Abstract

Advances in digital technology have transformed the way students acquire, process, and understand information during the learning process. Easy access to information via the internet, social media, and digital platforms benefits academic activities but has also given rise to the “popcorn brain” phenomenon a condition in which individuals become accustomed to receiving rapid information stimuli, leading to a decline in focus and the ability to think deeply. This phenomenon poses a challenge in history education, which demands skills in analysis, interpretation, source criticism, and evidence-based argumentation. This study aims to analyze the impact of the “popcorn brain” phenomenon on students’ thinking patterns and to examine the interpretations and responses of students and lecturers to this phenomenon in the History Education Study Program, Faculty of Social Sciences, Gorontalo State University. The study employed a qualitative descriptive approach using the case study method. The informants consisted of two lecturers and eight sixth-semester students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, then analyzed using data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing with triangulation. Research findings indicate that “popcorn brain” affects students’ thinking patterns through a decline in the habit of in-depth reading, an increase in the consumption of instant information, a decline in concentration, and a weakening of critical thinking skills. However, strong digital literacy, primary-source-based learning, discussions, and self-regulation can minimize these effects and strengthen students’ historical thinking skills.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the trends and patterns of Artificial Intelligence (AI) utilization in the Science Learning Development course among pre-service elementary school teachers at Universitas Jambi. This study employed a mixed-methods approach with a convergent parallel design. Data were collected through an online semi-structured questionnaire distributed to students. The findings indicate a high rate of AI adoption, with the majority of students intensively relying on large language model (LLM) platforms, although their interaction durations were relatively short. AI was predominantly utilized as a cognitive scaffold to simplify complex scientific concepts and formulate innovative practicum ideas. Regarding critical thinking, students demonstrated good scientific literacy awareness, as evidenced by their habit of cross-verifying AI-generated outputs with primary scientific literature. These findings indicate that AI serves as a positive catalyst for academic efficiency and the expansion of pedagogical ideas, while simultaneously posing challenges related to potential technological dependency. Therefore, ethical AI integration and the reinforcement of engagement with primary scientific sources are important to preserve the depth of analytical thinking among pre-service teachers. The appropriate use of AI should be accompanied by critical evaluation and verification of information to ensure that its utilization supports rather than replaces students’ analytical learning processes.

Abstract

Homesickness is a common psychological challenge among students who leave their home regions to pursue higher education. Separation from family, unfamiliar social environments, and adaptation demands may evoke loneliness, emotional distress, and persistent longing for home. This study aimed to explore how migrant students experience and make meaning of video calls as a way of coping with homesickness. A qualitative phenomenological design was used to obtain an in-depth understanding of participants' lived experiences. Four migrant students studying in Bekasi participated in the study; in the results section, they were reported as two primary participants and two supporting participants. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and observation and analyzed using thematic analysis. Three themes emerged: difficulties in social adaptation, emotional coping, and relationship patterns. Video calls were experienced as a medium for maintaining emotional closeness with family, obtaining emotional support, reducing loneliness, and regulating emotions during adaptation to the new environment. Family remained a salient source of emotional security, while video calls enabled participants to sustain meaningful connections despite geographical separation. These findings suggest that synchronous digital communication can function as a contextual psychosocial resource for migrant students and may inform higher education initiatives that support students' psychological well-being.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of using Student Worksheets (LKS) through the reading guide method on the literal and inferential reading comprehension skills of fifth-grade elementary school students. This study employed a quantitative approach using a Quasi-Experimental Design with a Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The sample consisted of 25 students, including 14 students in the experimental class and 11 students in the control class. Data were collected through tests in the form of pretest and posttest, observation, and documentation. The data were analyzed using normality tests, homogeneity tests, paired sample t-test, and independent sample t-test with the assistance of SPSS version 26. The results showed that the average reading comprehension score in the experimental class increased from 64.286 in the pretest to 89.050 in the posttest. The paired sample t-test results showed a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating a significant difference between students’ reading comprehension skills before and after learning using LKS through the reading guide method. The independent sample t-test also showed a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating a significant difference between the experimental and control classes. Therefore, the use of LKS through the reading guide method was effective in improving the literal and inferential reading comprehension skills of fifth-grade elementary school students.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the phenomenon of cognitive dissonance in students of SDK Kolimasang, where there is a gap between the Christian values taught and the real behavior of students as seen from the behavior of lack of respect for teachers, indiscipline, and disrespect for friends. This shows that although the implementation of the independent curriculum has begun, its effectiveness still needs to be strengthened, both in terms of planning, implementation, and evaluation of learning in order to realize the goals of religious education that form Christian character comprehensively. The purpose of this study was to analyze the implementation of the Independent Curriculum in PAK learning at SDK Kolimasang. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method. This research was conducted at SDK Kolimasang, involving 8 research subjects consisting of PAK teachers, principals, and students. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data shows that the implementation of the independent curriculum in PAK learning has not been fully effective in overcoming cognitive dissonance between the Christian values taught and the real behavior of students. Thus, it is necessary to strengthen the pedagogical competence of teachers in designing and implementing innovative, contextual and holistic learning strategies to ensure the internalization of Christian values more effectively and sustainably in the lives of students. Supporting factors consisting of teacher commitment and inhibiting factors, namely Learning Methods and Lack of training.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of constitutional rights awareness and a conducive work environment on day care givers' job satisfaction. A quantitative correlational research method was employed, involving 97 day care givers selected through purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression. Validity tests showed all instrument items were valid (r-count > 0.199), and reliability tests indicated high reliability for all variables (Cronbach's Alpha > 0.892). Classical assumptions, including normality (sig. 0.200), multicollinearity (Tolerance > 0.821; VIF < 1.218), and heteroscedasticity (sig. > 0.185), were met. Regression analysis results revealed that constitutional rights awareness and a conducive work environment simultaneously had a significant impact on job satisfaction (F=30.250; p<0.001), with an R-Square of 0.616, indicating that 61.6% of the variance in job satisfaction was explained by these two variables. Partially, constitutional rights awareness (β=0.450; p<0.001) and a conducive work environment (β=0.380; p<0.001) each positively and significantly affected job satisfaction. The relative contribution of constitutional rights awareness (standardized Beta 0.435) was slightly stronger than that of a conducive work environment (standardized Beta 0.390). This study expands understanding of how the protection of fundamental rights and supportive working conditions interact to shape job satisfaction in the childcare sector, and points to the value of constitutional rights education and better work environments for caregivers' well-being.

Abstract

Low-income households in dense urban districts such as East Jakarta face a persistent double burden: recurring food-price inflation and unequal access to affordable staples, even as the local government channels a substantial budget into a subsidized food program without a systematic implementation review. This article investigates how far that program, administered by the Sub-Department of Food Security, Marine Affairs, and Agriculture (Sudin KPKP) pursuant to Jakarta Gubernatorial Regulation No. 28 of 2022, is actually realized on the ground. Using a descriptive qualitative design, the study examines six implementation dimensions drawn from Knill and Tosun (2020): instrument choice, policy design, oversight, institutional arrangement, administrative capacity, and social acceptance, through in-depth interviews with two Sudin KPKP officials and seven beneficiaries, complemented by document review. Results show that price subsidies channeled through partner regional-owned enterprises meaningfully reduced food prices, though sustainability depends heavily on those enterprises' operational capacity. Policy design still leaves gaps in target-data accuracy, complaint channels, and long-term budget certainty; oversight remains administratively compliant but stops short of measuring actual impact; and administrative capacity emerges as the weakest link, constrained by understaffing, inadequate storage facilities, and manual record-keeping. Public acceptance of the program, meanwhile, is broadly favorable, although it varies unevenly across sub-districts. The article recommends that strengthening the administrative capacity of Sudin KPKP East Jakarta be treated as the top priority for future policy improvement.
