terhadap cita-cita mereka, sehingga berdampak pada rendahnya motivasi belajar. Program pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan motivasi siswa SDN Kepatihan 06 Jember melalui kegiatan edukatif menggunakan metode "Pohon Cita-Cita." Program dilaksanakan selama satu hari menggunakan metode ceramah, simulasi, serta drill and practice. Siswa diminta menuliskan cita-cita mereka pada kertas berbentuk daun dan menempelkannya pada pohon cita-cita sebagai bentuk visualisasi tujuan hidup. Kegiatan ini juga dilengkapi dengan diskusi kelompok dan presentasi untuk membantu siswa merancang langkah-langkah konkret dalam mencapai cita-cita mereka. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan kesadaran siswa terhadap tujuan hidup serta meningkatnya antusiasme dan kepercayaan diri dalam belajar. Guru juga mengamati adanya perubahan positif dalam keterlibatan siswa selama proses pembelajaran berlangsung. Program ini terbukti efektif dalam membangun motivasi sejak dini, serta menciptakan lingkungan belajar yang suportif dan interaktif. Kegiatan ini juga menanamkan pentingnya merencanakan masa depan melalui langkah-langkah sederhana namun terarah.
